Bhagavad Katha [Hindi] - Episode 1 of 5

In October 2012, Swamiji narrated Srimad Bhagavad Purana in Badrinath. In total there are five episodes. The original orator got sick and could not do the katha so Swamiji stepped in. He narrated the whole Purana from the beginning over four days. This episode was a preliminary introduction he gave on the Holy Purana. The narrative is in Hindi. Enjoy this discourse of 1 hour.

(1/n) Translation Below Vakra-Tundda Maha-Kaaya, Surya-Kotti Samaprabha। Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva, Sarva-Kaaryessu Sarvadaa॥ Victory to Lord Ganesha.. Victory to Lord Radha Krishna.. The Hymn that I am going to chant is not an ordinary hymn. First time Lord Shiv gave it to Devarishi Narad.. And the same Hymn Sri Krishna gave to Udhhav ji First, I will chant this hymn then expound on it’s meaning. Jitan-te-pundarikaksh-namaste-vishavabhavana Subrahmnaye-namaste-astu-mahapurusha-purvaja. Hey Vasudev Hey Sri Krishna.. You the are embodiment of pure knowledge... My obeisance to you repeatedly... Devanaam-danvanaam-chsamanyamasi-daivatam- You treat the good and the bad equally, you are not biased towards one. A Human differentiate between the good and the bad unlike God that’s why He is God. Sarvada charanvandam- brajami - sharanam-tavah I seek refuge in your feet Lord please do not abandon me. . Ekasya-tvamasi-lokasya-shrastha-sanhar-kastatha adhyakshchnumantha-chagunamaya-samavrita You are not just the Creator. You are the Sustainer and the Destroyer. You are it’s Chief and it’s Controller. Under you the whole existence is functioning. Sansarsagaram-ghoram anantam-kleshabhajanam Tvmaivsharanamhprapya-nistaranti-manishnah This world is ocean of endless affliction. I can sail through it, only by seeking refuge in your feet Lord. I don’t have that capability in myself. Tvmaivsharanamhprapya-nistaranti-manishnah Na te rupam- nachakaro- nayudhanihna-chaspadam. Tathapi-purushakaro bhaktanaam-tvamhprakashasi You neither have a form Oh Lord nor a place nor a seat nor science. Neither place nor Form But according to one’s bhava/sentiment you manifest yourself. If someone ask you to dance bare body for them. Will you do it? But that is why He is Lord. The way you pray to him he manifest according to your sentiment When one invoke Lord Shiv He comes in tiger’s skin. If one invoke God as Vishnu, he comes holding conch,lotus, mace & disc... That is why He is God. He is not made for himself. He is made for You. Naivekinchidproksham-te-pratyakshosi-nakasyacchit naivekinchidasadhyam-tesadhyosi-na-kasyachit Karinaam-karanam purvam-vachsaam-vachamam-utamum yoginaam-parmam-siddhim-parmamtepadamvidhuh What is hidden from you Oh Lord.. Nothing.. I am so ashamed.. How should I come to your door having committed so many sins What is hidden from the Lord? Nothing.. And you are not revealed to anyone. How peculiar is this? If you can recognize Him..it’s in the idol.. If one can’t recognize Him then one can’t find him anywhere! If one recognizes, God is in the idol, so many are lying there (pointing at one side of the discourse Hall) But If one can’t recognize He won’t find Him nowhere.. One is searching all over the place - he is going to Badrinath, to kedarnath, to jagannath.. But He is unable to search..Because he is searching where (Lord) it can’t be found. Karinaam-karanam purvam-vachsaam-vachamam-utamum Everyone has speech my Lord. What else one is doing, just speaking. Even I am speaking. But of all words you are the most beautiful speech. Because when God speaks.. One should listen not speak! The whole world is speaking, no one is listening to the other. That’s why such mess and grief is there in the world. Just because no one wants to listen to anyone. Everyone wants to be heard. Yoginaam-parmam-siddhim-parmamtepadamvidhuh You are the final attainment of the Yogis, O Lord! It all settle down to you O Lord! Ahambhitoasmi-devesh-sansaareasmin-mahabhaye trahimamhpundarikaksh- najaane sharanamparam I am very afraid inside, I don’t know how to live in this world. Do you know how to live in this world? I don’t know. I am telling my reality! Do you know how one should live in this world? Ahambhitoasmi-Devesh Oh Lord of the Lord, I am very fearful within me. Sansaareasmin-mahabhaye This world is endless ocean of conflict. The only thing I see is fear. I don’t know how should I live. Trahimaam... Please save me O Lord.. Save me from the danger. I don’t know any other’s refuge. Trhimam Pundarukaksha The one with Lotus eyes, Najaane sharanamparam Besides you, I know of no others refuge. Kaleshvapi-chsarveshu In three times.. Past present and future.. Dikshusarvasu-chachutya East West North South 4 diagonal and 2 directions above and below, in all ten directions Kaleshvapi-chsarveshu dikshusarvasu-chachutya sharireyapi-gato-chapi-vartate-memahadbhayam.. I am feeling very scared O Lord! This is the sentiment of a bhakt. He does not exert his towering attitude.. Bhakt is happy being His Lord’s servant. Tvadpadkamala-najanmantareshvapih namitam-kushlasyayasti-yengachamisashgatim-sadhgatim Except taking refuge in your Holy Feet I don’t see any other reason of my prosperity. Even in lifetimes or looking wide and far I can’t see a way through. Durgatavapi jatayaam.. This is the most beautiful line. Durgatavapi jatayaam tvamgatistvammatirmamah vadinathamch-veghyam-tavadtasmikritisadha Draupadi didn’t beg Duhshasan to stop the atrocities on her... She dared him to show his strength.. Show your strength!!! My Krishna will come for my rescue for sure.. So