Bible Journaling: What to draw when you don't know what to draw

Sometimes we end up in a Bible journaling desert - not out of the word, just out of visuals. It's time to at least put some color on the page, and make a sacrifice of praise!

That’s the sacrifice of praise, when the things going on in your life are difficult, testing, painful, worrisome. Then when you praise him it’s a sacrifice, to give up self to seek him and praise him inspire of those things. Prayers for you. God recently gave us a new pastor after 2 yrs without one. Start now sacrificing in praise for the man is preparing for the new shepherd position. Love you Sandy.

Perhaps, the only focus needs to be praise & study of His Word in this season...this too shall pass (feeling of lack). Sending up prayers for you Sandy, & your publisher, your pastor & his wife. I know that I’ve not entered my craft room for the past month. I haven’t gone to church steadily lately either & I don’t know why. So, I understand this feeling of lack of enthusiasm! When I watched your video this morning I understood how you were feeling. I believe that we can all relate in some fashion. While you had not said anything before, I felt there was a difference in your posting, here on KZbin and Instagram. Change is difficult. I thouhg ot Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 "To every thing there is a season, and at time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to hear; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stone, and a time to gather stone together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, ant a time of peace." We climb mountains and go deep into the valleys. I will be praying things work out with your book/publisher, changes in your Church and the direction you decide to take. It was through you that I first learned about Bible journaling. You are and will continue to be an inspiration to me and others.

Sandy I get it. I have been in a funk for several months. I missed a few weeks of Church, which didn't help and I absolutely did not feel like doing any kind of journaling.. I knew missing church was not going to help so I got back on my routine of attending. I kept taking notes and then one day something was said that hit me and I could see the page I wanted to do. I went home and created it, and now I'm back doing it when I can based on my crazy schedule.. I think this is normal. Keep being faithful and pray for creativity. It will come. Hi Sandy, It is clear from all the comments that we all have been there or are currently in a similar place. I think also that you have a very high standard for yourself and perhaps this needs to be a time of regeneration for you. You are allowed to rest, and renew, body and soul! Give yourself grace and try not to be too hard on yourself! Baby steps my dear! Sandy...My name is Kelly. I really want to tell you, I enjoy your Bible journaling. I just started about 4 months ago. Please know I'm familiar with what season you're in...we all are familiar with where you are. We are individual, as well as one body. Know the reason you're doing Bible journaling on utube...as well as in private. You're just where you're the Lord wants you...He will take care if everything else with regards to you.....He fights your battles before you even know, and puts you back together. I love this idea. I have been working more in my Bible journal than ever before. I have been homeless for almost 6 months now hoping from one place to another with my Bible and some of my Stampin'Up supplies to work with. I had a black arkival pen to draw with but lost it long the way and now cant get another one. I had already been trying to get a white gel pen. Funny how just little pens are hard to get when money is tight. What had been keeping me going was my videos but now I am at a place where I don't have wifi and I have to use my data and not sure how long that will last me. I have made a few videos while using data because I just couldn't standing not sharing or had to say something to my followers. This video has been inspiring to me today and I want to thank you. Oh, how I understand that weird headspace! I've been there for a while too, to the point I'm beginning to feel neglectful on fellowship. It's become easier to 'turtle' in at home. Oh Sandy, I feel your pain! I just had a situation dumped on me that I really don't want, but feel God is leading me to take on. I am meeting with my pastor later this week to discuss it in detail, and put some ideas to paper. I haven't been creative for awhile either, and though I bought your book and workbook, have not much with them besides read. I believe the right time will come for that (as it will for you) - in God's time. Perhaps He is telling you to take a break, and that's ok. I will keep you in prayer that your publishing issue will right itself. Just know how much of a blessing you are to us!

OMG, I am going through this season myself right now and I have been feeling SO bad about it! I look at my bible journaling supplies everyday and want to do, but I just don't. I still read my bible verses and do scripture writing, but I have not felt the spark of doing my art/bible journaling. But the suggestion of doing patterns is a great idea. Thanks for sharing this!

Sandy, prayers for you in this season of flux and change. I go through periods where I can't get out of my head long enough to do the worshipful art part. I'm learning, and growing, I'm just not able to communicate those ideas to the pages of my Bible. I am by NO means anywhere near a daily journaler, I've just not ever had the time to commit or the health hasn't been there. I see we all understand, you are not alone. I haven’t done a page in my Bible in so long. I study and read and pray, but am carrying some heavy burdens and the art that usually brings comfort, it just isnt there.

Sandy, it sounds like you are still in God's word even if you are not journaling right now and that is okay. We all go through seasons where things are changing and our routines get altered. Thank you for sharing this. Normally I don't do well with too many changes, and there were lots of changes these last few months. Thank you so much for the reminder to just keep going, and that feeling lost is normal/ok every now and then. With the topic you mentioned, it reminded me of a kit that is being released for presale in a bit. I thought I was going to skip it, but with what you said, maybe it would be nice to grab it and have a guide as I try to find my comfy normal again.
