I also try to consume anything Biba, wether it’s books or videos. Thank you for sharing this makeup🥰

I remember always using the sponge applicators. I don't remember makeup brushes until fairly recently. I'm 50 btw. Sounds a little like sephora. Girls will come in and do their makeup spray some perfume then out they go. Lol. I remember when some nail polish would catch on fire when you lit your cigarette lol!
@homespabeauty7 жыл бұрын
You made me spill my tea with the cigarette/nail polish part - how times have changed! I agree that makeup brushes in the collections we see now seem to have gained popularity in the last 15 years & before that it was always applicators and a basic brush set from a store for most folks. You need to share more stories! :)

I didn't even realise they'd stopped the sponge. I used them 20 years ago but stopped wearing make up. I'm just watching this for historic interest as Biba. Do eye shadows no longer come with a little sponge brush now?

Fab! My late cousin worked at Biba, Ken High St in 1970s & when she went to Hollywood (she was really lovely!) she left me all her Biba eye crayon wax sticks - intense irridescent colours in pale blue, green, lilac, green, gold, bronze, copper, all sorts! They were my first makeup, I loved them & used to take an hour doing my eyes, with lashings of black mascara extending to my eyebrows. Layers of application for subtle intensity!

That's a lovely story! Your cousin sounds like she lived an exciting 1970s life and giving those crayons to you - love it! :)

yes it looks real to me, i used to go into the kensington high st Biba quite a bit, here in London in the 70s, the Rainbow room was amazing..... my friend collected quite a a lot of there mirrored furniture. it was the whole experience when you went , the vibe was great.

I love this! I've got several beautifully produced books on Biba and the Rainbow Room looks stunning. Feel free to share as many stories as you like and if you ever record any videos sharing your experiences I'll be asking for links immediately. You make it sound as memorable as I hoped it would be :)

Most women used the sponge applicators to do their daily makeup until the 90's in the U.S. . I don't know about other places. The applicators look very well made.

They’re really sturdy & haven’t broken down at all after all this time. I think it’s pretty much similar here - I remember we all used those applicators when we got a new eyeshadow back in the day. Times have certainly changed!

I'm a painter, and some times my watercolor brushes get a little weird. You can use warm water, then if you have fabric sizing (or clothing starch) dip the damp brush into that, shape it and let it dry. That should bring the bristles back into shape.

Thanks for the tip - I'm definitely going to try that! :)

I wore Boba make up in the 70s . I loved my Mahogany colored lipstick. I keep trying to find a dupe, but I have not found it. I'm American, but did live in London close to where the Biba store use to be and showed at the store that was there at the time and I wished it had been there still. I believe the store was already gone when I started wearing the make--up.

I have a terrible auto correct. It's BIBA of course. We had a Vidal Sassoon salon down from where I worked back then, all the girls who worked there came in and we did their BIBA make-up.

I love your story! Thanks so much for sharing - amazing memories ❤️ I agree that there won’t be many brands creating such unique colours. You could try the more creative brands, such as Illamasqua (they can be very wide reaching with their shades 🤞🏻).

Have you read Grace Coddington's bio? She talks lovingly of Biba. Since you don't plan to use it, this would make a beautiful display in shadowboxes with museum mounts. We did something similar with my friend's collection of vintage compacts, cigarette cases, and pill boxes; its really striking.

I love Grace Coddington so will definitely be checking that out thanks! Great idea about the display (and I love the sound of your friend's collection) :)

I still have my Biba make up. My local chemist sold me the eyeshadow palette for £5. Our local market sold Biba make up for between 5p and 25p, I used to go to Whittakers in Bolton. I had lots of the Biba range from there. I still have a badge, make up bag diary and false eyelashes and make up brushes as well. Pounstretchers in Glasgow used to sell Biba skincare in the early 80s at 25p. The one near Lew8s department store. I think the dome eyeshadows are the later ones reincarnated in the early 90s. I had the rest of what you have. I sold a lot over the years. You are lucky your applicators haven't disintegrated mine did. I have the china doll foundations. They had china doll1,2 and 3.they had really dark foundation. I still remember the original smell of the make up when it was fresh. They had some really strange colours of lipsticks and nail polishes such as black, blue and burgundy and white and yellow which are modern for now. I won't use it now but I still look at them and my Mary Quant make up.
