I just want to help ending that Embody's arm "clunkiness" in reviews once and for all... If you activelly lift the arm up, while adjusting it, it "unlocks" and moves smoothly. If you use it and basically push it down with your elbow, it's locked. Anything between that causes that "clunky" move, that you can simply avoid by proper manipulation. Please, start telling that to people.
@chilenozo2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, never have clunkiness issues cause I never learned that habit. I like Embody's armrests better than Aeron as well.
@JBoy340a2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I have had the Embody for 5 years and never knew until now about lifting up the arms prior to trying to move them.
@dododge94282 жыл бұрын
On mine the mechanism is inconsistent. The left arm unlocks but still has a bit of a notched feel and sound when moving it in and out. The right arm completely unlocks for smooth adjustment *but* the unlocking mechanism only works at all for a narrow range of arm height. I normally keep the arm at a lower position outside the range and while it does lift a bit as if it's unlocking it, it doesn't change the clunky feel when adjusting the width. Perhaps newer ones are better (mine was bought in 2009) but if not it's easy to see how everybody misses that this feature exists.

Almost all of these type videos are misleading people about how to adjust the width of the Embody's armrests. The self proclaimed authorities really ought to be aware of the product features about which they're attempting to inform us. I share in your, most justified, exasperation concerning their ignorance.

I bought a Aeron back in May of 2020. I wasn't able to try it out because everything was closed at the time, but herman miller had a 25% off sale so winged it. Best purchase ever, absolutely zero pain or discomfort after sitting for 10+ hours. Chair still feels new after 3 years. I still would like to try the Embody and if I like it, maybe ill buy that one too eventually but for now the Aeron does its job.

The Aeron is uncomfortable for you to stretch in because it's too small for you. I know the website says the medium size is appropriate for someone your size, but looking at how it fits you, you need a size C. The exact same thing happened to me, and the support agent I spoke with recommended I size up. I did and it's much better.

Fast forward a few years later and I went to a store that had all the major chairs...I tried an Aeron C and it feels like it was made for me. I honest was looking for reasons not to get it based on my past experience but it was unavoidable that it was the chair that felt best to me. I'm 6 feet 185...I don't particularly think I'm a big guy, a little taller than avg. but the C fit me so well

Don’t know what HM have against headrests. I need one because of a neck injury. Fortunately, the third party Atlas is excellent. So Aeron/Atlas was my choice. Also the depth adjustment on the arms makes it possible to play guitar, whilst using music software on PC.
@blurryface99102 жыл бұрын
HM actually designed the Embody to force your body into such a position that you don't need a headrest. I've seen many people mention that they don't feel the need for a headrest on that specific chair. As someone who uses headrests extensively, I find that very strange but I'm also quite eager to try it out - since it sounds like it really forces you to have good posture while maintaining comfomfort.
@thierryfaquet74052 жыл бұрын
You should never need nor use a headrest on an *office* chair. It's really bad for your neck muscle and overall posture. The human neck is "designed" to always support the head, your are weakening it by resting for no reason. Obviously if you need one because of an injury it's a different case, but a brand is obviously designing chairs for non "disabled" bodies. People with special needs should use products more in line with what they need . Herman Miller could design something for people like you, but I doubt the market size is interesting. Sure it sucks, but that's the business.

I tried out both chairs in show room. I have back/tail bone pain & just cannoe find a comfortable sitting position on the Aeron chair. Like what the video described, the mesh is not that floating type it is on hard side. I immediately felt the comfort when once switching over to try Embody. Personally I will buy Embody if I were to buy chair at this price range. It is important to try out the chairs personally in the showroom & cannot just merely depending on review from others (I have seen opposite differing reviews on same chair though).

