BEYOND THE HIMALAYAS - EPISODE 1 - OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN

In 1994, soon after the break-up of the Soviet Union, I led the Central Asia Expedition - a 12,000 km journey across Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Chinese Turkestan (Xinjiang) and Tibet.
The purpose of the journey, besides adventure, was to renew India's ancient academic and cultural links with the people of Central Asia.
The expedition was conceived and organised by Major HPS Ahluwalia, President of Youth Exploring Society.
The 5-part serial on the expedition, commissioned by Doordarshan, was produced by Michael Haggiag and directed by Goutam Ghoshe.
The detailed account of the expedition is given in my book Silk Road on Wheels.
Episode 1 introduces the expedition and gives an account of the journey through Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Thanks a ton for these documentary,. This was one of the rarest gem of our childhood Doordarshan days ,Goutam Ghose on a journey through the silk route on Mahindra Armada , one of our strong SUV of 90s .and what a splendid narration of the evolution and journey of Asia's geo political history and culture.

@@akhilbakshi588 , Sir, i have searched for this documentary far and wide on the internet in P2P networks and on the darknet till I stumbled on this channel. As I am from Kolkata and a bengalee, it makes me feel proud thinking that a fellow Nationally acclaimed bengalee director Gautam Ghose has directed this documentary. I too remember watching this documentary on Doordarshan and remember that Mahindra & Mahindra has advertised this on print media as they have provided the vehicles for the expedition. However, it is my humble request to you if you could upload a better resolution of the episodes equal to Betacam standard as I hope that the Doordarshan documentary then was broadcasted in Betacam Standard. Although while watching the second episode of the documentary a section depicts director Ghose is editing the film which is on celluloid. So surely if the documentary has been shot of celluloid it could be transferred to a far higher resolution than Betacam ...may be 4K . Anyway, this gem of a documentary requires justice in terms of video quality.

@@LITO_FREDO , he's saying that Bukhara became an fully completed architectural complex and it remained unchanged until the end of the year 20 (probably he means year 1920). Then he says that the medrese (madrasah) behind him is still working and students still study there. After that he says that formerly a river Zaravshan was situated near the medrese (madrasah)
