Lesser game studios might suspect they fucked up when one of the most positive faces of their game can be seen in real time becoming progressively disenfranchised with it. IDK Behaviour really seems to be making decisions under the assumption that DBD didn't just luck itself into the genres top spot due to all its genuine competition tripping onto their own knives at every step of its existence. Its PUBG all over again, except all the 'Fornites' that could take it out shot themselves in the foot long before they could start the fight.

I mean to be fair, by the time a PTB happens they're probably already almost done with the patch. Many times the feedback from the PTB has to be added in bugfixes after release. That's how crazy the schedule of this game is.

​@@notOtzdarva yeah it sucks, but at the same time the PTB is explicitly for feedback. It's kinda fair to expect said feedback to be implemented, especially when it's about glaring oversights. If it was called "Preview of The Newest Patch" it'd be different because there's no expectation that we're being listened to, we just get to have a look before the changes/killer goes live. I understand the schedule of the game probably just doesn't allow for it, but I just wish they'd be clearer about that instead of raising our expectations and giving the illusion of interaction.

It baffles me that BHVR created the Discarded Airfilter and Idler Screw within the same breath that brought back Thompson's Mix. I would be beyond surprised if they didn't nerf or outright remove the cooldown add-ons, but I can see them leaving the useless ones untouched in typical dev fashion. Then again, there is not much room for complaints on my part really, Billy feels as great as never before and if engravings, lopro and steering add-ons stay unchanged, I can die happily.

I'm surprised Otz did not mention Behavior's obsession with making Brown/Yellow Addons directly buff the killer's power so significantly, that playing without said addons feels horrible, then make the Greens, Purples, and Iridescents super niche or have some sort of wacky affect that ultimately leads to them being useless. Prime examples being the previously mentioned Knight (Map of the Realm), Ghostface (Philly), Dredge (Haddie's Calander), Demogorgon (Rat Liver), Twins (Toy Sword), Legion (Mischieve List) and now even Trickster to a large extent (Momento Blades). The spirit add-on being accidentally buffed by making the range smaller is the same problem we had with the old _Whispers_ perk. Whispers used to have a small range as a Tier 1 perk and this range was biggest on Tier 3 Whispers. But ofc when you look for survivors, having a small area to search is much more useful. Whispers has since been fixed, now tier 3 has the smallest, most accurate range. I'm baffled how they made the same mistake again with Spirit

This is a personal example of addon design for the Deathslinger that I find crazy. He has two addons that inflict mangled which are the rusted spike (yellow) and the honey locust thorn (green). The spike inflicts mangled when you spear a survivor with your power. After hitting a survivor (assuming no stbfl stacks) you will go through a 2.74s cooldown animation before you can reload while the green requires the survivor to break free from your speargun which will cause you to have a 3s stun penalty. So we have two addons that cause the same status affect where the yellow is better than the green for the same thing. Additionally it is impossible to down a survivor unless you can reel them in for a m1. If you have the rusted spike you are guaranteed to do this while if you have the green you are putting yourself at a disadvantageous position (if you down have the chewing tobacco/ bayshores cigar) Thank you for the video Otz!

TBH (and I could be very wrong) my tinhat cynical guess is that the add-ons had other effects somewhere in the development process, it was nixed during further testing because it was broken or interacted badly with others and someone said ‘chop chop take that off and we’re not allocating manpower hours to do something else because it’s not a priority!’ (Because god forbid the new rift/dlc not be pumped out on a production line.) But that might be me being overly harsh and suspicious on certain aspects of management or executive handling. Again maybe that’s overly suspicious, but I never forget when Elder Scrolls Online had a new region and a new combat class for the first time in ages and Zenimax yanked a ton of the team to work on a cash flow sports game, leaving the dedicated combat balance team for both PvP and PvE with a brand new class as ONE GUY. I’m sure you don’t need to hear how wildly broken many aspects of the new region was. So nothing sounds too ridiculous to be AT ALL possible to me anymore 😅

