Ektara comes from two word EK & tara. Ek=One & Tara

The one string instrument is called Ektara. In Bangla Ek means one and Tar means strings. Therefore Ektara literally means The instrument having one string. This instrument is commonly used by the Bauls of Bengal. Bauls are a religious and cultural group of Bengal, best known for their songs and poems to the god who dwells within. The term "Baul" is usually understood to mean "madman" or religious ecstatic, and Bauls often describe themselves as crazy for God.

Bangladesh is ethnically/culturally, and linguistically far more similar to India than Pakistan. And Pakistan itself emerged from India. So, if we talk about the origin of this type of music, it is India, not Pakistan. However, the folk music that you get here hails from the greater region of Bengal (that Bangladesh is/was part of), which is why it's Coke Studio Bangla, not just Bangladesh :)
