Bhutan govt. needs to do something about this guide and permit costs also the entry charges bcuz with 40-60k people can go to Thailand instead. honestly speaking Bhutan shouldn’t cost more than 20-25k and that’s why I keep avoiding it personally.

Both Thiland & Bhutan offer different things, hence comparing both would be a bit unfair! Though I agree with you on the restrictions put by Bhutan government, I think they want to restrict tourist coming in.

Bhutan wants “High Value, Low Volume” tourism. SDF, mandatory guide and other fees are by design.

Since Indian rupee is widely accepted in Bhutan, you can just carry INR! While you can withdraw from ATMs in Bhutan, we carried just enough INRs for our spend!

Roads at times can be bad due to rains & slides specially after rainy season. But in general we found roads in Bhutan to be good for long drives. For kids also it's safe!

When i visited bhutan on bike precovid there was no mandatory sdf charges or any mandatory guide. Now i would definitely not visit bhutan as i usually travel via bike and don't want to spend exuberantly. It's not worth it. Either bhutan govt do something about it specifically for bikers or else bhutan is going to loose a huge chunk of tourists in the long run.

@@thetrickedsoul agree, for bikers it's double whammy as they need to pay for bike as well along with SDF! However, when we spoke to our guide and tour operator in Bhutan, they mentioned that they don't want many tourists to preserve Bhutan from overtourism!

Since SDF charges in Bhutan are per night basis, so as long as you're not spending your 8 hrs in the night, you should be fine!

Yes agree! Bhutan trip is lot expensive for foreigners. Bhutan has now reduced the SDF from earlier $200/night to $100 though!

For Bhutan trip, the tour package costs is per person (23-49k). So for two people this would be 2 times. Tour package me hotels (with breakfast), car, driver & guide included hota hai.

You can either take one guide for yourself at immigration or take group tour that will have one guide assigned. Check with Bhutan tour operator for group tours!

Yes, you can buy maximum of 20gms gold in Bhuran duty free! For that, you need to stay at least one night at a hotel certified by Bhutan Tourism office. Hope this helps!

There are certain conditions to it if you want to buy gold. For e.g. you would have to stay one night at least in government hotels. A bit of hassle it's if you ask us!