Another for Deathslinger is the Spit Polish Rag + Oil Can (0.25/0.5s faster recovery after a missed shot) being worse than the Ammo Belt + Warden's Keys (0.25/0.5s faster reload). If you miss a shot and then immediately reload, the missed shot saves 1.35 metres of catching up, while the reload saves 1.02m. The difference is 0.33m, or 0.075 seconds. You could just not reload after missing the shot, but then you'd be chasing as a tall 110% killer with no power. Usually not ideal. And if you are close enough to benefit from the missed shot, you shouldn't have missed the shot. If you land your shot (which you should), the first set of addons does absolutely nothing, while the second still helps you catch up. The reload speed just helps in both situations, and even in the right situation for the missed cooldown addons, it's barely a difference anyway. edit: just realised the wardens keys are 0.35, not 0.5, so the difference is a bit more, but they're still just better anyway.

Another forgotten Slinger add on is the hellshire iron. The undetectable that it gives you is worthless. At least one person definitely knows where you are, and the other survivors will probably be able to have a pretty good idea where you are as well. Also by the time you have reloaded and might be able to take another shot. The people that in theory be you would be sneaking up on will almost certainly know that you are there already. Honestly one of the most ridiculous yellow add-ons I've ever seen... oh wait

They have the same issue when it comes to designing new perks as well. The utility of older perks gets replicated or completely eclipsed by a newer perk, which either results in useless filler perks, or it results in older perks getting reworked. Then those reworks seem rushed and not thought out well, as we saw with the buckle up rework creating that insane tandem with FTP.

What makes it even more interesting is that the playstyle they intend the knight to have is one they're actively working to remove from the game. Ok, you want players to use guards to guard locations. Where do you think they're going to do that BHVR? They're going to guard gens. Do you think they'll want to only patrol 1 gen at a time? No? That's three genning, they want him to 3 gen while trying to remove 3 genning.

Skull Merchant has some funny ones too. Like removing Drone rotation entirely, a Purple addon that reveals a Survivor's aura for 6 seconds when they get Claw Trapped. Sounds okay, until you remember that oh yeah, Claw Trapped Survivors are already trackable with her power, so it serves literally 0 purpose. There's a green one that reveals aura for 4 seconds when a Claw Trap is REMOVED, which makes way more sense, still bad, but at least it makes sense.

My personal take on how to change Billy's useless addons: Counterweight: increase the initial turning rate by 15%. This helps beginners curve and billy experts can also gain value eg when iri engraving+overdrive. (they might need to rename it lightweight or sth) Cracked Primer Bulb: the initial turning rate lasts 0.15s longer since it only deals 1 health state damage Thermal Casing: Chainsaw produce 25% less heat but overdrive lasts 50% longer Discarded Air Filter: after getting stunned or blinded chainsaw charged speed increased by 15% (mother's helper 2.0) Ragged Engine: after hitting a chainsaw, gain undetectable for 30s (Leafy Mash 2.0) High-Speed Idler Screw: during overdrive, gain 15% action speed bonus + Enduring overall 7.5.0 is an amazing patch for hillbilly players, i enjoyed playing him alot.

Talking about Knight: It's insane to me that a brown addon (MotR) outclasses just about every other in his arsenal, when there are other addons that are considerably worse. Like you can't play Knight without this one common addon, and they've already buffed the tabbard, so maybe you'd want to run both.

I really think a lot of killers could use a lot of the QOL add ons put into base kit. Add ons really should be for encouraging a certain build or play style like how Myers does it, but they shouldn't ever be 100% necessary or useless.

