@Maxi Max An animal like a goat has consciousness and a strong central nervous system which relays and processes pain and fear. Also, when you humanely kill a goat, it dies instantly, or close to. A tree, however, is not conscious and has no nervous system. It also doesn't "die" immediately when cut down. Each cell gradually shuts down as they run out of resources. So technically, when you eat an apple or a leaf of lettuce, it is still "alive" in that the cells in it are still whole and active. The idea of humane or inhumane really doesn't apply to trees. Nor does the idea of alive or dead as we think of them with animals.

from the slow motion you can see the nearby trees get hit with the blast and they get bent out of the way. the footage shows them bowing pretty hard, so either from them returning back to straight or just the sheer amount of bend in them at that point is prolly what caused the tops to snap off the nearby trees. great video as always.

@Aussie Shane ffs, the tree was due to be cut down for timber soon after the film was made. That's the thing about trees, they make wood. That means you can have furniture in your house. Do you have furniture in your house? Yes? Then YOU yourself encourage the cutting down of trees by your lifestyle choices. So.…. go figure.

My brother in law worked for a forestry company back in early 90s. He had to blow up a I'd say 150ft long 10ft wide Beaver dam that was causing flooding of a bit of land. The dynamite was this white clay like stuff wrapped in Orange wax paper stuff. We used fuse with blasting caps. First hit we used 4 sicks and nothing. We used 4 more and nothing. We used what we had left which was 8 sticks. We got behind a huge huge oak about 200 ft away and I give you my word I came off the ground. I could feel my body compress and bounce off the ground! You could see the shockwave leaving us in a circle as it knocked all the leaves on the ground flat and bushes. We came around the tree to look and the blast had pushed all the water back a long distance. At that moment it started raining mud, sticks and rock. It sounded like a terrible hail storm and kinda blocked out the daylight. It was then we heard the rushing of the water down the hill. Then at that moment a huge root came tumbling thought the trees and made a big thud as it hit the ground. I will never forget that and most don't believe the 16 stick dynomite beaver damn but I swear it's true. Good fun memories

I was hoping you dig a hole and put the tree right on top of the explosives. Basically using the Earth as a cannon to launch the tree stem. Still such a satisfying boom when it's buried like that.

Nerdy botany notes: The family Pinacea has existed as various species since the Jurassic period. This species P. Albies can grow up to about 35cm year in ideal conditions. As a whole Pinacea has survived two major extinctions(Including the one that killed the dinosaurs), meteor strikes, giant volcano eruptions (Yellowstone), Nuclear explosions, Nuclear power plant meltdowns, hurricanes, brush fires, lava traps, floods, mud flows, lahars, ice ages, man chopping down tons of them. This tree however didn't stand a chance against the tree exploder 5,00,000. :)

The tree is the spaceship and the squirrel was their astronaut/test subject. More tests are obviously still needed but that was a solid start.

We did this in the British Army back in the 80’s. I was in the Royal Engineers and we needed to get this stump out of a lake and we couldn’t pull it out due to the wet clay soil causing the vehicle to slip. So we wrapped a load of det cord around the trunk and placed PE-4 around the base of the stump, under the water... and when we fired it off it launched the stump and chopped it in two and then landed it on the side of the cab of our 4 ton truck. We didn’t take into account of the water redirecting the blast into the base of the stump.

Don't try this at home? Dude, if I did this anywhere on my property my entire house would be obliterated, and all surrounding houses would also be obliterated. There would be nothing left but splinters. Doing this at home, here in the city, would practically destroy and an entire city city block. Even if some houses survived structurally, all the windows on the block would be blown out, plus the windows in all the cars. Don't try this at home, *_INDEED_* !!!

My father told me a story about how in the army during one of the fire drills in the mountains an old guy was chopping a massive oak out and offered them some wine if they do it for him. They wrapped some explosive wire around the tree trunk and blew it up. The tree landed like 20 metres away.

Usually getting permit to use dynamite is much easier than founding such a remote place where you can do stuff like this :D

We have a good friend - he is way over 80 years now and used to work in a quarry as a blaster expert. One sylvester eve he wanted to get rid of old tree roots in his garden and used some dynamite sticks (probably not dynamite but some gun powder like blasting material). The root actually came out but went into the roof of the neighbors house. I would have liked to hear his explanation of that happening :-)

We did this to a pine tree. Ground was very wet. Used a pipe to create holes around the root ball. Put 3 sticks of “dynamite” in each hole. Launched the 75’ pine tree straight up for about 50’. Came back down in the huge crater the explosion created. It was awesome!! This was in 1996 or 1997.
