Hi kim, I support you from saudi arbia 🇸🇦. You are doing a great things to do teaching the Non-English speakers, I'm studying English here in saudi arabia but after Global Crisis i am try a studing new words and language Basics from KZbin, I understand some time but i can't spoken like you. And we have a popular proverb here in Saudi Arabia that says: "Don't despise the little things" And : "All great things come from little little things" Good efforts and all love, Peace 🌿. Thanks for introducing yourself, Nasser! I'm glad you're using the time you have because of the crisis to focus on improving your language skills. You don't have to speak as fast as native speakers. It is much more important to speak clearly! If you'd like to slow down the videos, you can use the "gear" button to adjust the speed (or three dots on your phone). I also include subtitles on my videos to help you. Thank you for sharing that great saying. I often say "Small steps over time lead to big progress." We all have to start somewhere!

Hi Kim! I hope you are very well and in good shape. After watching even one of your videos, Kim, it's obvious to infer anyone will like learning English. I've realized so far that you have the keys of "communication". When you're speaking, I can observe what you're saying through your lips, eyes, face, and even your head by moving it "left to right, up to down". I'm proud of you Teacher! Congratulations Kim once more!
@Englishwithkim3 жыл бұрын
That's such an interesting observation! I think it's great that you're picking up on so many communication cues in the way I express myself through facial expressions. If you were to see me in person, you'd notice I gesture a lot with my hands as well - they're just out-of-frame in these videos, haha! I didn't realize my head movement was so helpful, but you're the second person to mention it this week. Even though I speak at a natural speed, I use my voice and other communication cues like those you've mentioned to help people understand. That would be an interesting topic for another video!

Haha, hopefully both. I use the Audio Technica ATR-2100 cardioid dynamic microphone. That model is discontinued, but there's a newer version available. The microphone is on a boom stand just out of frame. I use the XLR output to record the audio.

Thank you Kim. As always,your lessons are fruitful and practical.I couldn't agree more with you on this point because I have met quite a few beginner or intermediate students of English struggling to speak fast without noticing how ridiculous they sound and usually leads to "being pretentious". :-)

That's definitely another issue with trying to speak fast! Knowing what's going on in fast speech can be helpful if you want to understand native speakers better. But it's definitely not necessary if you want to speak clearly and be understood!

@@Englishwithkim I appreciate all your videos. They are really helpful to me, especially thought grups. I've been practicing my pronounciation using sentences stress and intonation over fast speech as your said. It is challenging and feel stupid sometimes, but I'm working on it.

I used to cling to speak fast similar to native speaker. A few years ago when I had been doing facebook a lot. A friend of mine who is Aussie told me that You speak too fast to understand. I just thought that The reason why she didn’t understand what I’m saying is just that She was not American and She didn’t get use to American English. Now I understand what’s the important thing than speak fast.
@Englishwithkim5 жыл бұрын
I definitely relate! I had someone explain to me that the reason my accent was strong in Spanish was that I spoke too quickly and didn't give myself time to say the sounds right. The same thing goes for speaking English. The challenge for many non-native speakers is rushing through stressed syllables, which native speakers are listening for in order to understand what you're saying. That contrast really matters. I'm glad you know how to speak clearly now!

Hi Kim, another great video of you, thank you! I have a question. Do you have any advice to increase volume when speking? I naturally have a little breathy soft voice and when I hear my voice on voice recorders, it doesn't sound believable nor motivated. I'm trying to breathe deep but it's not helping me. I'd like to have harder and stronger voice to sound more confident. Thank you for your help🤗
@Englishwithkim5 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. In an upcoming video that I'll be sharing soon, I talk about the difference between pitch and volume with some experiments you can do to isolate your volume. I also struggle with volume because when I try to increase the volume I end up straining at the higher end of my pitch. The general advice is to take deeper breaths and speak on the exhale so that there is power behind your words. I'm going to think on this some more, but I have you tried the resonance exercises at the end of this video? kzbin.info/www/bejne/ana2ZXiPj7Fnfbs It may not be your volume, but where you're speaking from. If you can visualize directing the sound to the center of your mouth, it will sound more confident and more resonant (and more American). If you can share anything else you've tried, it will help me answer your question better.
@mizukarpa5 жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithkim Hi Kim, thank you for your reply! I'm trying to find solution in voice trainings for singing as well and I'm guessing it's something to do with air pressure through my throat and also the place I use to resonate my voice. Because even after I breathe deep the amount of air coming out from my mouth is the same and that's why I don't see any changes. When I'm catching up with my breath after exercises I feel that limiter gets losen and have louder voice. I hope it helps. Thank you Kim.😊

The most effective thing you can do to improve your accent in American English is to start using word stress: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKfHd3lrhbRkfZo You can also check out my accent basics playlist here: kzbin.info/aero/PL81YJkck6j1tF6mKmreNoeo9KviE6cSyl
