You are the literal BEST teacher and instructor, and are SO kind to give us step by step for free. I’ve been wanting to begin my metal smith journey for like 4 years now, but I have a learning disability and get discouraged very easily in a public setting. So this video is the holy grail of what I’ve been searching for 🙏 thank you!

When I first decided to get into this, I thought meh, maybe $300 to get started. I did the math the other day. I have $900 into this!! And I’ve only attempted my 3rd unsuccessful bezel. Good luck girl.

Nice video. The trick with the floss was new to me. I usually have an open backside on the pendants I make so I can push the stone out. Also it reveals more of the stone and saves silver. One thing I do differently is I put the pieces of solder on the outside of the setting rather than on the inside. For two reasons, it's easier to clean up and if some solder remains on the inside of the bezel, it can leave a little hump that increases the risk of breaking the stone when applying pressure while setting the stone. And I really like your saw, I've never seen one like that before.

I also set the bezel on top of the solder pellet that the solder fliws up the seam and doesn't blow away

I am always watching and rewatching your tutorials because I have and continue to learn so much from you. Thank you so much for that!!! I wanted to share I learned a really cool trick for bringing out the colors of labradorite (especially the blues) before you place your stone for the final setting take a piece of black electrical tape and put it on a piece of cardstock or printer paper. Cut it out to the dimensions of your stone and set it in the bezel add your stone to the top and holy cow I am so serious HUGE difference!!! Its really cool!!! 😁

I am working on labradorite a larger one and making a bezel is hard it’s been a headache. Every time I get one made it seems like when I get it on the back plate and I’m going to set the stone stone doesn’t quite fit right I don’t like using adhesive so I end up starting all over. You might want to look into a plumbers propane torch setup. This setup will run you about $20-$30. I still use these torches for projects to this day 😊👍

Hi Randy! Could you make a video explaining more about diamond bits and filing? Or rather polishing?

Yeah I can do that in the future. I just need to think of a good way to do this.

Use a ceramic plate to make beads. No sparks. Angle slightly and beads will roll off to pick up tray. When alloying place lowest melting metal under or fold with alloying metal at lowest temp till low melting metal (zinc or tin) begins to liquefy and absorb itself (alloy) into the other metals then begin to increase temp and stir with stirring rod. 😉

My biggest problem seems to be getting the little solder pieces to go where I want them to go. I guess I just need more practice

Look into getting a solder pick like this one so you can move it around or add it as its a liquid bit.ly/ErgoLastTitaniumSolderPick

If you do do that video, could you please try see the best way to do so without a rolling mill? That has been my greatest issue. It takes me forever to get an ingot to shape thin enough to be pulled thru the draw plate and would like to see if there is a technique that I'm missing to make it a little easier without having to invest in a rolling mill. I am just a hobbiest and only sell to pay for my precious metals etc. So it wouldn't be practical just yet for the mill.

Sadly, I use a roller mill to make my sheet and wire. The roller mill that I use was about $300 and was the cheapest one I could find at the time.

Hello! Do you have a specific tool or technique you use for getting a smooth, professional surface to the INSIDE edge of the bezel? I get the outside edge looking perfect, but the inside will a few dimples and needs to be burnished. I cant do it with a burnisher without touching the stone. Suggestions?

These pieces turned out beautiful. When you sanded the pieces with the flex shaft what bits did you use? I hate sanding by hand.

Why do you prefer to fuse the jump rings vs soldering them?

I like it mostly because I'm good at it and I don't have to deal with the solder 😅
