I've been getting a LOT of questions about torque cancellation from the rotating habitats, so here's why they both rotate in the same direction: Both habitats are from a mod, and the mod includes counterrotating counterweights on each of the centrifuge parts, individually canceling out the torque on each centrifuge. There was no option to remove the counterweights on the parts, so I didn't bother making both centrifuges counterrotating as it didn't matter torque-wise and was easier to launch.

Just shock and awe. Looks like hundreds of hours sitting, tweaking retrying, calculating, thinking, engineering, planning. What the actual. I remember how I felt like a little kid getting his first toy when I first time managed to land on Mun, then on Minmus, then building a working rover and landing it on Mun and Minmus and then... When I actually did my first rendezvous mission and started to use landers rather than stages to land on bodies, and not to mention how my satelite network evolved as well. From antennas stuck up a basic module to sophisticated carrier rockets with 3 satellites to achieve a triple geo-stationary network... My best achievement in that playtime was to send a satellite carrier to Duna in preparation for a landing mission. I never got to that landing mission before I quit playing the game. I just needed a change, didn't have what it takes to play so long in one game even if it's fun. Respect to you though!

Your Vehicle reminds me a bit about the ISVs from Avatar - except it pulls its payload were you pushes it, and the ship only uses the rotating habitat modules when coasting, and in the burn and deacceleration phase accelerate at a constant 1.5g to make the gravity... and ofcourse it uses a photon beam and a huge sail to accelerate and deaccelerate on the tour from and to earth. In real life, the only changes to it would be thousands of ships in fleets (to better guarantee success), and the shield would be many and they would fly in formation millions of miles ahead for protection (if a particle the size of a grain of cigarrette smoke hit the ship, the gamma radiation produced would kill everyone). Pretty minor tweeks really. You nailed it.

@dragonking34312 жыл бұрын
It’s relatively simple once you have it figured out once,the main factors are habitation and supplies,for habitation there’s 2 values that determine how much of it a part gives,multiplier and months,months just simply adds more time to the hab timer for the amount of Kerbals it affects,multiplier multiplies the habitation of all things on the ship,generally you want a good balance of the 2,most parts have that automatically though so you don’t really need to worry about it,generally the best option to get more hab time is spam the atlas module from SSPX until you reach 50 years with your desired amount of Kerbals,once it reaches 50 years it goes to infinite.for supplies first you have the normal consumption,every Kerbals consumes a certain amount of supplies per day(I don’t know it right now,you can look it up on the USI wiki though),this can be drastically reduced using recyclers though,you should have enough of them to affect every Kerbal,you can set the SSPX greenhouse modules to life support mode and they will become great recyclers(for my own mission I need to support 400 kerbals on a 20 year trip though,so I made myself a very large recycler part,most recyclers have a relatively low number of crew affected and tweakscale doesn’t work on them).then you have the greenhouses,they use fertilizer and mulch(which is produced by kerbals as they consume supplies,you don’t have to worry about it at all),producing supplies using fertilizer is much more efficient than just simply packing them,you get ~10x more supplies out of a given mass of fertilizer than you get if you normally packed them,essentially pack as much fertilizer as you need for the with fertilizer readout on the mods menu to be long enough for your mission,then make sure your greenhouses supply production can keep up with the rate kerbals consume it at(I usually just launch the vehicle,test if it can keep up then revert flight,you can calculate it but the numbers are hard to work with and there are way too many modifiers involved)

I wonder, how many FPS you got with this monster ship? And I always confused how that thing didn't get kraken'd.. It's huge, it's laggy and very unstable. Other than that, it's amazing! Nice to see. :)

Around 5-15 depending on the situation. It did get krakened multiple times, but I just reloaded quicksaves to avoid it.

@EntropianVFX2 жыл бұрын
The fuel tanks are from Near Future Launch Vehicles. In case you're talking about SpaceX's Superheavy, that's not what I used. The launch vehicle is custom-built.

A 2nd particle shield should be added between the engine section and the rest of the vehicle because it also travels in reverse at high velocity for the deceleration part of the voyage.

love your vids! I'm curious how do you manage to get such smooth framerate?
@EntropianVFX2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Well, I didn't have such smooth framerate... at least with the raw video. I do some processing to my raw video before it's watchable. Before I even begin filming, I slow down the game with Time Control, so that my final product isn't substantially sped up. Next, I run my footage through FFmpeg, where I use the mpdecimate tool to remove all the duplicate frames in my raw footage (from recording 60fps on a program that's running at like 12fps). Then, I speed it up or slow it down in my editing software (DaVinci Resolve) to sync with the music.

A water tank absorbing incoming particles in front seems practical. Both as shielding and as mass used to accelerate the spaceship by the heated fusion-reaction.

The venture star is based on the real life concept design of the "valkyrie" in the film, the shuttle is called valkyrie, and in real life a similar concept shuttle was called venture star, for some reason they switched the names

Great conceptual presentation! Interesting to note that it's assuming SpaceX-like reusability, payload capacity, and launch cadence. It's unlikely that humans would be sent until automated research/mapping, resource capture missions would be completed first. Given the time it takes for communication to reach Earth, it'd be decades (depending on the engine tech used to get the pre-missions there) before human were sent - unless we staggered launches with the assumption that the pre-missions would be successful. We are not envisioning domed habitats on Mars (due to thin atmosphere and minimal magnetospheres). For similar reasons, it's unlikely that we'll assume domed habitats will work on PC planets until investigated. If we do send humans, we'd likely send at least 2 shuttles, not just one. It's unlikely that a single mission would be able to send enough manufacturing infrastructure to sustain a self-reliant colony. The conceptual presentation is wonderful - but it would be more likely that we would robotically build a working, self-sustaining city before sending our first human there - making the process centuries in the making. I'm all for making this happen - and videos like this will be instrumental in energizing our youth to pursue this. That said, it's unlikely that I'll be around when we our first unmanned mission arrives and reports back. In the mean time, looking forward to colonies on Mars!