Devarishi Narad is speaking.. Durgatavapi jatayaam tvamgatistvammatirmamah.. It does not matter, what become of me Oh Lord! I am not saying to you oh Lord that resolve my issues.. I am saying whatever happens to me, you are my shelter alone... I seek to be in, ( and stay) in your holy feet eternally... Yadinathamch-veghyam-tavadtasmikritisadha... I don’t seek anything except that I may know you a little. Please don’t lure me, let me be in the condition that I am in... Whichever condition bring me closer to you. I want to stay in that emotion alone. I don’t need any other emotion to be in. Durgatavapi jatayaam tvamgatistvam-matirmamah yadinathamch-veghyam-tavadtasmikritisadha Akaamkalusham-chitam-mamah-tepadyosthitham kamaivaishnotamtu-sarvjanmasukevalam I don’t have anything for you O Lord except my heart full of desires and conflicts. Apart from that I have nothing to offer you. I have nothing O Lord to give except my conscious indulged in desires and conflicts. If I bow down my head that is also less as that is what you have given me. The faulty conscious that I have generated in my head is mine not yours. Apart form this I have nothing to offer. But just expect one thing from you. Just one, oh Lord. That in every birth I should not forget this, that I am to take refuge in your holy feet. Those who realize at/after 30 or 40 or 50 years of life that I should start to Live. Let me start taking holy names so much time has past by. It gets too late. And then one needs to take crash course - the short route in hurry. Devotee - Please tell the crash course. Swami ji - I will crash it (ego) itself and I will tell the course also. (Laughter) So we have bought Thakur ji name’s awareness in our mind.

(2/n) My opinion is if you know the meaning of every mantra or hymn. The joy of chanting increases manifold. That is why from the beginning whenever I say a mantra I believe in expounding on it’s meaning. So I will try now.. I have also come to hear (the Katha) not to narrate it.. So whatever (God) Thakur ji speaks we all will listen to.Let’s see what He says. It will take 5 to 10 seconds to warm up and be ready for Katha. (Chanting Om) Hey Mahamayi (Supreme Mother Divine) Narayan Narayan O Narayani who is the embodiment of sound (naad- invoking/remembering Mother Divine - as sound, in speech) Kabi na hou Na hi bachana prabInU| sakala kalA saba bidyA hInU || Kabit viVek ek nAhi mOore satyA kahU likhi kagAd kOre... I am not a poet that having sat on a high seat, I will entertain you. I am not proficient speaker. I know of none of the spiritual teaching. I am without any knowledge or skills of any kind. I have made the mistake, sitting on this high seat. Devoid of discretion and knowledge or poetic expression. I am telling core truth to you. I have vowed to be truthful. I always speak the truth . I can’t write such beautiful words.. Word are from Goswami Tulsidas ji Kabi na hou nA hi chatUr kahaU. MatI anUrupA Rãm gUn gau. I am not eloquent, whatever this mind is capable of, I am just saying that.. Nothing more.. Like when a child stutter, only the mother understand and only mother adores that language. So I am seeing only Mother Divine in you. No one else. Kabi na hOu nA hi chatUr kahaU. MatI anUrōpA Rãm gUn gau. KahĀ Raghupati kE chrit apArA, kahe mati mOori nIrat SãnsAra कबि न होउँ नहिं चतुर कहावउँ। मति अनुरूप राम गुन गावउँ॥ कहँ रघुपति के चरित अपारा। कहँ मति मोरि निरत संसारा॥ The One who is ever wise ever pure the Supreme God the Holy and ever pure. Will I commit such blunder to contemplate on him with my sullied mind? Should I describe him with my soiled mouth? कहँ रघुपति के चरित अपारा। KahĀ Raghupati kE chrit apArA There is no limit to his Glorious attributes.From where it begins and where it ends.. I know not of the earth leave alone the rest of the Universe. Aneka koṭi brahmāṇḍa jananī divya vigraha Many million Galaxies have been created. At Her one blink 14 Worlds are created. कहँ मति मोरि निरत संसारा॥ Kahe mati mOori nIrat SãnsAra A dirty drain’s insect has thought too highly of him. I am this or that. I am adorning an orche robe now I was a CEO I was a Director I am a sadhu now. I am sitting on high seat or a low one. - In this itself the whole world is entangled. I don’t know about you but I find myself entangled in this! कहँ रघुपति के चरित अपारा। KahĀ Raghupati kE chrit apArA You may have the ability to listen to the Katha. But I do not have the proficiency of narration.Every person knows their inner reality. So, Sri Hari who is presiding above, we are intending to narrates his Katha sitting on a distinct seat. May be Lord will forgive me. I have not read the scripture to that extent that is why I do not sit on high seat i.e. Vyas Peeth to narrate the legends of the Lord. So I just want to leave you with a sense of sentiment. Except that I have nothing.I have nothing except that, don’t expect anything else apart from that. So you have come here though you must have heard Bhagvad Katha appears on TV and other medium. Person want that bhakti should happen as per one’s own way. That is not possible. If you want katha to proceed quickly... And that, there be some amusing narration... What will we do knowing the essence! Why is the narrator struck to one couplet..He didn’t expound on this or that aspect of the Katha... If you know everything then what have you come to listen to? Your own rubbish? You can’t decide by yourself! What God wills, that would be narrated to you.You’d say He hasn’t told any context and straight up talking about devotion to Krishna! What is the