And it is so depressing, as a Deathslinger Main myself, i thought the reeling speed add-ons were actually pretty ok, but they do so little and plus at default if the Deathslinger moves backwards while reeling them in they honestly get reeled in decently quick enough, but these reeling speed add-ons do so little i believe it's, the snake oil 5% which is brown, and Bayshore's gold tooth at 9% which is green, they could buff these numbers to like 10% and 15% and these with probably be ok, and im not even gonna talk about the ads movement speed add-ons, and why is there a green mangled add-on when the yellow one is way better

Though i have to say, double move speed while ADS is actually pretty comfy feeling, if you ads on a survivor your not confident you could hit, but they're coming up on something, they're gonna wiggle side to side, and you close that gap REAL quick with these addons. and they cant just, not wiggle, because then you've got a free shot. However, i'm probably getting placebo'd REALLY hard here because i've never bothered to think about it with and without. But the reeling speed, whuff. and the issue is new players will see those and use them religiously because of how good they sound, when they do nothing

​@@LucaTheHyenayeah but Deathslinger already moves decently quick when about 2 years around the time when Deathslinger's Ads and Terror radius were nerfed but they also buffed his movement speed and his stun recovery time lowered down to 3 seconds and not 4, and the ads movement speed add-ons are more of a comfort pick but it's not even good comfort addons cuz if remember correctly, Deathslinger moves currently at 3.9m/s and the ads movement speed add-ons are 1.5 and 3% and they do so little

@@notOtzdarva every time you hit consecutive knife up to 8, you get a score event. the next time you use main event, your main event is extended by the score value. scores are E-D-C-B-A-S(2/3/4/5/6/8). Duration increases are 0.5-3.5 seconds. Trickster's yellow duration add-on increases main event by 3 seconds. It is superior in every way to fizz soda.

@@scytheleaf 1. QUICKLY hitting multiple blades in a row builds up a combo. Hit 2 blades in a row, that's a 2x combo - then a 3x combo, 4x combo, so on. 2. If you don't hit blades in a row fast enough, the combo will end. This is what the addons affect - they give you.. slightly more time before the window ends. 3. The higher your combo meter, the longer your next Main Event will be, up to +3 seconds. The addons are ASS because you can just USE TEQUILA! Why give yourself a SLIGHTLY bigger window of time to build combo, which you never need, when you can just slap on +60% main event duration? And that's just ONE of the reasons why they're terrible. The numbers are bad, they're also outclassed by stopwatch, the combo system is not even clearly shown in the UI, etc. Fucking pathetic lmfao I really hope that was explained well and I'm happy to retry if it wasn't lol

Depending on Otz told to us, i think that the main Dev's problem is: 1) They don't play their game and can't compare how and what will happen in these or that situations. 2) They don't give a fuck. Because we all have addiction to the idea of game and there is no decent analogues. Texas massacre fucked up by their own dev's and that was sad.

Pyramid Heads addons need a rework the most because they are really inconsistent and hard to get value from and this explains why people only use his double range addons. Another reason is because he has been in the game for a couple of years, and since they wanted to make changes to his power in a previous PTB I don't believe it would be a licensing issue.

For things like buffing the Knight addon and nerfing the Spirit addon, I don't think the excuse of "the devs don't have time" can be used, since it only takes 10 seconds to read the effect of the addon and then come to the conclusion that changing the value in a certain will actually make the addon stronger/weaker This isn't a time or communication issue, this is a competency issue

Hey otz I'm a trickster main and my main build is hex ruin,deadlock, corrupt intervention, and scourge hook: pain resonance. I'm thinking about changing deadlock and putting bamboozle because the killer shack is a big weakness for trickster but deadlock also helps me slow down the game and really compliments hex ruin. Do you think i should switch deadlock for bamboozle?. (This is also a question for the chat if anyone has an opinion i wanna hear it!)

Yeah that might work just fine! - Deadlock stops Ruin and Pain Res from working sometimes, so it is a bit awkward despite being a great perk.

Kick it and make a guard camp it while it regresses. that being said it still would be much better to have the power in chase but food for the thought! Also i know the devs would never add voice comms but what would you think about a walkie talkie as an item allowing comms or something along that line?

It might be worth noting that Blight's Slam Duration addons also have the same effect that Wesker's Egg does. During the slam, you're also able to indirectly move faster.

