This is a culture response to Japan’s dark past in the second world war. While Germany strives to educate its young ensuring that their school curriculum involves educating them about nazi history and being able to recognize its propaganda so it NEVER happens again. Japan does the opposite, the children in Japan know little about Japan’s alliance in WW2 and instead this whole cutesy patootsie pop culture is what’s developed…infinitely innocent and cute.
