I think it would of been better with some really great veneer instead of the end grain wood, which I feel looks clunky and clumsy and not in keeping with the more delicate design of the piece

Please take care of that Identity Card. It is a tangible connection to a world beyond our comprehension. A remnant of what Britain was like for six frightening years. Both my parents were kids during the war. I have both of their Identity Cards framed and mounted and on VE day my mum was given a material Union Jack flag about 20x15 inches. Only last year did I come across it. It's incredibly frayed and fragile, but I had it carefully framed and mounted in honour of my mum but also everyone who came through the horror of WW2 and also those who gave their lives, so that today, you can restore furniture, and I can watch you on YT.

loose or peeling veneer is not beyond repair. it's peeled off and replaced, as you demonstrated in your video. In order for something to be beyond repair, the piece has to too far gone, and even that doesn't make it beyond repair.Furniture repair/upcycling/ restoration is all about skill. the more skills you have. the more you learn is the more you can do.

Replacing something isn't the same as repairing it, the veneer was beyond repair (for me) so I replaced it

It’s not your style it seems but, it’s his artwork and he deserves respect for his effort and hard work. It was more of a transformation instead of a restoration. Thank you for your constructive feedback. I'm still learning about upcycling and restoration so it's appreciated. Overall I'm happy with the end result though as this is a Upcycle not a restoration. I did consider a restoration and was torn between the two but finally decided on the Upcycle, maybe next time I'll restore. Hopefully you'll enjoy the next video it's pretty unique, (coming soon).
