This is a review of my Koga Signature World Traveller.
I have toured on this bike for 11,000 km's total distance on the bike 14,000 km's. Some on very rough terrain. These are my thought on most of the components. www.koga-signat...

Very informative! Great review. Rare these days. So sick of these no effort “reviews” with only images set to music and no thoughtful content. Thank You! I’m a subscriber now!

I'm working on setting off on 3 years around the world from the UK, heading East. Still racking my brains for the bike to do it on. Looked at the Thorn Nomad with S&S frame for easier dismantling and its about the same price as the Koga 28 with beltdrive. Although the Thorn has a chain not a belt. Will spend the money, but just want something reliable and something with a lot of feel good about it. Good luck on your travels Chris

Thanx for the awesome video describing your bicycle. Looks like one kind of like the what Mark Beaumont pedaled around the world for the Guinness World Record in 2006.

Thank you. I've been going to do a review for such a long time. I've videoed bits at times and just didn't complete it, or like it enough. I thought after 14,000 km's it was time. In time I will do some more reviews on my new solar setup quad lock system etc.

V good review of a bike that's actually been used properly rather than a 1-2 weeks old bike ridden for only 50-100 miles. Rolloff and belt drive set up is what attracts me. You've obviously had very few no problems with it so highly desirable as a long term low maintenance option. Thanks for posting.

+Alex Morgan Thanks Alex. The belt drive and the rohloff are excellent. I did have a little trouble with the rohloff leaking a little oil in the heat of the desert. They tell me this is natural. The problem was it dripped onto the belt and squeaked for some time on the sandy roads. It's all good now just did it for a bit. There is another system the pinion 18 tomsbiketrip.com/eurobike-2014-will-the-pinion-p1-18-be-rohloffs-first-serious-competitor/ which seems good haven't used it.

Only your likely to pay around 7k AUD for it as it at the moment.

That seems like a pretty good deal to me, full setup with panniers and other equipment 9k for a bullet proof ride that will take you around the world, great for the older people as in the 40-50s

A fantastic review Chris, please tell me whee in Australia you purchased this bike or how you imported it, I'm keen to get the same.

Thanks. I bought it through the flying furniture bicycle shop in Canberra. They weren't really the best place for help etc. The bike also took 6 months to arrive from when I bought it. Probably best to go to the koga website and email them for advice. They are expensive but good quality.

Thanks Chris good video lots of imfo. Im seriously thinking of buying a touring bike and taking of for a few years im 53 so don't reckon im over the hill yet and can afford to do it. Iv been looking at Velosmith bikes that are made in Tasmania there not cheap but look like really good bikes have you seen any in your travels? How much weight do you carry on average in your front and rear panniers I don't have any experience with touring on bikes just no I want to do it . Cheers

hi, i'm quite new to Bicycle touring and i plan to drive from Holland to Istanbul (around 2700 km) is this a nice bike for such a drive?
@ChrisRishworth
@ChrisRishworth 10 жыл бұрын
Yes but you would be best to get one that is a 29 inch, model ( Bigger wheels make you go faster for less effort.), and if you can wait to June get one with the new pinion /p1.18/ Drive Technology. You should also figure out are you just riding on sealed roads or a mix of gravel and sealed. This could change your choice if you are just travelling on sealed roads. ?.

Hi Chris, what is the maximum weight that can be handled by KOGA world traveler or signature؟
@ChrisRishworth
@ChrisRishworth 6 жыл бұрын
I think it's 140 kg's. Not that you would want to carry trhat much weight.
@darzayed5199
@darzayed5199 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Chris. So, it is 140 and that include the weight of the rider and the package and the bike! So, it is impossible for a fat man to ride it on tour.

Is that 20Kg with the extras or without ?
@ChrisRishworth
@ChrisRishworth 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian. It''s 20.6Kg as ordered from the factory with racks handlebar bag, saddle bag, lights, rear carrier panniers, 2 bottles, pump.
@ian-c.01
@ian-c.01 10 жыл бұрын
It sounds heavy but it's only heavy compared to really lightweight bikes that could never take the kind of punishment and load that you use it for. I have a 15Kg bike, if I added steel racks front and back plus the same bags, bottles, pump and stands, it would probably be heavier (than yours) and nowhere near as capable. I was considering selling mine for a lighter one until I saw this vid and realised that I just need to train more.

Ian Clarke The Koga with it's 26 inch wheels and 50mm Mondial tyres slows me down compared to a 29 inch wheels with narrow tyres. I used to have a very light weight Mountain bike but I don't think it could take the load I have had on the Koga. Which can take 140 kg. The Rohloff is not light but ease of use is great. If you just road on the good roads you could get a much lighter bike for touring. When I was 13 years old I toured with my brother and did up to 200 km's a day. But that was on a 27 inch racer with much narrower tyres and lighter bike. Doing 200 km's these days is a lot more effort but I can turn of the road and hit the very rough tracks and still keep going. Horse for course cheers Chris.

apart from the belt drive, the stuff on your bike is stupid , if you are cycling in remote countries, as its hard to repair, keep it simple old school!
@ChrisRishworth

apart from belt drive? are you kidding me? you can service that bike anywhere, but the belt ? crank? a few spares of the rare parts and you are good. I use more traditional parts, but they do wear faster and require more repair. I think this Bike is up-scale, and low downtime for those that can go the extra $$, Nice bike Chris

This is where you are old school corrigeen, I must say your post is very much abrupt and would say it is from opening ones mouth before actual research into new age touring, thanks for the vid Chris
