First of all.. coming out the gate..God "Tests" no one, cuz he don't have to, he can read their thoughts.. to know what they'll do and what they won't do, a person always thinks before he does something.. he thinks about it first, secondly.. the word "Test" is a mistranslation, in the manuscript the word used is "Proved" he proved Abraham, got it 😑🕊️

The animator who made this is a genius. I love how he depicted the door of God's test surrounded by flames and the one of Satan as a Deep forest. In general, we might think that the Deep forest looks more peaceful and the flames are more attributed to the Devil. However, in this scenario, (from my point of view) God's door with the flames represents the difficulty, the challenges of this test that might burn us at some point but at the end, these flames will become God's glory/holy spirit overwhelming us. On the other hand, Satan's door, which might look easier like a green forest (nothing harmful) is actually the most dangerous one. It shows that the devil has the appearance of being less painful but in reality, that deep forest will cause loss, terror, and despair among those who will enter.

Trust in God is paramount. Like you the fiery doorway is representing a overall theme of the Bible and Gods plan. Easy and wide is the way to damnation while difficult and narrow is the way to salvation. God does not test us for his purposes but our own so that we may grow and benefit from his glory. He has endless souls to use and he chose you to go through with this turmoil.

That imagery and your point just shows the amount of delusion you get into from indoctrination. That you will challenge your proper perception, well being, and safety (as well as others') just for self righteousness and moral superiority. Religious fanatics will go at any lengths to justify their own truth, and that's why there are extremist violent jihad, the crusades, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and religiously justified racial and social hate and divide all over the world. To add, the psychology of how God needs to test subjects and creations are testimony to how superficial and self-gratifying the nature of the Abrahamic God is. Even just in organizational development that's a show of weak and toxic leadership. What more for a God, that makes the deity sound quite pathetic, insecure, and self-serving.

One of the most misunderstood concepts and messages in the Bible. It’s a shame every other religion gets to have nuance and explanation to their texts but the Christianity is judged off first glance. Thank you so much BibleProject for explaining this for Christians and non Christians alike!

@steveXracer Interesting, I have never heard this idea before. What evidence do you have that Isaac was a man? When I read the story in genesis it doesn't indicate an age, only saying "some time later" is when the sacrifice of Isaac had happened.
@JT55554 жыл бұрын
To Be Fair,It's Hard NOT To Judge A Religion At First Glance When Far Too Many Of It's Followers Do Things Like Use It For Their Own Agenda (How Can "God Hate Gays" If He Is The Embodiment Of Love? You Can't Embody Love And Hate Something At The Same Time),Try To Use It As A Argument For Debate Without Most Even Reading The Book And Almost Always Depict It's Figures As White Even When They Clearly Were't. When You Got People The Scream About It Like It's A Cult,Then People See That And Judge Based On It: It's ALSO Not Fair That Muslims Are Judged As All Being Terrorists,But It Happens And That's Just The Product Of A Few,Very Select Groups For A Religion That's No Where NEAR As Big As Christianity.
@drosprey4 жыл бұрын
@steveXracer Genesis 22:6 seems like a strange defense for why Isaac must be an adult. Children between 10 to 18 can definitely be strong enough to carry a bundle of wood (and the boy in the video looks to me to be between 14 and 16 years old, which is just a guess as it is a cartoon). Is this the only reason you think Isaac was older than a child (older than 20?), as that is quite the conclusion a few steps removed from what the text actually says (based on the assumption that only a person 20 years or older could carry the wood and sticks required for a sacrifice). I am just trying to understand the hermeneutic that leads to the definitive conclusion that Isaac must have been a man in that story (especially when it never shares his age, and the more obvious inference, though unprovable is that he was still an adolescent given his apparent ignorance in the story and how the story is placed between his 8th day circumcision and search for a bride).
@Window45034 жыл бұрын
@steveXracer I think this is just further support for the original post. Other religions have shocking details, but the Bible is held under more scrutiny. It wouldn’t matter what age Isaac was because their hearts will always find another way to accuse God of evil. As long as they are lost, they will refuse to understand. I’ve gotten into enough debates and even backed enough atheists into a logical corner to learn that they actively choose to view the Bible negatively no matter what’s placed before them.
@drosprey4 жыл бұрын
@steveXracer I don't read the bible thinking what is the best way to present it so it doesn't look bad, I think the best way to read it is to try and discern what we can actually gather from the story (what is actually communicated). And it doesn't indicate an age (though there are, in my opinion, stronger arguments to say he was a child). I don't think that makes God more or less "bloodthirsty" compared to if we (out of convenience it seems) claim he was a man and that he was in the loop and could at any moment overpower his father. I think a healthy question to ask (for myself as well) is, if there is something in scripture which is hard, should I conform scripture to myself (and make it easier), or should I try to understand why it is uncomfortable and through that process conform myself to God as revealed in scripture. For example, if I think God is blood thirsty if I read a story, perhaps I should look into it more to understand if God is in fact blood thirsty in the story, instead of creating an alternative explanation and saying that is the only way. I really appreciate the Bible Project because I think they do this all the time, look into what the bible is actually saying, and digging deeper into hard parts of the bible. I am not trying to convince you of anything Stevexracer (I'm saying that just because I think textual communication can be missunderstood), I was just honestly very curious if there were any good interpretive reasons that backed up your claim (and maybe there still are).

