Many of you have asked great questions about our translation of the Lord's Prayer. For example, why do we say "kingdom of the skies" instead of "kingdom of heaven?" Our scholar team begins by translating the original Greek text of Jesus' prayer and comparing it to how other trustworthy biblical translation teams parse those same words and phrases. Their translation aims to preserve the literary design when identical words and repeated phrases appear in the Greek text by making them repeat similarly in English, no matter how often a word or phrase is used. They also try to use words and phrases that convey the same meaning but give new vitality to passages that have become overly familiarized. Some words may sound strange, but these translation choices are a more literal rendering of the Greek text into English. If you're curious for more, Tim and Jon discuss the translation "kingdom of the skies" in a recent Question and Response podcast episode. You can check it out here (starting at 46:19): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYbTi3-Co8hko7csi=av9x-dRAu9Ivn_Fz&t=2779

You're misinterpreting the text. Your "scholars" shouldn't be trying to reinterpret the text. They should be trying to keep its original format and remain true to what the word of God actually says. Your theology is wrong in that area. Your message is just confusing when you change the text to mean something it shouldn't. My second point of complaint is in the area where you suggest Jesus was tempted to sin, and that he had the thoughts from Satan to sin. That is a heresy and you blaspheme the word of God by teaching this fallacy. I suggest your scholars go back to their studies in Greek before continuing on in this tragedy.

I've never been good at praying. I don't know what to say, what to want, what I'm forgetting to be thankful for. I'm so thankful that Jesus provides us a simple prayer that covers everything at once. Acknowledgement of God's greatness and sovereignty, asking for provision, and hope going forward

Completely random comment here, but as one who did not grow up in a Christian home, I have a, perhaps unique, appreciation for your videos. I can remember babysitting a little girl when I was a teenager. Her parents had toddler VHSs (yes, I'm that old) about Bible stories and even though they were made for kids, they taught me. Shortly after God saved me, I became a mom. Love it or hate it, I learned a lot from the VeggieTales with our son. Your videos are obviously deeper than these examples, but they make some of the tougher and/or confusing parts of the bible more accessible to the lay person. I turned 27 years old in Christ this month, but I still feel like a kid. All of that to say, thank you for what you do. It makes a difference, and I am grateful.

Thanks for reaching out! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the new Sermon on the Mount video series. We’d like to make the "Our Father" choral song from Episode 7 available for download, but since we worked with a group outside of BibleProject who arranged and recorded it, we don’t currently have the licensing rights to distribute it beyond this video or offer it as a downloadable song. However, we’re currently checking to see if we can get permission to share it. Otherwise, I recommend bookmarking the video for future listening or checking out other recorded variations of the prayer elsewhere. If you search “Abun d’Bashmayo” on KZbin, there are many beautiful renditions of the song out there! I hope this helps in the meantime!

I had been struggling with vengeful thoughts for a long time. I had been targeted by people at work, betrayed by people I once held close, and heartbroken among other things. I never knew how to cope in a healthy way besides either running away from everything that scared me, or getting extremely angry to the point where I might harm myself or others. And that’s the very thing; I didn’t like feeling that way, I was just tired of people doing me wrong and my automatic thoughts towards being hurt was her revenge. Recently I remembered that I can’t walk this road alone and I have to pray about this. I need help in forgiving others and forgiving myself . Harboring grudges is too much of a load to carry so I have it all too God. I’m not perfect and I do get tempted but I have faith I am being led right.

I've never felt like i was good at praying, knowing what to say, or ask. It can be intimidating, talking to the creator of the universe... At some point i started making a point to try and pray this prayer daily. It feels like its helped my growth a lot, and eventually i started to add my own words. Like i guess one example, i lost a friend awhile back over my faith. And i wanted to do as God wants and forgive them, but i still felt so angry any time i thought about the last conversation we had. So i started using my own words in this prayer, saying "forgive us our transgressions, and teach us to forgive." I still get angry from time to time when i think about that person. But i can also see how much of that anger God has helped me grow out of, and i know its only a matter of time before He helps me to fully make peace. God is so powerful, and so gracious, and loving. Im still learning a lot and growing a lot. I still mess up way more than i would like to admit. It can be hard to take steps, or have the discipline to keep following Him when things get tough. Especially for me when i constantly seem to feel like i have failed Him... But i trust Him, i know he knows my heart. Even if i don't know the words to say... I maybe rambled a little there. I guess i just wanted to get that off my chest.

Thats so so beautiful, and no you didn't ramble, what you said really ministered to me. I just know God is proud of you for standing firm in your faith and working on forgivness, were all learning and growing, it's not easy but it's worth it 💕

I have always struggled with my prayer life. It is easily the weakest part of my narrow walk in Christ. I live a pretty boring yet very satisfying life now retired after the military. Not much to pray for or about really without it beginning to feel painstakingly repetitive and seeing to become a chore or obligation. Nobody likes a phoney just because Paul says we should do it "unceasingly"! The Lord's prayer three times a day (as biblically expected) is just golden for me. Like Pizza, it hits all the right spots and leaves me feeling fully satisfied. Hope the Lord feels the same........🤔

That point at 4:15 made me start crying. Today I have a better comprehension of how God’s forbearance towards us directs us to reflect His light in forgiving others. I was raised a Christian, and I strive to live by these ideals, no matter how much I fail to match them every day. But I am grateful for your videos. They help me grasp these truths in ways that capture them so succinctly and get down into my heart. Thank you. Yahweh has every right to destroy us for our sin and yet He is so patient, kind and merciful toward us. We should be the same when others sin against us, especially if we want to show our appreciation for His own mercy. That’s how we love God and neighbour. That’s how we conquer the evil with the good. Jesus truly gave us the best example to imitate his Father. ❤

This is very beautifully done and well-thought out and well-made. I thank God for the arts being used so prolifically here in this project. Also, nice touch with the Aramaic graffiti on the Latin Roman poster with the word "ܪܩܐ/Raqa" on it. The Aramaic singing was very beautiful to hear and meditate upon.

I love the fact that you include music in this latest episode. I appreciate the originality of the music in English without neglecting it's Aramaic translation. Thumbs up. I can't wait to see the next series

I’m loving the whole sermon on the mount series. You need to make the Aramaic choir available as well as “Lady Wisdom” saying the Lord’s Prayer. This is another level of awesomeness! Thank you!

Thank you so much for all your hard work! I'm new to christianity, and have a lot of catching up to do. But my adhd is the size of a mammoth. "Just reading" simply does not work. Yet I find myself learning, thinking, feeling ❤ thanks to your efforts. Cheers!
