I don't know if it's true, but did Merula just try to sound us out? But it's not possible since we aren't supposed to attend this lunch in the first place. Did Merula just make up the questions on the spot (casually) or she has factored this when asking Liz to the lunch? About the attendees, Ismelda I could understand since she and Merula are friends, but Merula isn't close to both Liz and Jae. Especially, if your MC is dating Jae. It's definitely weird because instead of Jae, it's Liz who's extending the invitation to you.

Well, Pepper's family raises Crups, and Liz loves all magical creatures so I can understand inviting her even if Merula doesn't know her that well. I'm still not sure about Jae, though,

@cheri-gh6jc Wouldn't inviting Barnaby still make more sense? She is living in Barnaby's house, contrary to Liz, Barnaby doesn't harbor any kind of distaste toward Merula at all and of course he is more amicable to Merula. On top of that, Barnaby loves all kinds of magical creatures and works alongside them everyday (he literally works in the Ministry alongside Merula, Pepper and MC). He fits the criteria a lot compared to Liz.