You know whats got me worried? Deathslinger recently got his turn in the spotlight of lore for the new tome and rift. And it makes me get this feeling theyre gonna ruin his add ons like Wardens keys or Modified ammo belt to make the reload speed longer. Or changing his ultra rare add ons to something way mote unsatisfying. Maybe changing Iridecent coin to something like granting a speed boost after or while reeling a survivor.

The purple add on for wesker used to do give a bigger chunk of infection as well when you hit a survivor with the dash in any way, even if it didnt grab because of endurance.

Within 8m of me were 3 survivors, I hit 1 with Frenzy but the Vittorio wasnt giving off K.I. while Ada does. On a another instance in the same match, it was Ada that was not detected.

The cherry blossom “nerf” is still so weird for me. Whispers shows they understand a shorter range can make detection perks/add ons better. Since when you level up that perk it goes from like 36m to 18m (sorry if those numbers aren’t accurate). Yet even then they made that change on making a more accurate detection add on

I think that's OK in some cases (like Wraith), but some Killers have 4 addons that do the same and they're all useless, and that's quite sad.

Hey Otz, this is Alfred. Could you make a vid showing how the new gen changes may impact certain perks. For example, Eruption will eat through the allowed 8 regression events because you have to kick a gen to start the perk up (one regression event) and down a survivor (second regression event). So you'll really only have four gen kicks if you're not careful running the perk. Four gen kicks doesn't seem like a lot to me especially in high traffic areas like the central gens in RPD.

Great video to inform people about things in the game to just ignore and not waste time with. I actually come from old school gaming before patches existed whereby it was relatively common for there to be completely useless things in games and people just made sure to never use them. So whether or not people believe bhvr should fix these things, its important to inform everyone so they don't waste their time.

Dance with me isn't the strongest but is really fun pair with lithe as if you hit a vault you get the speed boost along with not leaving blood or scratch marks allowing a bit more hesitation from killer to retarget you potentially giving you more distance if he doesn't just lose you (also knowing it's a perk you have being as you run windows) fun one to play around with

The community is actually unifying around the point that the constant march forward for new content is hurting the game, and I'm here for it. Don't get me wrong, I love me some new content, but the game really needs a balance pass more than anything. The issue is that the devs are incentivized by the market to release content on a consistent schedule and I really can't blame them for that. The best we can do is keep talking about it. Keep pushing for a balance pass, and maybe we'll see a few more Billy level touch ups on our aging characters.

as i understand it the issue with the pyramidhead addon (and what used to be the issue with the spirit addons) is that anything in the game using a power that depletes (killer powers, survivor items, etc) is based on a 'charges' system; ie., a toolbox or pyramidhead sword power has [x] charges and [y] charges are consumed each second you use the toolbox to repair the generator, or the power to create lines on the ground. the # of charges is static but the recovery of charges for killer powers is always % based, ie. you recover a static 5% of your power every second, regardless of how many 'charges' you have. this creates a problem when you have an addon that increases the maximum number of charges but the % of charges recovered per second remains static. if you have 100 charges and recover 5% of those charges per second, and you have an addon that adds 10 charges without reducing that 5% recovery rate, you now suddenly recover more charges per second and also have more maximum charges. not a bug so much as a design oversight that will continue to affect pretty much any similar killer powers they add to the game until they change the charge system (unlikely) or make exceptions for every set of duration addons; there are likely other addons with weird and ineffective functionality stemming from the way these mechanics are handled.

I think the one thing both sides enjoy the most from what I understand is figuring out what the other side has (unless it's extremely strong). Most people like to pinpoint perks during a match so they can play around it. I find it sad how most addons in the game do little to no change in playstyles or power use. Most survivors don't even care to look at add ons most of the time for a lot of the killer roster because a lot of people already know what the popular ones are for most killers.

The spirit's add ons indirect buff reminds me of the perk that helps you to find totems. When I started playing, I would try my best to avoid having the perk at its finest because the lower the range, the more precise it is
