It works because the answer to the question "who am i?" isn't "a killer" but "my choices". This is why it works as a trilogy and can't be added to. "We didn't make you. You volunteered."

@57:36, One film that comes to mind as the likely ground work for this chase is the city tank chase from GoldenEye (1999). Yes we have an under powered car trying to evade cops yet the intensity and unpredictable chaos of Bourne's flee has similar movie beats to GoldenEye's. How serious the Bourne's flee feels vs how playful Bond's chase is, these are the major differences for me though. I wonder what was their inspiration for Bourne's flee scene. The likely source material that they used.