Aeron user here of around 1 year. I personally don’t really experience any of the issues described in the video. That being said, I have a smaller build and fit in the Aeron in such a way that I never really struggle with pressing against the plastic frame. That is probably the biggest determining factor I can think of when someone decides if they love or hate the Aeron. I also find the mesh seat to be comfortable - sometimes cushioned chairs leave me feeling fatigued, such as the Leap V2. I don’t feel this in the Aeron, and I also appreciate the cooling effect of the mesh during hotter months. At any rate, he Aeron simply does not get along with some body types. Sizing and adjustments can help, but not always. I will say, as someone who fits well in the chair, I find it to be extremely comfortable. But I equally understand if someone finds it to be extremely uncomfortable. It’s definitely not a great chair for everyone. Try both before buying if you can. I’d love to try the Embody, I’m sure it’s as great as everyone says it is. However I was extremely impressed with the Aeron when I first sat in one at my last job, and was confident in my purchase of one for home use. Good luck chair shoppers :) and thanks for the video BTOD. I am always interested in your analysis.
@adiorthotos2 жыл бұрын
Thankfully I tried both chairs before buying and ultimately chose the Embody. And the reason is the max armrest width. Let me explain: Something that I've seen no review mention anywhere (and I've watched virtually every video on youtube on these chairs) is that the Embody's armrests at the widest setting are considerably wider than the Aeron size C, even with all the "superior" armrest adjustability. I'm 185cm 92kg with a bit wider shoulders and in the Aeron, I was just feeling constrained with my arms and harder to breathe. If I would place my elbows as wide as I felt comfortable (straight under my shoulders) then they would be scraping the outside edge of the Aeron's armrests and slide off. _Very_ annoying and obviously uncomfortable. You'd think that with all those armrest adjustments the Aeron would be superior to the embody on that front, but for me, it's actually just not good enough. Something the videos won't say is that the more adjustments something has the more "play" and "rattle" it has. As a result, the Embody's armrests have very little play and feel more stable. Also, the "digital" armrest height adjustment (fixed available height positions) on the Embody is much more convenient than in the Aeron because I know that to sit in a different position I need to go "2 clicks down". Then when I'm done I go "2 clicks up" and both armrests are at the same height. In the Aeron, the armrest height is "analog" and it's always a struggle to place them both at the same height, so I ended up just not moving them as often.
@Waruto2 жыл бұрын
can confirm, the arms is not wide enough for people with wider shoulders. I like the Aeron overall but the arm rest might be a deal breaker for me. I feel so constrained and cannot relax my arms due to how wide narrow it is. And this is size C...

