BG3 | Solo Honour Mode | Halsin's Portal Defense | Ranger 8 / Warlock 1 Throwing Build

I nearly killed Halsin before the fight even started along with other mistakes. The core strategy was to Wall of Fire the area and cover the portal in Darkness Arrows so the enemies had move up and that part was solid.

STR 27 DEX 14 CON 19 INT 16 WIS 16 CHA 19
21AC Feats: Tavern Brawler (+1CON), Heavy Armour Master
Important Buffs: Cloud Giant Strength, Longstrider, Loviatar's Love, Bliss Spores, Shar INT/WIS/CHA buffs, Morninglord's Radiance, Dream Guardian Bless
Concentration: Wall of Fire
PreBuffs: Enhanced Jump, Scratch, Ice Mephits, Mirror Image, Oil of Combustion
Helm: *Holy Lance Helm
Cloak: Cloak of Cunning Brume (Fog Cloud on disengage, didn't use it)
Body: *Adamantite Splint Mail
Hands: Lesser Helldusk Gloves
Boots: *Boots of Striding (Prone Immune, can't be moved)
Weapon: *Blood of Lathandar
Shield: Adamantite Shield
Various throwing Weapons and Bombs
Ranged Weapon: *Titanstring Bow + Arrow of Many targets
Amulet: Harper's amulet
Ring: *Eversight Ring (Immune to Blind)
Ring: *Callous Glow Ring (2 Radiant Damage)
Items were integral to the strategy, the others could be swapped.

With all those buffs I bet you never sleep. It would be a crime to lose all of that. Thanks for posting this.

Yes that's correct - on this run I did not do any Long Rests between Level 6 and Level 10, and cleared most of the Creche, Shadowlands, Moonrise, and bosses after getting the buffs. Bliss Spores (from Underdark Myconids), Morninglord's Radiance (from Monastery puzzle), Dark Lady INT/WIS/CHA (from Shar shrine North of Moonrise), Bless (from Astral Prism Dream Guardian), Awakened (from Zaith'isk), Halfling Luck potion (from Araj), and a Cloud Giant Elixir (from Vendors). I think most Gloomstalker Ranger is one of the best classes to take advantage of not resting and keeping these buffs rolling a long time.

The weapon is lathanders light, a must have since it gives you sunbeam and it blinds all nearby undead.

All the build detail and gear is in the description, but let me know if you had any questions. What I thought were the most important items I marked with a star*. The consumables, such as Wall of Fire, Darkness arrows on the portal, Arrow of Many targets, and Void bulbs are doing a lot of work in this short fight so the build isn't super important apart from that it is pretty defensive and I don't lose concentration. That said it is a tavern brawler throwing character, throwing items from inventory even though I have Mace and Shield equipped.

Weird... how'd you lose initiative on that first turn to the wraiths and shadows? Seems like some odd glitch. I've never had that happen.

Yeah not sure, it says I got a '5' for initiative. I talked to Halsin in turn-based mode and I think the cutscene cancelled that

@@shadowvor the beginning of that fight is weird, because it starts out of combat, if that made any sense. I think I try to go turn-based as fast as I can after talking to Halsin, although it did look like you did that, but still the wraiths went first. How could a gloomstalker get a '5' anyway? I dont know your dex, but unless it is a 12... or maybe that is what it is.

​@@davidmills1520 Yeah I tried to hit turn based but it was a bit laggy and I was probably slow, I will try to hit turn-based mode faster in future. With 14DEX + Gloomstalker, surely my min initiative roll should be a 6.