essence of Bhagwad Katha? Is it anything else apart from Krishna himself? But you don’t want to listen to that! You want to do devotion/bhakti in your own way. No issue in that, do it your own way. But real devotion is in relishing in all forms of sentiment. Relish in all sentiment. That, it doesn’t matter, after all it’s our Beloved’s name - Krishna. That is what we have come to hear about. If we dye a white cloth, it would be coloured in first round. In second round the impression of colour will strengthen. Third and fourth time the colour will deepen. Do you want to immerse yourself or just hear the Katha from the surface. It’s your sentiment, it’s your wish to listen to the katha. No one can help you in this path. Two path are such.Two journey are such that are done alone. Of Death and second of Self-Realisation No one can accompany. Even willingly one can’t join you. I beg Sri Hari pardon that we are sitting here, but, Bhagwaan says.. Vedanam sama-vedo ‘smi Devanam asmi vasavah Indriyanam manas casmi Bhutanam asmi cetana I am mind (manas) in the senses. I am the consciousness among the elements. Who am I? Let the Lord speak as He speaks and all that you know please keep that knowledge aside. The greatest obstacle in one’s own growth is his knowledge.That he think he knows.No,it should be this way, not that way but other way. Assume if you come here having never heard Bhagvad Katha.Then you won’t have an opinion about the katha. Or ideology that the katha is going right or otherwise. You would find joy in what is being said. But if you have come, it is by Lord’s grace alone. Anyway this place (Badrinath) is place of Tapas. Bhagvad katha can be narrated in two methodology (Padhati). One is Vyas Padhati and another is Narad Padhati. Vyas Padhati is how Rishi Ved Vyas ji gave knowledge to Sukdev ji... There will be no music. How Vyas ji gave knowledge to Sukdev ji, Sukdev ji sat still day and night and received the knowledge. People of today’s time can’t receive knowledge like this. He can’t sit still for ten minutes receiving knowledge is very unlikely. And second is Narad methodology. What does Narad ji do always? He keeps his Veena (string instrument) with him. Music and devotional singing is the quickest way to reach the God. No one needs to apply brain or anything. That is why in all religion, music is inevitably there.. Whether it’s Bodhidharama, Sikhism, Christian or Islam. So to play music is not my Job that these people will play.(pointing at musicians sitting beside Him) But probably If you know the story of the legend that you’ve come to listen to, May be you would enjoy the katha more. One don’t enjoin by listening. It is just the state of mind. If you are joyful in you mind then you would stay happy. If you are not joyful in your mind then you would not be happy. The one who is ill, won’t enjoy no matter what. If he forget about his body’s pain only then he can rejoice.

(3/n) Srimad Bhagwad MahaPuran Essence of this puran is Lord Krishna, undoubtedly. In this Puran, Lord Krishna is said to be Maha Vishnu’s avatar. And Lord Krishna and MahaVishnu are told to be the same. But the question is not what is the meaning of this..that I will come upon in couple of minutes.The question is why did VedVyas ji created this puran. Ved Vyas ji was Rishi Parashar’s son. In those times Vedas were three in number. Rig-Saam-Yajur (Veda) So He told VedVyas ji to divide the Vedas in 4 part. In those times everything was confined to Three. Three Qualities - Three State (of consciousness) - Three worlds Bhu - physical realm Bhuvah - mental realm Swaha - spiritual realm So, Rishi Parashar told Vedvyas ji, Son, you divide the Vedas in Four parts. I have created distinct text on Tantra. I have done different type of Sadhana on Tantra. Those have not been enumerated in any Veda. If the common man do not know how to use something for themselves.Then how will they benefit from it? So, the Vedas enumerate numerous Hymns - 95,000 Mantra; 5,000 are in Atharv Ved.Total mantras are 1 Lakh i.e.couplets. We have given sadhana and knowledge in 95,000. But how to inculcate those values in life that is not written anywhere! So I desire that you should create the fourth Veda, as in my lifetime it could not be done. With the inspiration from his father, Vedvyaas ji created Atharvaved. Victory to Maharishi VedVyas ji. When something new arrives, people don’t readily accept it. So He didn’t find anyone who accepted Atharv Ved.Very few people did. So MahaRishi VedVyas ji himself started Devi Sadhana out of Atharv Ved. When Devi Sadhana was successful for Him. So first thing He said was, one thing (that happens) is budding of poetic expression. Which is called creativity in recent terms. So when grace of Lord descends, a new found skill sprouts. So where should he go with so much knowledge and energy. So He composed Mahabharata.The way it’s written in the Holy book, ( it's written that) Lord Ganesha himself wrote it with his own teeth. And Ved Vyas ji kept narrating it. So in Mahabharata also they say, there are 1 Lakh shlokas. Having written so much, once VedVyas ji was sitting unhappy.If anyone is feeling sad, one person reaches there anyway! Who? Narad ji. That’s it. Narad ji reached there.. And said Narayan Narayan.. Oh Rishi you are so sad..? If you would be so sad then what will happen to the common man? He replied - my mind is not at peace. A person can lie to the younger one and hide from those who are elders. But when one sits amongst one’s own then the real self speak out. Isn’t