भारताचा मुख्य भूप्रदेशाचा अक्षवृत्तीय विस्तार 8° 4′ 28” उत्तर ते 37° 6′ 53′ ‘उत्तर असा आहे. भारताचा अक्षवृत्तीय विस्तार 29° 2’ 25” इतका आहे. भारताच्या अति दक्षिणेकडे इंदिरा पॉईंट हे निकोबार बेटावरील ठिकाण असून ते 60° 45′ 15” उत्तर अक्षवृत्तावर आहे. अक्षवृत्तीय विचाराचा प्रभाव तापमान, पर्जन्य दिवस-रात्रीच्या कालावधीवर पडतो.
भारताचा रेखावृत्तीय विस्तार 68° 7′ 33” पूर्व ते 97° 24′ 47” पूर्व इतका आहे त्यानुसार भारताचा रेखावृत्तीय विस्तार 29° 17′ 14” इतका आहे.
रेखावृत्तीय विस्तारामुळे सुर्योदय, सुर्यास्त व स्थानिक वेळ इत्यादी ठरतात.
भारताची प्रमाणवेळ 80° 30′ पूर्व रेखावृत्तावर आहे ती उत्तर प्रदेशातील अलाहाबाद या शहरावर निश्चित करण्यात आलेली आहे. हे रेखावृत्त भारताच्या उत्तर प्रदेश, मध्य प्रदेश, छत्तीसगड, ओरिसा व आंध्र प्रदेश या राज्यांतून जाते. या रेखावृत्त मुळे भारताचे दोन समान भाग पडतात. पूर्व भारत व पश्चिम भारत. तसेच भारताच्या मध्य भागातून कर्कवृत्त 23° 30′ उत्तर हे अक्षवृत्त पूर्व -पश्चिम दिशेने जाते. यामुळे भारताचे उत्तर भारत आणि दक्षिण भारत असे दोन समान भाग पडतात. हे अक्षवृत्त भारताच्या गुजरात, राजस्थान, मध्यप्रदेश, छत्तीसगड, झारखंड, पश्चिम बंगाल, त्रिपुरा, मिझोराम या 8 राज्यांतून जाते.

I think Afghanistan will include in South Asia But not in case of Indian subcontinent Because of both are different term.. Indian subcontinent is an Geological term and.. South Asia is an Geopolitical term...
