Watching this after seeing the Snyder Cut, really hits home just how HORRENDOUS Joss Whedons approach was. It's appalling! I did notice at the time that the leather pants Diana butt shot was almost exactly the same as the leather suit Black Widow butt shot of the first Avengers, as well as the cleavage "joke" that he also recycled. He either thinks that most superhero fans are teenage boys in their bedrooms or he just loves doing these things himself. Either of these explanations is insulting and studios need to be very careful if they ever give him work again.

Yet they are still stuck in ancient, pre firearm modes of warfare. Even after their humiliating losses from bunch of half assed German soldiers with basic rifles a century earlier. Even after Hippolyta's own sister Antiope was killed by a gun that day. Fuck man, even crossbows have more stopping power than most hand drawn bows do. So for all the "strong, powerful and fearless" schtick they are either dumb as a bag of bricks, or so hopelessly isolationist that they would risk the destruction of the entire world on their Amazonian pride. Neither reason paints them in a particularly positive light. Especially as WW1 went to such lengths to portray the Amazons as a learned, scholarly people as well as warriors. Not that it even makes any sense for the Amazons to still to be stuck on Themyscira in the first place. They were isolated there by Zeus thousands of years ago to protect themselves and Diana especially from Ares. Diana could at least have returned to tell them it was safe to leave after she killed him.

I'm a regular view and love the content, but I simply can't understand how Wonder Woman is even remotely a candidate for the Oscars. Apart from the whole role of women, the acting is hammy, story seemed recycled and unoriginal, two generic, boring films, an ending that could have been well explored, but was shunned for every superhero cliche in the book, I could go on. I'm don't want to see the DCEU fail, because it has so much potential (e.g. Nolan's Batman trilogy), but if you can look me in the eye and tell me that WW deserves an Oscar, even more than say Logan, there you should get locked up in Arkham.

godhead that’s the point, people now a days are calling out blatant and casual objectification of characters, they feel that the characters need to be treated with more respect. And I agree with that sentiment. And that’s why I feel that there needs to be a discussion about this, like a lot of comedy or romantic scenes depicted in the early 90s come across as extremely problematic. From the straight up sexual assault in revenge of the nerds to the transphobia in ace ventura, these were movies that were once liked but then people accepted the fault that were there in the movies when they were called out, and now people call out such stuff more, because social media has given a lot of avenues for people to voice their opinions

Joss whedon has made stuff in the past with strong female characters at the center, for example: Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse. All great things with female main characters, that no one seemed to think was misogynistic.