it? And then Narad ji asks in surprise - your mind is not at peace? Then what is left in the world then? You have composed Mahabharat. Divided the Vedas in four parts. And integrated the puranic legends. Prior to that. there were only two-three purana after the name of two or three Rishis like Markandeya Puran. They composed Shiv Puran, Linga Puran, Raghuvansh Puran. We would explore about them in the future. If you are sad then what hope are there for the entire world? If the author can feel like this then what can become of the reader? Then MahaRishi VedVyas ji says to Narad ji, I have told you my heart’s plight. Then DevRishi Narad ji said I know why you are feeling this way. So VedVyas ji said why are you delaying in telling me. Please tell me quickly. DevRishi Narad said you have written about Birth and Death and about Salvation and Sadhana. You've written about the elements. of the Vedas. Vedas (religious scripture) has 24 elements and Tantra (has 36 elements). So, you wrote about the 24 elements. And 36 elements of Atharv Ved. But the one who created this creation, you have not written about His Nature! Those who are dear to us, we desire to know about them. So the one who has created, if you have not written about him that implies you have not found your truth. Whatever you felt like you wrote it. Your father, Sage Parashar Rishi told you to divide the Vedas in 4 parts and you did it. The way Shankaracharya ji consolidated the religious text in his time. Same way Veda Vyas ji in his time did that.(divided Veda in four parts) So you will get peace by composing that which is your very own composition.Otherwise, to write Mahabharata, Saraswati Maa were narrating and Lord Ganapati was writing. As a result of the doing sadhana of Goddess of Speech (VaagVadini) What is your contribution in that? Bhagwad Gita was originally uttered by Lord Sri Krishna and you documented it. What is your contribution other than documenting it. So what is your own finding. So, in scriptures it is written, Vedvyaas ji first of all went in Sadhana again.The kind of Sadhana he never did before. Which one? Of Bhakti. Oh Lord! first I will understand you and then write about you. na me viduh sura-ganah prabhavam na maharsayah aham adir hi devanam maharsinam ca sarvasah (Ch10v2) Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and the sages ajam anadim ca vetti loka-mahesvaram (Ch10v3) He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginingless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds asammudhah sa martyesu sarva-papaih pramucyate (Ch10V3) Only He, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins. maharṣhayaḥ sapta pūrve chatvāro manavas tathā mad-bhāvā mānasā jātā yeṣhāṁ loka imāḥ prajāḥ (Ch10V6) The seven great Sages, the fourteen great Saints and before them the fourteen Manus, are all born from my mind. So how can they write about me? That is why VedVyaas ji name is not there in Sapt Rishis. Because the Seven Sages can't write about the Lord as they are Lord's children.Only Sri Hari can write about Sri Hari. The Lord gave all the knowledge in Bhagvad Gita. But how to arouse the sentiment. Who has uttered these words ( as in Bhagvad Gita) I used to write on a website, it didn't have my image on it. So many emails would come enquiring about the person who was writing. People wanted to see who was writing? Same way the one who gave the knowledge of Bhagvad Gita, Lord Krishna, heard/read so much of what He spoke. (curiosity arises) Who was that after all? About whom are we talking? So, in many purans, just the translation/commentaries is done. In many purans many fables and stories are there. Different people can't draw knowledge and interest from same text. So each person's state of mind is different. Some likes few Kathas/story very much and others don't like it. Some don't want to hear incidences (in scripture) but wish to just expound on the knowledgeable part of the scripture. That is why in Bhagvad Puran only Lord's Leela/ Lord's timepass are not given. In that Bhakti Yoga(Path of Devotion), Gyan Yoga(Path of Knowledge), Dhyan Yoga(Path of Meditation) all are expounded over. After giving knowledge to Uddhav, Lord Krishna said to him.."You have not found your own truth" You took knowledge from me. I told you how to practice meditation, how to do bhakti but it you want to do self-realisation then go to Barika ashram and do tapas. By tapas alone your buddhi (mind) will be able to understand me. Because the form of Lord can be realized by tapas alone, there is no other way. There are very less things in life for which I say there is no other way.. Very less.. because I feel there are always various ways to derive desired results in most pursuits. If you really want to break the temperament of the mind get established in Lord's sentiment, then there is nothing above tapasya or below it. Tapas doesn't mean you do the way Rishi Munis/Sages did - going to forest and sit in the cave. If you want to churn out the butter, once you have to churn with full force. If I churn the cream for two minutes every day, first place the butter (self-realization) will not come out and cream (life) will go waste as well. So at least once one has to do tapasya with full dedication/force. Whatever one does should do with full dedicated. One indulges in enjoyments of life to great extent. Saves and secure one's valued belonging dearly. If you really wants to self-realise and truly wants to rise above the mind and get established in Lord's temperament that is called Paramhans.

