A very detailed video. As an Indian, I think this case study should be taught in India as well so that we also understand why religious radicalism is bad. Hero worshipping in politics always leads to decline. It is true that a lot of damage was already done by Pakistani elites who controlled everything in case of Bangladesh. Only when the bizarre romanticism of left leaning Indian elite ends. No such romanticism exists towards Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka or even China. It's irrational, something like Stockholm syndrome. Even during the cold war, many leftist Americans were inclined towards USSR, so this problem of romanticism is not unique to us. Read about the Thapar family, they have been pro Pakistan no matter what happened, even after 2008 Mumbai attack, Karan Thapar was writing pro Pakistan op-eds. There are tons of such people here.

To understand what led to Bangladesh and other secessionist movements in Pakistan you have to read the 1940 Lahore resolution for formation of Pakistan which described Pakistan as "the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in a majority as in the North Western and Eastern Zones of (British) India should be grouped to constitute ‘independent states’ in which the constituent units should be autonomous and sovereign." This describes Pakistan as a federation of autonomous states and not one nation state. It was not the common man in East Pakistan but the intellectuals particularly the economists who were responsible for demand of greater autonomy to East Pakistan. A Harvard educated Bengali economist had predicted the breakup of Pakistan to Gen Ayub Khan in 1960. These facts are missing from the popular narrative wrt 1971 both in India and Pakistan.

The economist that you mention is Anisur Rahman. He and some fellow economists from East Pakistan advocated redistribution of resources from West to East Pakistan. When this was turned down in spite of being completely logical he is quoted to have said "West Pakistanis would rather hand over real political power to the Chinese than give it to the Bengalis"
