I love how you guys were able to separate through traffic from local traffic, resulting in a safer network for everyone. Where I live we have a hybrid of said streets. You guys have set an example for the world. Job well done! Cheers from Canada!

I've watched a lot of these BicycleDutch videos... Obviously Dutch bicycle drivers have it made. Even in my small town in South Dakota USA, bicycle drivers are children, college students and the occasional oddball, like myself, who drives bike everywhere they go; you'd think in a small, supposedly friendly town the automobile drivers would cut us some slack. They don't. They don't look out for bicycles or motorcycles and consider them a nuisance. I'm always getting the bird flipped at me or drivers angrily passing me by after being stuck behind me for a half a block before I can get out of their way. They don't know and/or don't care they are supposed to share the road with bicycle traffic. None of this deters me however. I simply follow the laws and rules of the road and force the drivers to follow them, too. If drivers don't like it--too bad. I don't care.

@TheMNBlackBear
@TheMNBlackBear 3 жыл бұрын
@@leandrorandygantier5219 I drive the same way everywhere I go, i.e., joy-driving, commuting, grocery-getting--whatever. The automobile drivers here often yell, "Get up on the sidewalk, a-hole!"--or--"Get off the road!" Never. I drive only in the street. The walks are for pedestrians and I keep off, driving all the cars crazy. I love it when they give me a hard time, then get stopped by a red light up ahead. I will drive right up to their driver's side window and knock on it, smile, "Hey, how ya doin'? Whazzup?" They're usually scared and turn away and say nothing while I lecture them on how bikes are SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE ROAD and how they are SUPPOSED TO SHARE THE ROAD WITH ME. They don't like it, but too bad so sad. Other times I drive up and sit in front of their car, so they have to wait for me to get going when the light turns green. Then I make them follow me for a bit and really rub it in. Bartensen is fun to watch, but he and his pals are a hazard waiting to happen. Red light runners, no respect for pedestrians, etc. ... it's only a matter of time until somebody gets nailed. I take calculated risks often and push the limits, but I don't go looking for trouble or to get smooshed by a garbage truck while driving through red lights at dusk with no lights. Not smart.

I see a lot of mopeds. Any plan to reduce them on the cycleways in cities other than Amsterdam?
@tom.jacobs
@tom.jacobs 3 жыл бұрын
I think you have allergy for moped? In 40 min ride I see about 10 (25kmh/40kmh combined), and -didn't clip- saw a sign where the 40kmh where directed toward bike-line, so guessing they also take car-road where possible.. Problem at bike road (not that more and more people starting to use them) I see, is the differences in speed; from (10kmh) 🛴 via (20-25kmh) 🚴‍♂️, to the fast ebike/🛵 (45kmh) and all in between (ages, transport-modes). I thinks that's why more and more road-design are going to be altered towards "bike lane, car guest" roads, making more space to overhaul, because putting bike-lanes on the edges just isn't enough anymore. But in meantime (and cars are still so many/vital) putting the higher speeds (>25kmh) on road could be (temporarily?) solution. [although with the speed of the (e?)bike this video is shot, you can see some 🤏encounters, but mostly because bikes are pairing ]
@Malvictis
@Malvictis 3 жыл бұрын
@@tom.jacobs I think you are pro mopeds. See, I can speculate too. The point of the OP, the one that you missed out completely, is that mopeds are annoying in general (i.e. noisy as fuck) and have no business using the cycleways in particular for the simple fact that - guess what! - they are not bicycles. That being said, you and the the rest of the pro-moped people can fuck right off.

One thing I notice is that in a lot of places there's barely any pedestrian paths, only bicycle ones. Which is understandable given the dominant role of a bicycle in the NL. If the distance is longer than a bicycle - you cycle. However if we try to translate that design to Russia for instance we'll end up with much larger infrastructure footprint as we'd have a 3-meter pedestrian sidewalk + 3-meter cycle track. Which raises the costs of course. Which makes me think that if we ever want an abundance of cycling infra, we have to use something like a shared path which allows both walking and cycling on equal terms or even with pedestrian priority. Only in urban centers where full separation of foot and bicycle traffic is desired should we then have separate sidewalks and bike paths.
@BicycleDutch
@BicycleDutch 3 жыл бұрын
Only on the main roads. There people really don't walk in this country, but if they do, the path *is* shared. Everybody is allowed to walk on the cycleways when there is not footpath.
@vladimir.zlokazov
@vladimir.zlokazov 3 жыл бұрын
@@BicycleDutch yes that's what I'm talking about. However you can't have it that way in a country where bicycle traffic is a minority mode in the non-motorized space. I mean making a bicycle path and 'allowing' pedestrians walking on it while pedestrians are a majority mode. Thus I guess the way forward for us is something like the Finns have - a network of shared paths with separation only in sections of heavy traffic or when the street is upgraded as a whole. This way we could repurpose a pretty robust network of pedestrian paths that we have by only upgrading the intersections and driveway crossings to accomodate cycling safely.

I really hope one day they re do the bridge at 5:55. it is far too steep, confusing intersections, and doesn't need to be so high anymore as no carge ships are going through den bosch via that section of Zuid-Willemsvaart anymore. And seeing there are ideas to lower the orthen bridge (replace it with other bridge(s)) by the tramkade there probably won't be any through traffic anymore for the cargo ships. Then they could simplify the bridge at 5:55, and free up a lot of space as well, and it won't be as steep to cycle up.

can you tell me if these cycle routes are well lit at night? Also, would you be able to cycle at up to 30 mph on them if there were no other riders or is it too bumpy for this?
@dutchman7623
@dutchman7623 3 жыл бұрын
The entire route was in the build up area so all roads are well lit. All major cycle roads outside the build up area are lit as well. You are allowed to cycle fast and most of the time it is safe to do so. Most bumps are marked as speedbumps (piano stripes). And you will remember the unmarked ones once your saddle tries to throw your off. But only during the night roads are really calm and empty. The only spot where you have to be careful is at 6:00 where you cross a car road that is tilted, you cycle up, have a small dive, and up again. Wouldn't do that at 30 mph unless you are experienced in cyclecross.

@@chriscameron4618 because in england i like to go as fast as i can, and very often i am topping 30 miles per hour. However, our routes are so bumpy, indirect and full of pedestrians, you can't use them at that speed, so you have to use the road, which then attracts annoyed car drivers to try and run you over. Hence it seems better that if i went to these proper routes , i could ride my bike as fast as i want without either having to deal with pedestrians, bumps or cars.

I guess you wish you have the whole Dutch infrastructure. Don’t know with India, there seem to be a great potential in cognitive ability, or the country has a brain drain. However, Sadhguru said that organizing stuff is not a strong point of Indian people. But I can not understand why. Maybe it is the confusion to find excuses in explanations. While we Dutch acknowledging bad situations, put it in the group, plan the operation, and just begin, and never stop, with making our circumstances better. Basically we had an empty country, after WW2. Ever since we are building, and building it better.
