He’s calm and composed, some might say slow, but if you look at what he does he’s actually slowing play down. Incredible on and off the ball ability. High defensive work rate, great at dueling and actually won more duels than anyone on the Arsenal XI yesterday. And it wasn’t a one off, look at his performance at the Bridge. He has fantastic link ups with Trossard when he’s on the left but still moves centrally enough to link with Ode and Saka. He’s got decent passing, just a little bit more improvement there and improvement with his shooting ability and he’ll be world class.

He isn't at the club because of his blistering pace or his "off ball ability" he's at the club because he reads the game brilliantly, can see "passes on" that nobody else sees and then completes them accurately. Mikel Merino always intrigues me. If you don't take note of what he's doing, more often than not, you'd never rate him very highly. *But just watch him.* He's doing nothing fancy. He just always seems to be in the right position at the right time. He does his _"thing"_ on the pitch quietly. That aside. A good performance against Forest.
