I have great memories of crossing the old bridge on my way to my job at the High School. I was an American recruited by the Labor Government of the time. I travelled it often, and even enjoyed the bumpy ride. It opened the way to Brisbane, a place to later become my home as I took a job at Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education. I was a Lecturer there and enjoyed my time there. I lived in Brisbane for two years and had the opportunity to travel the newer bridge in 1978 and drive by my place at Bay Boats. All great memories. My students are now retired teachers and, I still am in contact with a few of them. They have visited me near Silicon Valley, California, and their kids have taken trips here later as well. I have a sweet spot in my heart for Redcliffe, and Australia, overall.

I met a guy who's grandfather worked on the first bridge, his father worked on the second bridge, and now, he was working on the new bridge.

We're so excited that you're going to be speaking to us about this film at our next meeting in October. So wonderful that you've captured such an important part of our Redcliffe history. 😍

The bridge girders on the eastern side were severely attacked by termites, Coptotermes acinaciformis. The girders on the western side of the bridge had very little to no termite infestations. I was a member of a team from QLD Forest Services that undertook an inspection of the bridge timbers after the closure of the bridge and before its dismantling.

It's a shame the old bridge could not be saved, as it was used by pedestrians and recreational fishers after the new bridge was opened. I had the privilege of walking along the old bridge around 2002-03 before it was demolished completely.

Had a friend Kevin that hit the Brighton end of the bridge on his bike in 70, s he was dead on the spot

I remember last time I walked over it I was surprised it was open to the public. There were holes in the deck big enough for a child to fall clear through into the water, easy.

None of this represents or was for the people if anything they took more.