(4/n) If really you want to get to the stage where your temperament don't get better of you. That pleasures of life should not consume you but you consume them, for that you have to enslave your mind, you need to leave all that you have created as 'me'. All that you know as your 'self' needs to be abandoned/forgotten. What else was Raas Leela,it was just this, Gopis had to forget all about their individual selves, then can they be immersed in sentiment of Lord Krishna. What else it is to lose one's existence? What is more important to a lady than his lajja/shame. Isn't it? मान ते ग्यान पान तें लाजा।। प्रीति प्रनय बिनु मद ते गुनी। नासहिं बेगि नीति अस सुनी| Reason for a downfall sets in, for a good person with bad advice/ for a saint by attachment/ a love in which there is no respect /wisdom in which seeds of ego sets in and the way inebriation results in lose of shame. A downfall is natural for a virtuous person who gets egoist. So, by tapas itself everything is possible. Now, I don't want to give too much information. There is something called as spiritual indigestion, just to avoid that. But I want to tell you the meaning of Srimad Bhagvad, The way Thakur ji wishes for.. So that you know in whose glories you are basking. If you know, you are sitting in front of a distinguished person, you would deal with them differently. Not just anybody sitting in front. So when one knows about the value of scripture being discussed, the thought/desire of being able to hear all the incidents/events in the scripture will not bother you anymore. There is no end to the number of incidents in the scripture (Srimad Bhagvad) So, in Vishnu Sahasranam a line comes.. very beautiful.. If you pick one word from one event your life will be changed forever. Srivatsavakshah Srivaasah Sripatih Srimataam varah ||64|| Sridah Srishah Srinivasah Srinidhih Srivibhaavanah | Sridharah Srikarah Sreyah Srimaan Lokatrayaashrayah||65 || What is the meaning of Sri? Property, Happiness, Wealth and Refuge. Term 'Sri' has been carved out of 'Ashraya' or you can say other way around. So this is not just Krishna Puran, about Krishna or Vishnu Puran. It starts with Sri Puran. Mother's energy is already present in this Puran/Scripture.You can call that RadhaRani, Mahalakshmi or AdyaShakti. So, where Sri is present, where she stays. And the one who has divided the Sri, such a Lord is Sri Hari. As per his accord (mad of Srimad) is Bhgavad Puran. Bhagvad means; the one who is like danda is dandvat. ( danda-stick/ vad- like) The one who is like Bhagwaan is Bhagvad. Ved Vyasa ji writes and tells to Sukhdev ji.. Oh Sukhdev, this Legend/Puran is not an ordinary Puran, which you are going to hear.This is like Lord. It is Lord Himself. Only Lord can be "like Lord" not someone else. So, I shall start with the alphabet Bh.. Bhog - pleasure of the material world Bhojan - Food Bhajan - Hymn to remember the Lord Bharya - Wife Bhamini - Beloved (of the Lord) Bhakt - Devotee Bhagwaan - Lord Bhakti - Devotion If one just stick to Bh, there is a lot in it. Everything starts from Bh and ends at Bh. We have to dissolve in ashes i.e. Bhasma (ashes) at Bh. (Nothingness) One Bhoops, that is becomes emperor by rising to greatness at Bh. (Bhoopati- Lord of Land) So, Srimad Bhagvad Maha Puran. 5 action of Lord and 6 virtues of Lords are told, which are also called Bhag. In some scripture Bhag is divided. Bal - Strength Buddhi - Intelligence Virya - Vitality Tej - Excellence Aishwarya - Prosperity Shakti - Power Vigyan - Science/Knowledge/Knowing Srishti karthri Brahma roopa Gopthri Govinda roopini Samharini Rudhra roopa Thirodhana kari Eeswari Sadashivaa Anugrahada Pancha krithya parayana (264-274 Lalita Saharanama) Oh Lord you assume form of, Brahma for Creation, Vishnu for Preservation and Rudra for Destruction. You are the one who Conceal and Revive and provide Salvation. These are the five Duties/actions of the Lord : ‘Panchakritya’ So, only two kind of person can call him/herself as God. One, who actually is God and another who is not at all a God. The one who can make mockery out of the creation of the Lord. So, Lord Krishna has been the only one or very few are those who have declared themselves as God and said pray to me. sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śharaṇaṁ vraja ( Ch.18 V.66) Leave everything Oh Arjun why are you so tensed. I am in front of you, why are you running from pillar to post. So, this only 'that one' can say who is actually Lord Himself, who can show you his Vishwa Swaroopa (Cosmopolitan/Universal) form.(as grand as the creation itself), who can save Druapadi in fully assembled court, who can grant Gift of life (to the dying), who can take the precious jewel (off the head) of Ashwatthama (in the battle of Mahabharat), who can defeat the humongous army of Kaurava by himself (in Mahabharat). And the one who is not God at all would say, we will see when the time comes. So, what is the meaning of Srimad Bhagvad Maha Puran. One everybody must know Puran means puratan i.e. ancient. But the meaning does not end here. This body is called city of 9 gates. kavim puranam anusasitaram anor aniyamsam anusmared yah sarvasya dhataram acintya-rupam aditya-varnam tamasah parastat (Ch8V9) That one, who the wise one knows about. Whose presence is in every atom. Everyone knows that (his omnipresence) but it can't be seen. If you want to see you have to do tapasya, I can't show it to you. I can tell you the path, can walk you through each step. Small child can't be given complex directions. He will get lost. At the most one can guide him two steps ahead on the way and then can give further guidance. If you seek anything less than God I have no interest. And if you seek something more than the Lord I don't know of that path. If you want to Lord than I can tell you. If you want Samadhi I can tell of you want Darshan I can tell. If you want couple of experiences I can give. It won't bring about anything! The Puran which you are going to listen to, listen it the way it is been narrated. It's (given the way its given) as per your fate. If you seek more knowledge. Pick up the scripture, read it, contemplate on it and study