it's naive for the RB to lower interest rates then get annoyed when people use it to speculate on property. if there is a way to make money people will do it, capitalists don't care about 'ethics' there is no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism. the government need to regulate to stop our property from spiraling into an unsustainable bubble. its already too late for this in my opinion anyway. i've just come back from asia and first thing i notice about nz is lack of development, everything feels tacked on as an after thought in terms of our infrastructure. we don't build with long term growth in mind. nz needs to grow up and realise we're not a small pacific island country anymore, we're growing rapidly and need to build for that.

try to explain that to the current bunch.

It wasn't the interest rate cuts that should be scrutinised here - that was necessary to keep people employed. The huge mistake Orr made was simultaneously removing LVR restrictions for home loan origination. And he's now acting confused that people pumped all that new cheap debt into the only investment class that gives normal people the benefits of leverage, and zero tax on your profit?

Infrastructure would be good, water, sewage, hospitals, schools, housing, parks, rest stops, solar, trains, public transport and holes through hills. But it ain't easy and mostly too long term to be vote winning ...

Dropping interest rates during a pandemic and lockdowns was only going to buy houses. Nobody would buy a business during a pandemic and lockdowns.

The irony of it is, those (people and businesses) who took advantage to disadvantage everyone else are usually the first to grizzle about others "sucking on the teat" of welfare.

Orr dropped LVRs in March 2020 giving investors double the equity they can draw on. Thats why investors went insane buying. Not a word about it. The same guy dropped the ocr from 2.5% in 2015 to 1% in 2019. For no reason, disgusting. Orr and wheeler were property spruikers

You can't make money by working and the share market is risky. Do the math, Housing is the obvious choice.

People in New Zealand looking to make big money fast buy and sell houses getting the capital gain or they sell P.
