This is the best High-Yo-Yo BnZ instruction video I've seen. I've seen a lot. Will try to implement this with the K in DCS World. Thank you.

Thanks, I am a 109 pilot almost exclusively, If I get bounced, I run like Hell. However a lot of spitfires I bounce pull a hard tight mangled S, first the go up as I come behind them, then hard one way and then dive and then the other way - if I try and follow I black out.

I totally agree - this is amazingly informative. I've enjoyed lots of other CoD vids but I've never learned so much so quickly. Brilliant stuff.

In air combat the term energy is used very often.When you are moving fast you are high on kinetic energy,when you have the altitude advantage you are high on potential energy which can then be converted into more kinetic energy when diving down.The high yo-yo is a great tactic to keep that energy as high as possible, specially when fighting against better turning planes like the Hurricane and Spitfire.

Yes, however I would only use that if I was positive I was safe and I was going to perform a finishing blow. The offensive barrel roll or lag displacement roll is used when you are going to over shoot your target and you actually want to slow down and end up behind him.

Hurrican had a killing shot at the end of scissors, just after he got damaged. You were kinda floating right in front of hurricane at the end. but luckily he didn't take the shot! so you won nicely :D

WW 2 ace pilots always used to say - speed is life. P 51 pilots used the tactic boom and zoom against bf 109, because they knew it's impossible to outmonoeuvre a messershmitt or a fw 190 in tight turns. The key of their success was the speed, use the altitude to convert in speed or use the speed to convert in altitude ;boom and zoom on your enemy and go back to safe altitude where he cannot pursuit you.

The 109 would perhaps have beaten a p-51 in turns at medium-low speeds, but a fw wouldn't have succeeded. At high speed the P-51 was better than both at turning and the American anti-G suits allowed more Gs in turning... Both German planes were designed for energy combat and not for turning combat...

Thanks for this video Farber! It is very helpful and I have practiced this in single player mode. I sometimes cannot get my 109 out of a spin using the accepted technique of opposite rudder and nose down though? But practice ........practice....

Really good video and flying. I would've let go some bursts on some occasions you didn't. Sometimes I feel like even thought you make a difficult deflection shot you might get your opponent nervous and he might drain even more his energy. Nevertheless, perfect flying, just pointed out my thoughts....

the principles work for every plane - if you have an e-advantage, you keep that advantage. . .and use high e acm. The 110 is a lot heavier, and the margin for error is far greater, it loses e a LOT faster (if anything the 109 can build e so quickly) and you basically almost never recover it. So for the 110 I would use more traditional BnZ rather then rolly, loopy yoyo and vector rolls.

Perhaps however the elevator does not seem as responsive to me so what you might keep in energy you might loose in time.

Yet the highest ever scoring real life bf 109 pilot never bothered with, or in fact ever even heard of, any of this finicky over-analysed (and frankly anachronistic) "fighter maneuver"stuff.

Source? Maybe your ass? Plus, we are flying in 2019 and thus can use ideas from this era... or should everyone still connect via the telegram to play their flight sims, using only doctrine from that era, for realism?

Great video! Thanks for this! Are you doing a lot of prop pitch management when you do this?
@5jg27farber
@5jg27farber 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, although a friend pointed out to me that often I actually leave the pitch alone and just close the throttle for the dive and use loads of throttle on the climb. The 109 pitch speed is slowish so this method helps for lots of quick changes. However obviously no throttle hi pitch in a dive acts as a brake. Please check out my new channel: Lehrgeschwader Eins - Stay on Target!
