We don't stop to think how companies can afford to sell groundnut oil at 200 rupees (profit margin included), while a kilo of good groundnuts itself costs about 150 rupees. It is nice to see so much care has been taken in selection of the oil seeds before pressing by Saptam. The solvent question asked is however easily answered and Not a secret. Most of the industrial oil extraction facilities use Hexane, a petroleum distillate as solvent to extract the oil. Wooden press or even screw pressed oils can handle only rich oil seeds like ground nuts, Til,(sesame), Niger (Huchhellu), Copra, Mustard etc. But oil seeds like soya bean or rice bran which have low oil content cannot be used in the wooden or even screw presses. They have to be extracted by solvent extraction or else we need not use these oils. Yes, big oil mills do add chemicals to remove some undesirable constituents like gums and fatty acids which can spoil the oil when stored for long periods. In any case none of these chemicals including the solvent will be present in the final refined oil. The nice thing about cold pressed oils is that they have the characteristic smell of the oilseed and impart a nice flavour to the food. Refined oil is without any colour or smell and adds no smell to the food. But the cold pressed oilseed cake still contains a good amount of unextracted oil that can be further extracted or sold at a high price as feed to animals. Some of the cake also used as food.

He is exactly correct..none of the refined oil companies are able to confidently say that their oil is pure and free from chemicals. If there are not doing anything wrong, they can be transparent and with confidence they would have come in public domain.
