The Bhagavad Gita or the Gita Saar is widely revered as one of the greatest jewels of spiritual wisdom in the history of humankind. Bhagavad means “of God” and Gita means “song.” Hence, the Bhagavad Gita literally means “Song of God.” It describes the divine dialogue that took place between the Supreme Lord Shree Krishna and his devotee Arjun on the battle ground.
Unable to deal with the immediate problem at hand, Arjun approached Shree Krsna for a palliative to overcome the anguish he was experiencing. Shree Krishna did not just advise him on his immediate problem, but digressed to give a profound discourse on the philosophy of life. Hence, the Bhagavad Gita imparts, above everything else, Brahma Vidyā, the science of God-realization.
Bhagavad Gita describes clear-cut techniques for implementing its spiritual precepts for everyday life. Hence, the Bhagavad Gita is also called “Yog Shastra,” meaning, The the scripture that teaches the practice of Yog.
In this series, Swami Mukundananda reveals the original meanings of the Bhagavad Gita Quotes, Shlokas [Chapter 7, Gyan Vigyan Yog, Yog through the Realization of Divine Knowledge] with crystal clear explanations and perfect logic.
In this episode Swami Mukundananda explains verses 4 and 5 of Chapter seven of Bhagavad Gita.
भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च ।
अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा ॥
Earth, water, fire, air, space, mind, intellect, and ego-these are eight components of my material energy. ||4||
अपरेयमितस्त्वन्यां प्रकृतिं विद्धि मे पराम् ।
जीवभूतां महाबाहो ययेदं धार्यते जगत् ॥
Such is my inferior energy. But beyond it, O mighty-armed Arjun, I have a superior energy. This is the jīva śhakti (the soul energy), which comprises the embodied souls who are the basis of life in this world. ||5||

The Science has already been told by Shree Krishna 5000 years ago. Everything that exist is Shree Krishna's energy in different forms. And beyond all these energies is Spiritual energy. Yes, agreed! The demarcation between science and spirituality, especially when it comes to understating energy, is presented so beautifully by Swamiji. Even hard core scientists will be forced to accept that at some level, metaphysical aspects are just beyond the level of comprehension for the human (material) brain.

What I found so striking about this lecture was how Swamiji distinguishes between material and spiritual energies of God. Consciousness is an attribute of the spiritual energy of God, not a result of combination of chemicals and molecules. If we can understand this point, we will get in touch with our consciousness or the spiritual energy of God.

The presence of maya is evident through three qualities of the mind - Tamas (ignorance), Rajas (passion), and Sattva (goodness). At any given moment in time, the guna (mode) that is most prevalent is determined by the existing mental state. In the material world, we are confronted with situations that ignite the modes of ignorance and passion. Our own efforts to conquer maya will not suffice, thus we need the grace of God.

Shree Swami Mukundananda ji made it clear that how Shree Krishna was mentioning the unified theory by making the statement both the material energy and spiritual energy (souls) are part of God. In this segment, Swamiji has explained so beautifully why we need to always be cognizant that we are not the physical body but the soul and how when the soul departs, the body has no value. No matter who we were or what we accomplished, when the soul departs, the body has to be disposed one way or another. So why are we so attached to this physical body? Swamiji teaches us to recognize that our soul is the energy of God so let us nurture our soul while we have time on earth.

Swamiji describes how scientists discuss elements in terms of matter, force, energy, etc. Scientists throughout history have attempted to develop a unified field theory but could not do so. In this chapter, Lord Krishna explained to Arjun that everything in the material universe is his energy and beyond the material energy is the spiritual energy or the soul’s consciousness. Swamiji explains that this is the best way to unify the field theory which cannot be explained by scientists.