I have both Herman miller Aeron size B and Mirra 2. Mirra 2 is very comfortable except for the plastic back. Mirra-2's back should have been built with same mesh material as Aeron's back. Herman miller Aeron type-B is a mid back chair and doesn't support upper back (Type C is much better as it has few inches higher back). I think Herman miller needs to increase the height of Aeron's back by 4-5 inches so that it supports the complete back (similar to embody). Embody is very good in all aspects except it has narrower back and doesn't cover your back if you have wider back. Seat of all the 3 chairs are good and no problem sitting 8+ hours. Overall, considering all these features/drawbacks of these 3 chairs, I still think MIrra-2 is most comfortable of them all.
@ondrejsobek65652 жыл бұрын
I recently had Mirra 2, Aeron, as well as the Embody (each for a week at 12+ hours every day, except Embody which I had for 3 days so far), because I wanted to finally upgrade from my old chair (DXRacer King, over 4 years old when large patches of the PU leather came off). Mirra 2 is basically a downgraded Aeron in all aspects - armrests have much rougher surface texture and are also much harder (still soft plastic, but nowhere near as soft as the Aeron or even the Embody where your elbows literally sink in by their own weight), the mesh on the seat is also rougher and felt a little less soft, but not bad quality by any means. I tried the Mirra 2 (butterfly back) first, but had to return it, because the seat width was not enough and the side of the frame was digging into my hamstring (I am 6"6' / 270 lbs, 198cm / 120kg). But other than that, it's still a solid chair and I had no issues with the build quality overall - it was quiet and did not make any sounds even when reclining and rocking back and forth. The tilt mechanism is just as smooth as the Aeron, so you're not losing anything there. In my country (Czech republic, Europe) the Aeron is about 50% more expensive than the Mirra 2 (both fully loaded), so that's why I tried the Mirra 2 first and tried to make it work. C sized Aeron is wider, the mesh is even higher quality and feels really nice, however there is one thing where the Aeron let me down significantly and that's the posture fit SL lumbar support. Firstly, it's not height adjustable - who in their right mind puts a non-height adjustable lumbar support on a $1500+ chair? Of course, being nearly 2 meters tall the standard position is too low for me, where the lower pad pushes into my butt and the upper pad into my lower/mid lumbar region rather than the upper lumbar. Second problem is the shape - it's just two rubber pads pushing into your spine and that's it. I found it unusable in any position expect the most relaxed one, where it is sort of in line with the mesh on the backrest and does not protrude from it. Because if I set it more aggressively, it just creates pressure points on my spine, but the sides of my lumbar region (where your kidneys are) are completely unsupported as the pads push outside of the natural curve of the mesh and dig into my back - not cool at all. On the other hand, Mirra 2 with the butterfly back had a really great lumbar support. I could adjust the height as well as the depth and even change the depth independently on each side. So I was able to set it up that it hugged my back really nicely and provided great support over the entire lumbar region and not just the spine. Maybe I am in the minority, but in my personal opinion the Mirra 2 with adjustable lumbar has FAR superior lumbar support and overall better backrest than the Aeron with Posture fit SL. Unfortunately, it is worse in everything else. As for the embody - I just got it three days ago, but so far I would say it fits me the best and is the most comfortable. That's mainly because of the back rest, where I really like the natural curve and the adjustability. Having spent the past 3 years in a gaming chair (DXRacer King) the Embody single-handedly fits me the most. I was pissed at the Aeron, because unlike any gaming chair it does not support independent backrest angle adjustment and I don't like that super upright position which the Aeron has in the first tilt lock position. The only thing you can do is engage the tilt at the middle position and set some reasonable tilt tension - that's cool, but the problem is, that because of that silly synchro-tilt mechanism, when you recline in the Aeron it also pushes the seat upwards, which means that the front of the seat stars putting pressure at the bottom of my thighs making it pretty much useless for actual long term sitting. Someone would probably say that the point of synchro-tilt is to maintain ergonomically correct position when reclining - well, screw that, it just doesn't make any sense, because to be actually comfortable, I need to be able to adjust the backrest angle WITHOUT changing the position of the seat. And $1500+ Aeron just can't figure this out. I could make it work if the shape of the Aeron's backrest fit my body nicely, but it doesn't - I can make it okay for my lower back, or my upper back, but not both - its curvature just doesn't work for me. But guess which chair can? Coming from a gaming chair the Embody is a godsend, because it allows to tune the angle of the backrest independently of the seat, so I am able to configure the angle between my butt and my back exactly how I want to (within reason, it obviously cannot do a 160° angle like a gaming chair, but I never used that and don't care about those ridiculous angles). So I can sit at say a 115 degree angle between the seat and the backrest which is exactly what I like - the common 90-100 degrees is just too steep for me and I don't like that super upright position. BTODtv also forgot to mention that the tilt tension adjustment on the Embody not only influences the tilting itself, but it also changes how easy or difficult it is to BEND the backrest. If you increase the tilt tension, even if you don't use the actual tilt and have it locked in the first position, then the backrest will require more force to bend to the same degree compared to a looser tilt tension. Which in my opinion is pretty cool as it gives you yet another adjustment - not just the independent angle of the backrest, but also how easy / tough it is to flex the backrest, really nice. As for the seat, I have the Sync fabric (should have the most padding) and my chair was manufactured in December 2021 which means it's the newer revision with the upgraded padding. I wouldn't say the seat on my Embody is uncomfortable, but it is relatively firm - feels firmer than the DXRacer King and definitely firmer than the Aeron (size C). After about 2 hours my butt starts hurting and I need to get up and stretch, then it's fine again. This NEVER happened with Aeron, not even once, the mesh seat felt softer than the Embody to me, so I am not sure why BTODtv thinks it's the other way around, but they tested a ton of chairs and I used only a handful, so it's probably just a different opinion based on experience. Overall, I will be returning the Aeron and keeping the Embody as it fits me really nicely, I especially like the support which the backrest provides, it's adjustability and no firm frame around the seat / backrest. Seat is a bit firm, but it's not a dealbreaker for me and I have heard there's a bit of a break-in period and it should get even better over time. If anyone wants to know anything specific, feel free to ask and I will try to answer to the best of my ability.

Thank for explaining your experience so comprehensively Ondřej. What are some of the reasons you prefer Embody over Dxracer? How would you compare these two chairs, especially comfort-wise? And about Aeron, if you only bought that chair would you still prefer and use it over Dxracer or would you return the Aeron and continue to use Dxracer? I didn't have time to watch all of the video, so I skipped to the ending/final thoughts. And I think the more important question would be ergonomics, not comfort. And especially not being allowed to sit like you want.. Because sitting like people want to sit is really unhealthy for the body. When I had my used aeron in the best, I've never had a better chair experience. The comfort was top notch (while the frame of it, and no headrest did bother me a little bit), the chair forced me into perfect economics, and that was the best thing about it. Use it, and stay healthy while gaming all day. Never had any back pain, neck pain, ass pain or anything for the years I had and used it. Sadly it did break after only a few years due to my pants buttons ripping open the mesh.. :/ So I recommend people think about what kind of pants they use on it, or maybe check if it's within the warranty :p I have never understood the embody chair.. It looks like a completely normal office chair with a different skeleton support back rest. What justify the price, and makes it up there with the aeron?? The seat seems like any other office seat, why not get a secret lab chair instead of that, and save the money? The high quality mesh for the ass on the aeron though. That's really beneficial, never hurting even if you game 14+ hours a day for years :3

I went to test sit these two chairs today, and my assumption came true about the Embody. The backrest is too short for that design because the sharp upper left and right corner of the chair digs into my shoulder blades. I am 184cm tall and that's what happen to me with lots of chairs. They are simply designed for shorter people. Personally I felt right at home with the Aeron in size C, and the hard outer framing of the mesh did not bother me at all which some people mention. I do agree that the chair is a bit on the firm side, so this is strictly aimed for being productive and not something I'd recommened for lounging. As the Embody doesn't have any size options the chair in itself is thereby outruled. I still want to test some more chairs as well, because I am willing to pay premium, but I am only going to have 1 chair and I want to make sure I jump onboard with the right one. If only they mounted the backrest and armrests of the Aeron onto the Embody, I think we'd have a winner.

