I have a 2019 Daphne Blue Jackson SL4X Soloist and I had nothing but issues with the cheap Floyd Rose Special tremolo. Then I replaced the locking nut with a Floyd Rose FRTINR3 Titanium Locking Nut, the saddle locking blocks with Titanium ones, and the saddles and mounting + locking screws with Stainless Steel ones ... and it finally worked. Here is my advice : if you put Stainless Steel screws on a cheap Floyd Rose tremolo base plate (cheap metal) NEVER OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, otherwise you're going to strip the threads off the cheap metal plate, and as far as I know Floyd Rose doesn't sell tremolo base plates as spare parts. As usual, great video, great playing, great left hand technique ! Have fun, play loud !

"IF YOU'VE GOT A LIMP FUCKING WHAMMY BAR YOU CAN EAT MY FUCKING ASS!!!" That's metal. I personally like to have my whammy bar nice and stiff and positioned right where I'm going to need it when the time comes to put it to use. That's one reason I prefer Kahlers. Go around the back of that bridge and make sure that the bolt that plugs the whammy bar hole and holds the clip spring is nice and tight. If it's not it'll prevent the tightening collar on the front side from working properly. Something I found out about from _my_ Charvel with one of those oriental licensed Floyd Rose setups.

Well I laughed for about 10 min. about the limp whammy bar and eating your ass, I was dying. Here is a tip from a Floyd Special owner of many (4 of them). Pull it back out and wrap some teflon tape or any type of thin tape and put it back in. It will help, but it is just a band aid for the problem. You can take it all apart and replace it with a push in model part, if you can find the replacement parts for that part of the tremolo. Great content. I will never forget this episode.

I was munching on a Twinkie in between writing a song and figured I’d stop and tell you how to fix that in about two or three minutes on your Whammy bar. The surfaces just don’t know each other very well yet tighten it up just a little and spin it around in a circle then tighten up a little more and spin it around in a circle. Keep doing that till they get nice and flat and it’ll stay put. P.s Pretty cool you’re trying to bring back the chorus on Guitar again

Hi Kayla: I have original versions of both. My Stagemaster is from the first gen, which was 86-88ish. It had several layout options and the Floyd Original was not recessed. The current guitar is based off the second gen version. The up down 5 way is similar to the Richie Sambora model and the Floyd was recessed. These models never sold that well, sadly. The Soloist started really around 1984. What made it a Jackson instead of a Charvel was that it was neck through. 84-85 they came standard with a Kahler unless you special ordered the Floyd. Once the company moved, they switched to Floyd’s and ditched the 3 mini toggle (just like early Stagemasters) layout for a 5 way in the late 80s. The early Student editions came with an unbound Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays. I have an early 85 Student edition in Ferrari Red with a Kahler.

If you like the Jackson and want to keep it I would recommend you upgrade the trem. The Specials are pretty atrocious. I just swapped the Floyd Rose 1000 in my Solar V1.6DVV for a Gotoh GE1996T. The Floyd worked fine, but I prefer The Ibanez Edge trems and Gotoh also makes the Ibanez trems so there's some similarity. It's very reasonably priced at most retailers at around 150$. It also drops right into the existing Floyd Rose route. The trem posts differ and the bushings are thicker, so if you want to swap the posts you need to remove the old ones and drill out the holes for the new ones. However, you can keep using the original trem posts. You might need to replace the string lock screws though, since the Gotoh ones are longer and might hit the top of the body at the edge of the trem route. However, you can just get some Schaller or Floyd Rose lock screws and that fixes the issue without having to expand the route. Alternatively you could upgrade it with a Schaller Lockmeister, which is basically an OFR without the Floyd branding. Same manufacturer, cheaper than a Floyd but more expensive than the Gotoh.

The floyd special vs the floyd 1000 is night and day, my pacers have floyd specials but by the time im done modding the only original piece is the baseplate, the 1000 i havent modded at all, ive tried the soloist and i couldnt mesh with it, it was mainly the neck itself, i settled on a jackson dinky, but my kramer sm1-h im absolutely in love with it, it doesnt stay on my rack but in the case until im ready, the dinkys and my pacers stay on the rack.

I have preferred Jackson as a style and brand since the mid 90s and I own more of their MIJ guitars from the 90s-00s than any other guitar. Any Kelly variation is my main guitar. But in today's market Kramers are great to buy used and mod. I try not to pay over $800-1200 for a guitar, and I can upgrade anything on a guitar that is not wood or paint. No reason to buy new. Gear prices are insane and the features are underwhelming. At this point one buys just because one knows in 5 years the prices will be even more ridiculous.
