Happy thanksgiving week Kim! Your all videos have so much info and content that if the audience listens to each sentence carefully, it will be like completing a full chapter on that topic. Much appreciated 😊👍

is that your accent and tonation in real lif ? thank 's

Great question. I try to speak as naturally as possible in my videos, and I do use very expressive intonation in real life. However, I would say my normal speaking voice is slightly lower in pitch. I have a tendency to speak at a slightly higher pitch in these videos. You can hear my more natural speaking style in my live videos. Try this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWWyhXuor56tfK8 or this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4GUc2aEiKmmrdk and see what you think! As for my accent, I speak with the general American accent, but you will hear some New England influence on my vowels. I have never spoken with a Boston accent, even though my parents do.

Hi Kim, I'd like to know whether do they have the same pronunciation(You're and Your) or not?
@Englishwithkim4 жыл бұрын
When "you're" and "your" are reduced, which they often are, the pronunciation sounds the same, with that schwa sound: /jər/. When they aren't reduced, both words are usually pronounced like this: /jʊr/. When you are emphasizing "you're" for clarity, it will sometimes sound like this: /jur/ (with the long /u/ sound). I say it both ways, depending on the context.

" much obliged" can be used as "you're welcome"? Interesting. In Portuguese we use a lot "much obliged" to say "thank you" .
@Englishwithkim4 жыл бұрын
Great point. You're right - if people use "much obliged" in English, they mean "thank you." If they say it after someone says "thank you," they are returning the gratitude (like "thank YOU"). I cannot remember ever having used this phrase, as it only seems to be used in the South these days. It should be in my "thank you" video instead!
