@@abstractfactory8068 well it would certainly be kind to the modding community if Bethesda was to make the new game's engine backwards compatible with Skyrim's. However usually i hear that game designers "build the engine from the ground up, or scratch", which im almost certain i heard about Starfield. Starfield is going to use the same engine as TES6. So the question remains; how hard is it to transfer from one engine to another? It can't be as simple as just copy and pasting assets, can it?

Because Bethesda is a very small game studio compared to many many people working on this. Also, while Beyond Bruma is amazing, they haven't released much yet and it will be a very long time before all of it is released. Dont get me wrong, its insanely impressive but this team isnt making their own engine, they get to reuse a lot of assets and they have countless people helping out. Similiar to how Linux, an open source OS, has more people working on it than Microsoft does on Windows.
@morriganlefay5438
@morriganlefay5438 Жыл бұрын
@@Blackfatrat Bethesda are full time professional developers, these are itinerant volunteers modding in their free time while still having to juggle work, school, etc, it takes Bethesda generally four to five years to make a whole new Elder Scrolls game, they could have released something like this in the 12 years since Skyrim if they wanted to. Bethesda also doesn't have to make their own engine, they've been using the same one for over 20 years, just incrementally updated, the same engine that ran Morrowind is now running Starfield and will run TES VI.
@Blackfatrat
@Blackfatrat Жыл бұрын
@@morriganlefay5438 I'm sorry but you misunderstand software. There's nothing wrong with updating an existing engine over the ages instead of completly starting over every single time. Would you honestly prefer if all your games were made in a brand new engine every single time? You realise most engines are based on earlier engines right? The engine has been updated plenty of times, for example between skyrim and Fallot 4 which is why Skyrim special edition is a port to the engine. They have also done a major update to the engine from Fallout 4 to Starfield and presumebly more updates from Starfield to Elder scrolls 6. Windows is based on earlier versions of windows. Linux too, Mac os too, so is Android and IOS. The reason companies opt to improve instead of making things brand new every time is because it takes a very long time to just recreate what you already had. Bethesda could have done Elder scrolls 6 a long time ago but they have been focused on Fallout, Starfield, engine updates and some Skyrim cash-grabs(They are a company, remember that). There are more volunteers than workers in Bethesda and they have had very many years working on this. It's not 2 people working once a week on this project, it's very large. Again, just compare how many work on Linux vs Windows.
@morriganlefay5438
@morriganlefay5438 Жыл бұрын
@Blackfatrat I'm not saying they *should* make a new engine every time, just that they don't, so not having to make an engine isn't really something the modders have over Bethesda. Yes there may be more volunteers (though I don't know if they've ever given any numbers on how many people work on these projects) but they're working on no schedule, just whenever they have some free time and the amount of people available is wildly inconsistent. One day you might have twenty people available working on something and the next you might only have three. Even with a smaller team you're still going to get further with a consistent, full time development team than a whole bunch of volunteers coming and going at random with a huge variation in skill levels. Bethesda's devs work 9 to 5 five days a week in the best case scenario, considering games often have crunch during development where they end up working much longer hours. A BS Cyrodiil Dev might only have say three hours one week to work on the mod. It's not surprising then that it's taking so long to make what already takes half a decade for a professional studio to pump out. And I know they've been focused on other projects, that's the point, I was saying that *if they wanted to* they could have done something like this but they chose not to, instead of it being that they don't have the resources of this ragtag group of fan modders

Enderal, as much as I love it, is just trying too much, the same as Skyrim does. Frankly, if you have Morrowind, I'd also recommend playing Arktwend, even in it's beta stage. They said Project Tamriel was too ambitious too, but hey now we got the whole province to play with after all that, so I have high hopes for these eventually releasing. What I absolutely love about this mod is that it is actually bringing a 4th Era Cyrodiil and Morrowind, with original questlines and stories rather than Skyblivion and Skywind (I am anticipating those like hell as well) Since they have full creative freedom, I hope they bring some of that Pre-Oblivion Nibenean Jungle back, especially in the southern reaches when they get around to it.