I am definitely being tested right now. There are so many weird things happening to me that I want answers. So I pray, yet I get no answers, and my doubts grow stronger. So I pray harder, even begging for answers and signs. Even deliberatly looking for signs in anything, till I realise I need to live with the fact that questions will go unanswered and that I simply need to trust God. I say simply, but as an introverted master student, constantly seeking answers of the wonders of the world this is very hard. It's kind of a character flaw of me, the wanting to know it all. It became clear I need to stop worrying and let God take full control and just have faith. This is hard, but my choice is clear, I choose trusting God. I pray for everyone who face similair trails! Keep the faith, trust God!

Why does God test people? Many people think of tests as negative, often because their experience of tests in school was so stressful! But not all tests are bad. In fact, tests are a way to find out what’s true about a person--what they know or what they believe--so that they can see the areas in which they need to grow or change. In the story of the Bible, God wants to rule his world in partnership with his human images. And in the garden of Eden, God presents humanity with its first test. Will the humans trust God to teach them wisdom, or will they do what’s good in their own eyes? The human failure in the garden begins a downward spiral of failed tests through the book of Genesis, leading up to the great test of Abraham. Abraham is faced with an impossible choice-sacrificing the life of his son--but he trusts in the goodness of the one who is testing him and does what God asks. Abraham passes the test, and God intervenes and spares his son’s life. All of this leads to God’s promise that all nations will discover divine blessing through Abraham’s descendants. This cycle gets repeated throughout the story of the Bible. We see God’s covenant people Israel encounter many tests, but unfortunately they repeat the failure of the garden and continually choose their own understanding over God’s wisdom. The story of the Bible builds to the realization that humans will continue to fail these tests. They are in desperate need of someone who can pass the ultimate test and make right the covenant that was broken in the garden. All of this leads us to the story of Jesus. He passes the ultimate test by giving up his life for the sins of his people, and through him, God’s life and blessing goes out to all the nations. So while these tests are rarely easy, they are actually important opportunities for God’s people to grow and change, so that they can become agents of God’s blessing to the world around them. This is how the apostle James summarized this biblical theme: “Consider it an opportunity for joy, my siblings, when you experience different tests, knowing that the testing of your trust produces endurance. And let that endurance produce its final result, so that you may be whole and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:2-3). - Explore The Test: tbp.xyz/explorethetest - The Test Study Notes: tbp.xyz/theteststudynotes - The Test Script References: tbp.xyz/thetestscriptreferences - The Test Blog: tbp.xyz/thetestblog