it. But don't increase your bad karma by thinking it is not katha that is going on. It should have been like this way or that way. Sitting in Badrinath Dhaam/Pilgrimage, don't create bad karma. If you don't have shraddha, get up and go. I am sitting till the time He is narrating the Katha. ( pointing at the Vyas Peeth in discourse Hall) On one side one says the one who is speaking is Lord himself. And when S/He is speaking then you say we don't want to hear that. He is not moving past one couplet. Do not think so highly of yourself that you know it all. (Don't sit with this temperament that) We have heard lot of Bhagavad Katha and this is not the way to do the katha. Alright, there is a methodology, but its by the grace of God that we are getting to hear the katha, What we will receive, we will accept it like prasad (Blessings by God) So many times we got to hear name of the Lord Krishna, who shed one tear hearing his name? If you regard yourself as devotees then why didn't you shed tears? Who knew the secret of the feather? I didn't know. ( not discussed during recorded discourse) See, when a person is specialized in one subject as in PhD, I haven't done it though. So in that you focus on just one subject. But the kids are taught all subjects English Math Hindi Punjabi. If you want to be a child then Vyas ji is not for you. For that you can turn on Sanskar TV channel, listen to it for 30 min take a refreshment break and repeat. It may be, that at the end of coming seven day (of katha) you take away just one essence. But the one who has only one is successful. Those who have two is always in a fix. If one is in fix then you would be struck. If a person knows too much they have a sense of false self-sufficiency. And if you are struck with sense of knowing then there will be conflict. Two people rigid in their opinion are bound to be in conflict. If you stay in conflict, you would stagnant in your growth. Neither should we be in conflict or arrogance or rigidity or stagnation. Just focus on one thing. What? Stay course in Self- purifying (through Tapas) Only through self purification you would self-realize. Irrespective of how many numbers of books you read yada te moha-kalilam buddhir vyatitarisyati tada gantasi nirvedam srotavyasya srutasya ca (Ch.2V52) sruti-vipratipanna te yada sthasyati niscala samadhav acala buddhis tada yogam avapsyasi (Ch.2V53) Arjun, this mind of your is faulty, corrupted, distorted, polluted and dirtied and it is doused now. You are thinking that You are very wise? yada te moha-kalilam buddhir (Ch.2V52) It is diverted. The poor guy accepted the flaw of cowardice by himself ( at the onset of Mahabharat Battle). Your mind is diverted because you have read too much. sruti-vipratipanna te yada sthasyati niscala (Ch.2V53) You have studied too much right? You were preaching the Lord too much. That it should not be this way but that. Women will destroy the family (Ch1V41) Why should we have the battle etc.. The day you will establish yourself in Yoga that day your mind (buddhi) will settle down. Then you would know for real that what is the Truth. Right now you are speaking someone else's words. You tell me what is your discovery? You celebrate birthday party. Though your parents had taken the pain and given the birth why are you so jumpy about celebrating the day.

(5/n) Everybody wants to take pleasure. But Bhagvat katha is not the katha for amusement. Why is it not the katha for amusement? Tell me. You tell me in which incarnation of God did the society gave them happiness. With what face do you celebrate Krishna Janmaashtami/Ram Navami / Vaman Dvadashi. What have you really done for your God? You say - "We have made you 56 kind of offerings for you bhagwaan which ultimately will be consumed by us anyway!!! Somebody's pain is story for you. And you are wishing that, in that story we should rejoice and take happiness. And listen to various stories therein? There's are 8 types of (siddhis) clairvoyance. If Mother Divine wills I will talk about them. So in Vamana incarnation, when Lord transformed his body from small to giant one. Do you think that didn't hurt Lord's body? Bhushano bhushan (?) . . The one who is King of the kings. Who is Yogi of the yogis. The supremely Modest Being Sri Ram came and slept on floor. In two days you are done with sleeping on the floor here (Badrinath) With two mattress also you are feeling cold. Lord is sleeping on the floor (exile) and you are celebrating birthday (Ram Navami) You have come here to feel joyous listening to the katha. Try to look into your heart and figure how painful it would've been for Krishna's soft hands, when he grazed the cows. So romantically we describes how He grazed the cows. Have you ever done it? I have stayed close to cows so I have very little experience. When one has to pick the cowdung and face the stirring dust, all romance would be forgotten! cow dust (go-dhuli) sounds very nice.. Seeing an ascetic in the forest is very nice but what do you have to say about mosquitoes, snakes and rats! Tell me how one enjoys doing sadhana (tapas) then. That Sri Krishna whose feet, if touched the body of another would develop boils. He, leave alone feet, what did he held in his hands? A Whip? And became a charioteer (of Arjun in the Battlefield of Mahabharata) .. And you say we want to take joy in listening to His katha? It's very easy to listen to the legends of the incarnation. Somebody else's pain is story for you. If you really are immersed in Krishna you won't be able to hear this out. Then you would turn of the TV for good. (The devotional channels) How can you hear it? Can a mother listen to her child's pain? If once someone obliges one to hear, so that one is aware what happened. That's all. You can't hear it twice. So you have set yourself to listen to the legends of God! Hari Ananta Hari Katha Ananta The Almighty knows no boundaries, and so are the tales of the almighty". One whose riches and Grandeur knows no limit, you feel capable of listening to His stories? Not a simple feat. In one week, if you grasp even one essence (out of the katha) then consider yourself supremely fortunate. And