Pace...not so much. It is a VERY ambitious project, considering most the devs are volenteer/minimum wage, I highly doubt the mod will be released anytime this decade tbh. I've been keeping track of Beyond Skyrim since at least 2013/14 timeframe for the last 8-9 years now and have been dreaming to see the entirety of Tamriel someday to explore in an Elder Scrolls game. If I had the time or energy to join, I would but I never had the time to do so due to my job commitments with other things but I have at least kept up on what has been going on with these projects regardless. When this is all said and done, its probably going to be on the scale of a MMO actually but in a single player game. But also defying the expectations and norms on how large a mod can be, which is another reason why I am deeply excited about this entire project in its entirety. However I will say and no pressure put on these fan projects (yes I understand because of the inconsistent progress made on projects like these), but the next game in a series (ESVI) can pull alot of people away (because they are volunteers and have no contract or commitments to stay on) from these types of projects that can take just as long or longer than a studio with a budget (we should be thankful Bethesda hasn't released a new Single Player Elder Scrolls game as of yet), then taking even more years, then soon decades into vaporware state of never releasing. I know a deadline isn't going to be realistic with these types of projects but since its been several years since the first pre-release: Bruma, we really do need the next piece of content to explore soon. I mean with any game basically of this size, to keep interest up in a project like this and for more people to come onto the project(s) to get them out even faster, more content needs to come out soon. I really hate to stress this, but interest will slowly fade away if nothing more comes out soon, be it a pre-release or one of the smaller projects outside of Beyond Skyrim. Were all dying to play this, but you have to step it up with something new for us to play soon, so even more people would be willing to join and help get this entire collaboration finished since we can only play Bruma for so long.

The new Morrowind pre-release trailer just came out- and it says "coming soon". Pre-releases are exactly what you describe: A piece of the pie, to get more people interested in helping make the rest of the pie. However, they can't just keep releasing multiple pieces of the same province, because that doesn't allow for a seamless and unified story, more like the whole game of Skyrim- it would end up more like ESO zones.

@@BrightEmber There not going to do too many pre-releases I don't think of each province, its going to be the pre-release and then the full province, no in-between. They should of devoted more resource to just one province allowing them to push out content faster, and more logically I think, as if you spread out your developers over several projects they are all going to progress slowly and will likely die, so I think it is smarter to push out one province than try and do all at once.

It is projects like this which delays TES6, in a good way! When your official development has such high bars to live up to with the modded scene being so ambitious, you've got to really hit one out of the park to contest! It's amazing, keeps them thinking and simply won't allow them to be lazy. (Which is unfortunately a common theme with some recent games, though this isn't directed to TES itself)

It’s predecessor, Nehrim I think? Is also very incredible as well. All the systems it adds that Oblivion never had seems crazy to me. Add it to the fact what the story is, I won’t spoil anything, but damn, it’s incredible.

Yeah, I think calling it "DLC sized" is a bit of a disservice. It's a fairly huge game in it's own right and the story's amazing.

@@Norinia I honestly like Nehrim more, very underrated mod and recommend it first if people are looking for a more similar experience to TES and can get past having to use subs since it only has German voice acting. Enderal still fucks hard, but it's much more story and character focused compared to TES and Nehrim which focus more on the world itself. Need to get back into both honestly.

I'm sorry, did you just call Enderal a "DLC-sized adventure"? It took me 95 hours to beat that game and I didn't even do everything. DLC-sized my ass, it's a full on game. And a much better game than Skyrim for that matter.
@cryptosporidium01
@cryptosporidium01 2 жыл бұрын
I agree that it's a full on game but not necessarily that the story is better than skyrim. The sisyphal stone of that boring dream stuff is annoying and the old menaces that destroys civilasations rising yet again is a tired eyerolling trope at this point and they impose you compagnons that are completely cringe. The map is really, really nicely done though and I like how creative the progression system is.

@@cryptosporidium01 Skyrims story is unique, and it SHOULD be better than Enderals. But it was bungled so god damn hard that *no one* enjoys playing through it. There's a reason why so many people have only finished it once despite playing the game for a decade.

It’s so awesome, but we are going to be waiting a very long time for all of this. Bruma released 5 years ago and was great, but that was a long time for just one city
@Jiub_SN
@Jiub_SN 7 ай бұрын
It wasn't the one city, they started cyrodiil and eventually decided on the prerelease thing which took them about a year, they've said that prereleases actually harm their work because releasing them takes additional time which obviously distracts from the rest of the project (things like containing the player) and they said they weren't going to release anymore for cyrodiil which is literally right around the corner now

I hate to be a pessimist but honestly it sounds like the BeyondSkyrim team are cooking too many pots on one fire... developers are either going to repeatedly quit & need replacing, or take multiple month long breaks without continuing at this rate. Much like the WaywardRealms/OnceLostGames team. Developing ONE expansion at a time seems far more viable than delegating whole zones to specific members divided into multiple teams to create them all parallel. Especially since by the time they come out, the 2011 Skyrim engine is going to seem dreadfully dated compared to at least rehauling into UE5 for a more future-proof release.
