I think Maharshtra has THE Best stage actors. The Tamil Drama industry(once great and now near-dead) drew lots of inspiration from Marathi theatre. Vi Sa Kandekar(i dont know if a H is missing !) was a role-model writer in those days. After the Dravidisation of TN politics they lost BOTH: what they got from others and what they had!

Ex-punekar here- living in the Bay Area for the last several years. Marathi mandal president for that age group, condo mortgage payments, marathi natak in the mandal are all right on points. I would highly recommend dude to move back. Grab that empty “flat” opposite the gal’s house, frequent the khadakvasla beach, enjoy the Vaishali dosa and live happily ever after. Sr. Guy can join an online marathi mandal and quench his thirst for mandal leadership. My 2 c/Unsolicited advice.

In Pune we call it नदी आलीकडचे व नदी पलीकडचे. नदी आलीकडचे means deccan Gymkhana, JM road, Ferguson road, Vaishsli..all posh area.. नदी पलीकडचे means सदाशिव , नारायण मधल्या चाळीत राहणारे.drastic difference! fun fact: people from sadashiv ,narayan have migrated to kothrud when it was new..😃