if there aren't any takeaway then consider yourself fortunate of all. Because if you are not taking away anything then you must have given away something. Because each individual think of himself as very smart and skilled trader. Let me take or give something as well, as I have come so far to listen to katha, isn't it? My guess is, in the next one week, the one who is seated on Vyas Peeth. Whatever they speak by the will of the Lord we will listen to it wholeheartedly with devotion. Their work is to narrate ours is to listen. That which is not in our destiny, who can give that to us? All that I have spoken about Vedv yaas ji has been written nowhere in any scripture.I can pledge on that. That which the narrator wants to tell, will tell you anyways. The one who is seeking has already got. I have already uttered the MahaMantra yesterday. Everybody is hell bent for one thing - Initiation! But the one who wants to grasp/absorb doesn't need more than an indication. If a student doesn't want to study any number of tuitions won't help him study. He will still fail. Isn't it? The one who wants to study can study without any help. Of course right guidance does take one very forward. In real terms my effort would be to just give a guidance. Nothing more than that. The one who guides is the Lord himself. Not me. I don't give so much self-importance. So by his grace alone you would be guided. Those who sit with sentiment will get a vision in the dream within seven day. That's my word. Those who are not in sentiment won't fetch anything neither in 70 or 700 days or even in seven lifetimes. This is much I can say to the Mother Divine and Bhagwaan, that please Mother give a vision in dream. Please reveal them what's it like (the darshan). And it's doesn't take any of my efforts. But what will change with that? If God manifest in front of you, what is the most you can do? Offer Obeisance. What did Prahlad do? Enjoyed his kingdom. What did Dhruv did? Enjoyed his kingdom. And Surath and Samadhi (from Durga Saptshati) They did what they felt was right. Even if one self-realises one has to inevitably continue doing their work. Once someone asked me before self realization a person's routine is to chop wood and fetch water. That's the principle of life. After self realisation also same thing continues. One fetch woods,eats and cleanse etc what has changed? I said nothing changes.Who said to you that something changes! But a outlook and perspective is changed/found anew for good. And the example that you have given is of the body, not of the mind. There is a lot before that. Mind doesn't let you rest. Eat this or that.Go there or come here. Do this or that. Mind just never stay quite! It is not just chop the woods and fetch water. The mind (manas) distract in several different ways. 60,000 thoughts in a day. But after self realization it says nothing. It says what you would like it to speak. Somebody was asking me what is sadhana. This is sadhana. Whichever thought you wish for, comes to your mind alone. It would stay till the time you want it to and when you don't want it, it leaves and never comes to your mind! That means mind is yours. Otherwise you are slave to mind. Just the way Vyas ji was saying. The way fragrance can't be separated from rose. Thoughts can't be separated from mind(manas). Soul and mind (manas) can't be separated. What else are the afflictions of the mind. This mind (manas)is what one needs to know and understand and then master over. That's it. And mind (manas) is like a small child. Please understand this correctly. It is not an idol which can be shattered into pieces. The curse of the Rishi shattered the stone and destroyed the entire race. (Mausala parva refer Google) Even after the stone was shattered, the entire race still whipped away. So you can't break the mind. It's not Hari Om Tatsat. Its Hari Om - Tahasnehas (overhaul/shatter one's temperaments/ afflictions). You have to destroy all that you know about yourself and then a new you would be born Otherwise you would keep wandering. If you want to keep yourself engaged in your little world. That's alright but then don't crib/cry (for the highest.) If you are happy in your world then stay happy. There are no worries. The why are you wasting mine,your and other's (pointing at seat of Vyas ji) time. No need to come here. If you are happy in the world then stay happy. The point is to remain joyful. The path of devotion is such that a person remain happy in any given time and every situation. That's the only difference. If you can be happy in every situation then know it that you have realized God. Whether you got the vision or not. Saw the Divine light or saw the live manifestation. Held the God or not. Touched or didn't touch. If you are happy in every situation. If the other person can't influence you with their mannerism and speech. That means you have realized the God. God is nothing else except that. maunam caivasmi guhyanam jnanam jnanavatam aham(Ch.10V.38) God says Of secret things I am silence (that keeps the secret), and I am the wisdom of the wise. Nothing else, apart from this. So I shall not say more. It must be time.So shall we listen to some devotional songs? Or not? Do you all want to rest? Devotee-No, let's hear. Alright. We have such talented musician with us. Say this together.. Victory to Lord Sri Hari. Victory to Lord Radha Krishna. Victory to Badri Vishal bhagwan. *A very very beautiful introduction to read about the Author of Srimad Bhagvad and about the Srimad Bhagvad Puran itself:* Shrimad Bhagwatam is the most sacred books of the Hindus. It gives a tremendous insight, a profound vision, and an entirely new perspective to the person who hears the narrative. On hearing, a person is never the same. There is a complete metamorphosis, a complete transformation, literally a new birth. Atman (soul) by it’s own nature is sovereign - it cannot by nature be bound - whatever bondages felt are sheer illusions of the mind. Shrimad Bhagwatam provides that light which enables Jeeva (human being) to experience the wonderful freedom of liberation. One feels, “Yes, I am free!” Shrimad Bhagwatam expresses