What I've noticed about a lot of BHS stores is that their refurbs never went far enough, and so many still either had the 90s "signature" (Bhs) logo or the 80s "flying H" (BhS) on the frontage. There's also intact signage on doors and backstage areas from the "flying H" era, like the health and safety signage that's all blue with a white strip and symbology, and red and white signs indicating restrictions. The restaurant sign must be even older, possibly dating back to before the Conranisation of BHS, which saw the "flying H" being introduced.

Hi Beno. Yeah the good Departmentstores are closing. Here in Germany (Nuremberg) is that like Quelle. It was a big Store with 6 or more Floors With good Lifts and Escalators.

Most BHS stores don't look like they've ever been refurbished since the 1980s. My local one was on 2 floors, downstairs was the main sales area and upstairs was an 80s looking restaurant and it had some rather long escalators going up to it. I don't think it had a lift. I think there might have been a service lift though but I don't know what type it was.
@benolifts11 ай бұрын
Most of them had not been refurbished at all and had a 1970s interior. The lights, lifts and other fixtures in the shops were usually from the 70s. Going in BHS was like going back in time, similar to going in Alders and Co-op department store.

we have a wilko in Plymouth and exeter, there was a caged door lift that went from the car park into the shop in Plymouth, idk if it still there but think it might enter the sainsbury's above, i miss our co-op (derrys) was amazing, had some proper express lifts, sadly now a student block, our debenhams building is still standing empty of 4 floors, that you been in yourself in a old video when it was open, our house of fraser of 5 floors is the only department store left

Most of the HOFs on the chopping block are too big for FG's strategy, and the leases on those are unfavourable. Not to mention that some have been slated for redevelopment anyways, with Reading's HOF being turned into a bowling alley and TK Maxx.

The situation concerning Department stores is depressing. I really want to support the few ones remaining but the prices are ridiculous and the previous features like an included restaurant or food section are often gone

Yes, there soon won't be any department stores left. I'm rather surprised John Lewis is still going. Those photocopiers were very likely packaged up to be sold.

The abandoned printers are Konica Minolta Bizhub c203 printers from around 2000 and would have been rental printers, they would have been due to be returned to the rental company but either written off and abandoned by them or locked inside the building with no expectation of retrieval at the time bhs went out of business, I noticed the pat test stickers on them and the 2015 date on the last inspection of the old style emergency light battery cabinet in that small room as well (I was sure BHS went out of business before 2015) but that must have been the last year of trading. There's an abandoned BHS on Sauchiehall street in Glasgow that is in a serious state of decay and an eyesore, with a lot of the city centre in a deliberate state of deterioration due to the council, it will very likely be demolished along with most of the rest of the street soon to make way for the luxury student flats that they are filling the city with as it's becoming a city of mostly wealthy international students these days. Thanks for the good urbex videos 👍
