@ProPreacher I think you need to read the Jewish Stone Tanakh it is in English and go listen to Rabbi Tovia Singer. Preaching is not the answer.

How do you get a topic to preach on? I mean I'm waiting on the Lord and have different inspirations that come to mind, but I find myself agonising over whether this is what God wants the people to hear and if I'm missing it? Some tips would be great.

God bless, brother! Question... I've wrestled with that text that you mentioned (Acts 6:2-4). Honestly, doesn't that text apply to the 12 Apostles and not modern day pastors... Would not the modern day pastors be those "disciples" that the text mentions...

Good question. The way I see it, there are many pastors who will work in the role of “serving tables” and that’s a wonderful and necessary thing. But those who have been charged with the responsibility of preaching ought to focus on preaching and delegate ministry responsibilities to other disciples. The larger the church, the more necessary this becomes (as we see happening in Acts 6 as the church grew). However, please don’t hear me saying that pastors should not serve, shepherd, and minister to their congregation. They simply shouldn’t do it alone, and shouldn’t neglect their calling to preach because they are slammed with the demands of serving people. We need to spread the responsibility around, and disciple others to join us in the work of ministry. Hope that helps