this philosophy through the narration of the life stories of 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Amongst these, the tenth volume of the Shrimad Bhagwatam narrates in infinite detail, the story of Lord Krishna. Since all 24 incarnations are of Lord Vishnu, it is a vitally important scripture for the Vaishnavas. Written by Sage Ved Vyasa the Bhagwatam leaves no topic untouched - social, political, and economic systems - all these have been covered and commented upon by him. Not just issues relating to self-liberation but even our day-to-day problems have been effectively resolved in Shrimad Bhagwatam. Hence it can be emphatically stated that Shrimad Bhagwatam is an exposition, which explains human life very clearly, it is a direction leading to the ultimate liberation of the soul. It is therefore an important guide for the conduct of human beings in all their affairs. Ordinarily, reading and listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Saptah Katha is a 7 days long Anushthan (a religious commitment), but even an entire lifetime may not be enough to understand it in depth and explain it to others. It is such a wonderful, sublime scripture but King Parikshit had only seven days to live and it is said that by listening to such a 7 days narration of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, King Parikshit attained liberation! Not by death but by emancipation from ignorance and fear. Thus Shrimad Bhagwatam liberates us from fear, problems, and ignorance. In essence, this is the crux of Shrimad Bhagwatam. Content wise, it comprises three main dialogues or principal conversations - one that of Shukadevji and King Parikshit, second between Sutji and Shaunak and other Rishis at Naimisharanya and the third between Vidurji and Maitreya on the banks of the river Ganga. These three principal conversations convey the voluminous Shrimad Bhagwatam beginning and ending with the dialogue between Sutji and Shaunakji and other Sages. This four quatrain (8 verses) of Shrimad Bhagwatam was voiced by Lord Narayan and heard by Brahmaji as narrated in the second volume. Brahmaji then narrated the same four verses (shlokas) to Narada who in turn conveyed to Sage Ved Vyasa but told him that this was only formularized, now expand it’s (Vyasa) purview. The seat from where such knowledge is expounded and explained in detail is called ‘Vyas Peetham’. For this very reason we call the narrator of Shrimad Bhagwatam, ‘Vyas’. It is more a qualitative noun than a personal noun. Thus Vyasa elaborated the four shlokas (verses) in 9000 verses spread over 335 chapters and 12 volumes. Then Bhagwan Ved Vyasa taught it to Shukhdeva, who then narrated it to King Parikshit. Sutjii in Namisharanya to Shaunaka and other Rishis conveys the same conversation. All the different periods of these separate conversations are mentioned in Shrimad Bhagwatam. The narration of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha is arranged for many reasons; raising funds to help medical institutions or provide medical relief to people affected by natural calamities, to fund and raise school/colleges and help rural development. But it is mainly arranged for the upliftment and welfare of the people and society, who, by listening to the katha would understand God and learn the way to reach him, helping inducing spiritual growth within themselves and most importantly becoming righteous and virtuous human beings. In the olden days it was primarily arranged when there was a death in the family. Amidst the encircling gloom of sadness and acute depression, the katha narration created a major transformation, bringing to a grief ridden family solace, comfort, equanimity and a philosophic vision. The Bhagwat Katha drew them out of their sorrow and removed them from their mourning. Therefore the Bhagwat Katha is described as “Shoka Moha Bhayapaha”, that which destroys attachment and consequently removes sorrow and fear. By listening to ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Katha’, devotion (Bhakti) pervades our heart and minds. This devotion destroys attachment, sorrow and fear from our minds. What is this devotion or ‘Bhakti’? It is nothing but love! Love is a sublime experience. It moves and spreads in all directions and becomes universal. When love becomes unending, human beings attain sainthood. The body becomes a temple - and the heart a priest! Slowly, but surely Shrimad Bhagwatam enables one to reach that stage. When universal love and devotion is attained, the sorrow, attachments and fear vanish. Sorrow or mourning is connected with the past; attachment is connected with the present and fear with the future. These are the three factors that disturb everyone. Mourning the past, attachment for the present, and fear or worry for the future. And who does not long for peace? Whether a person is a theist or an atheist, everyone longs for peace. Everyone wants joy. When these three dominant influences vanish, one becomes quiet and lucid. It is not that Shrimad Bhagwat Kathaliberates the departed soul alone. It even frees surviving members from sorrow, attachment and fear. Thus liberation is in a wider concept. It is not as if one is liberated only after one dies. It can be experienced even during a person’s lifetime, now and here also. That is the teaching of Shrimad Bhagwatam. Shrimad Bhagwat Katha for Pitra Moksha/Shanti (Gaya Bhagwat) According to the Glory of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana, ‘Dhundhukari’ did not achieve salvation for his sinful action when he died. Although his younger brother (A great devotee and Profound Scholar) Goukarna Maharaj had offered ”Pinda-Daan” in Gaya ji (Holy city), nevertheless Dhundhukari became Prait (evil spirit). Then Lord SUN declared to Recite Bhagwat Katha for the liberation of the Prait (Dhundhukari). Since then, The Bhagwat Mahapurana is known as Mukti Granth (Scripture of salvation). That is why we should offer Bhagwat Katha to our Ancestors/Forefathers. In the persent age of Kaliyuga no religious action is as divine as Shrimad Bhagwatam because it makes a man entirely liberated from the bondage of Prait origin.