I'm 198cm and the embody is totally fine tho. I would guess it's just a limited size-band where the shoulders just aren't at the right place ? And my dream would be the exact invert as yours : Embody backrest on an Aeron mesh seat.

You'll need to try them. Nobody can guess for you. I literally tried both 6 hours ago. Loved both, still yet to decide which one I will order tomorrow. They are quite different in the feeling yet both really good for different reasons.
@eppie10732 жыл бұрын
@@thierryfaquet7405 I actually tried them both yesterday, for me the Embody is very comfortable to sit and the wider and flatter seat so you can sit in different positions like indian sitting, lifting one leg on chest, cross legged , etc. The pixelated back is good when you tilt backrest far back and sitting in a relaxed position, sitting straight is a different story, it makes my shoulders curl forward and tends me to slouch and the backrest and seat pan squeaks/creaks. Aeron is more firm than the Embody , no creaking squeak sounds at all, armrest is softer, backrest is good when sitting upright and straight, better lumbar. in the end I bought the Aeron. No noise, easier to clean and maintain . Was looking for a chair mainly is to correct my posture then comes comfort.

Hi. Quick question, have you noticed any creaking on your Embody in the seat extender mechanism area? I received my chair 2 weeks ago and it has been creaking in that area since day 1. The left side is completely silent tho, creaks are only on the right side near the handle.
@lordbaby1002 жыл бұрын
I've also had the Embody for 2 weeks and it has the same creaking noise on the right side. I also find that the right side of the seat is a little firmer (the springs are harder to push down) so I sometimes get pain in my right hip from the uneven seat.

I just bought a brand new Embody, had it for three days, label says it was manufactured on December 2021, so it should have the upgraded padding (Sync fabric). The front part of the seat (I have it fully extended since I am nearly 2 meters tall) does make a sound when I put or remove pressure from the area. It's like there's a little bit of a gap in the mechanism, so it can travel a little and touch the rest of the frame - that's where the sound is coming from, I think. But when I just sit in it normally, it doesn't make sounds unless I start lifting my legs significantly (like all the way to my toes) - that relieves pressure of my body from the front part of the seat and the sound happens. The Aeron is definitely quieter in this regard and feels more sturdy, but I can't make it work due to the backrest shape and my inherent dislike of Posture fit SL, so I will be returning it.

"this makes me need to get out of the chair after using it for several weeks and use something else instead" is probably the last thing you want to hear about a chair that costs over 1700$...
@thierryfaquet74052 жыл бұрын
That's just a personal take tho. Thousands of people work daily in Embody's without issues. That's why you should try a seat before buying, watching youtube can only gives you the percks and build quality of a product but it will never show you your own feelings when using it. One is not better than the other, it's just different taste.

right?! this guy is singing praises for the Embody but doesn't even have it as his main driver. In another video he says he has to rotate out of the embody because the seat cushion started to feel uncomfortable. Most people are buying one main chair and don't have the luxury of keeping and rotating multiple chairs. I think he's had a bit too much Embody kool-aid

So I am watching these videos for 2 years now. Actually, no one really seem to really like these expensive chairs overall. I tried so many companies and models. They nearly all were trash for the money. After trying the Gesture, Embody, and many more, I settled for the Steel Case Think. It is not perfect, albeit costing over 500 €. However, it is okay enough. All in all, a very unsatisfying industry. How is this so hard to manufacture a good chair if that is literally your business for decades..

Both are overrated, yes they are comfertable but not for that price mark ( i have the embody gaming ) i love it yes but its not worth that price tag, if you can buy, buy any ergonamic chair is fine, sht a generic costco chair does the trick. I just had extra money and i liked that 12 year warrenty Overrall good chair overrated tho, delusional price

I bought an Embody Gaming and tried to sit in it for 3 days and couldn't get into it, without having immense lower back pain. Now I feel gas-lit by the entire online community, recommending the Embody over the Aeron, however I can sit perfectly fine in the Aeron at work The Embody will go back however in the next days, I'm done trying to test it. Either I sit very weirdly or I'm using it horribly wrong
