I really want to know what would falsify Sam Altmans belief that we will get AGI eventually. Like what would be the minimum amount of evidence for him to think it’s less likely that AGI will be ever made than not.

I don't see how you could prove that.

@@julius333333 I think if there's nothing that could shift a persons belief in something then that's a red flag that the belief isn't that reliable or well founded. It wouldn't even have to be evidence that agi is impossible, just much less likely than he currently believes it to be.

@@PremierSullivana lot of different things, maybe if someone could show how the effects of electricity are actually better explained by something else or something show the effects of electricity to be illusory or somemthing

For something like electricity to be falsifiable seems inconsistent. It exists, but our theories concerning electricity are falsifiable. Since we don’t have AGI currently (I’m an AI researcher btw), I think @Ataraxia statement about what might make Sam less likely to believe AGI will come is an exceptional statement. @Conor Sullivan the electricity statement was a little off mark, but in close proximity to the essence of the initial statement.
