English - One of the very last daylight broad gauge runs of train 9102 between Maryborough and Ballarat. The broad gauge fruity originated from the temporary location of Manangatang and from the middle of march 2018 when this line is converted to standard gauge, train 9102 will revert back to it's original run to and from Mildura on the newly converted standard gauge track. The train is viewed between various locations between Maryborough and Warrenheip Loop where the train then continued onto Melbourne via Geelong. It was great to see two XR locomotives leading the train which had a mixed bag of the usual containers and liquids and some grain wagons up front which would have been dropped off at Geelong. Locomotives - XR557 XR553 and G539. Various locations for the train are listed below.
00:30 - Tullaroop Road Maryborough
06:06 - Behind Goldfields Reservoir Maryborough
11:00 - Between Talbot and Clunes (Clunes Evansford Road)
13:10 - Tourello
15:26 - Frasers Road Invermay
16:55 - Ballarat Station
19:31 - Warrenheip
Filmed March 2nd 2018.

Amazing view at 6:00. I suppose the lens exaggerates the gradient, but that must be quite a challenge for the drivers balancing throttle and brake with the front of the train going downhill while the rest is still going uphill.

The lense does exaggerate but the grade is still pretty steep especially as the train departs Maryborough station.

Thanks. These grain was a real bonus. The 9102 on the Wednesday which has to be one of the last will have the same combination. This weekend look out for coverage from Manangatang itself.

2 questions, how many wagons was it towing? I lost count at 40, an what is in those " Pal Tank" wagons?
@Schony747
@Schony747 3 жыл бұрын
Probably 40 but I'm not 100% sure. Tanks are carrying wine from the Sunraysia region for export from what I was told when I asked the question a while ago.

What was the length by chance?
@Schony747
@Schony747 3 жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure but I'm guessing 1100 metres as the crossing loops can't accommodate much more than that.

Was the front part grain from Yelta which runs as required or was that just PN getting their stuff out before the gauge conversion?
@Schony747
@Schony747 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure where the grain originated from. Either way it was a regular runner up.front.

Is the Maryborough - Ballarat - Geelong line being converted? Great vid. By the way! Riverina.

Sorry it's taken so long to answer but the short answer is yes. They need to sort out if it will be dual gauge or SG on it's own.

what will happen to all the broad gauge locomotives and rolling stock. Also I don't understand why Australia has so many different rail gauges
@Schony747
@Schony747 7 жыл бұрын
The different gauges goes back to the old colonial times before Federation in 1901. I suppose every state had their own ideas and didn't want the different states competing against their own railways. As for the rolling stock, I'm not 100% sure but I can only assume some will be converted to SG and others will be used on BG while reiting older locos such as X43 and X44.

Are most of the broad gauge lines being converted to standard?
@Schony747
@Schony747 7 жыл бұрын
A part of the Murray Basin Rail Project. Better track conditions and higher axle loads and better compatability to other standard gauge trains.

i think they forgot to use there sanders to get traction
@tobys_transport_videos

No loss of traction here, I can assure of that! I photographed it at Ballarat East then raced up to Warrenheip to do a video scene. I was standing beside @Schony747 when the last scene was recorded. What you can hear is the sound of the flanges on the wheels squealing against the rails.

Why is the train called fruity
@Schony747
@Schony747 7 жыл бұрын
It normally originates from Mildura and much of the train load is fruit, wine and other related food from the Mildura region for export. That's where it gets it's name from.
