What an extremely biased video that just attacked everyone. It started blaming the opposition to the highway for the extremely inefficient design (really short and ending in a normal road), then it insults the city planners by not mentioning the new and more efficient highways that took over the traffic that was "filling every centimeter of the available space"

A real "high-quality cycling route" = free of cars (08:50) and has only asphalt as pavement. It should therefor be red after 09:41 too. Crossings at 11:33 and 12:11 has be done like it should be: priority for bikes and cars have to cross "up and over". Then why the stupid one at 15:37?? The cars have to slow down for the round-about anyway! 2 cars waiting and they block the bikeroute... 15:39 Shortest bikepath of the Netherlands? A point that will get accidents for sure: Bike no priority (says sign) but cars have to give way (see roadsign on the right at 15:46). The good route stops again at 20:58 with a boing. Grey, bumpy, cracks, no lighting... And again the same stupid crossing at 22:14. 23:25 tells the story that there is still a long way to go. Rise it, make cars slow down and they will give way. Besides the detours and the part after 27:39, this route is FAR from completion! It is at a moderate 7+ quality for now. (says a biker for all of his live from the Netherlands. I have seen much worse, I admit) ((nice to see the college at 39:18 on the left is in use. I helped building it. Still some pedestrian walkways to/from the station missing... I walked it daily for 7 months))

From the ferry just north of Culemborg I would continue taking a route though the villages 'De Heul', 'Schalkwijk' and the very bicycle friendy suburb 'Houten', and soon after very closely parallel to and west of the train tracks again, through 'Lunetten' all the way to train station 'Utecht Vaartsche Rijn', pass under the train tracks to the other side there and finish the short remaining distance to downtown Utrecht.

Bicycle lanes are just an extension of bicycle infurstructure. If we only used public transit on pedestrian zones streets are wide enough to meet demand for people without bike lanes. Vehicles are still extremely usefull but not private once if public transit and bicycle infrastructures convininient. But that is within the city, the F2 cycling route runs between cities so in my opinion is should be the most modern and continues bicycle lane without intersections and traffic lights at all, nor painted bicycle infurstructure and paved streets. There is too much space dominated to cars anyways why not dominate some dedicated to bikes one street isn’t anything cars litturally rule most of them. Btw as an urban planner I sometimes get too fur in the idea I think that I have to identify the significant improvements that the Netherlands have made even if not exactly ideal all the time.

I really don't understand the comments saying this is better than Copenhagen. In Copenhagen the bicycle lanes are *car lane wide*, with a curb seperating them from pedestrians and the car lane. Slower cyclists can easily be passed, and two people can cycle beside each other comfortably. The impression is given that on many streets which before were two car lanes in each direction, one car lane in each direction has been converted to a bicycle lane. This appearance is really that you matter as a cyclist. Reducing car space in favor of other modes of transport is how you massively improve a city. Compare this to Malmö, where the bicycle path always (?) is on the pavement, even on streets where there are two car lanes in each direction. Often only a painted line as "separation" from the pedestrians, as unfortunately is the norm in Sweden (I am Swedish). There are plenty of streets in Malmö with two lane car traffic in each direction. I feel like in Copenhagen those streets would have only one car lane in each direction and wide bike lanes instead. There really are a lot of cars in Malmö, you don't get the feeling that reducing car space has been done much at all.
