You need something much stronger than a bike horn to be honest. I know it's going to weigh the bike down, but a freighter ship's foghorn might do the trick.

Also tourists *stands in the way unaware that NYC is a city and not a zoo to just look at* No really it goes for any city really, there are people that live here!!! When i first visited New York i couldn't believe how terrible the infrastructure is for a supposedly first world country.. Not just for cyclist, but for everyone. The above is a prime example. If you came from much of Europe, the above wouldn't even register as being a bike lane. A few faded markings, suddenly disappearing & reappearing at random. Same colour as the walkway. i've seen much better in other US cities too. Notice six lanes dedicated to cars. That's the problem - equitable distribution of available space.

Garbage infrastructure design. The bridge is clearly not wide enough to have both bike and pedestrian traffic using it, hell it's barely enough for 2 way pedestrian traffic considering the amount of people on it. This is the reason biking fails, designers just find a random road or path, paint a bike icon on the road or path and expect it to work. Even though the route may not lead anywhere, is away from where people want to go, is in terrible shape or is unsafe. Like what is with those light poles in the way and the fence curved around the poles. Get rid of one of the traffic types on this route or widen that section, have better separation, paint the bike section a color, I mean hell half the bike icons on the ground have worn away, if a pedestrian isn't paying too much attention they wouldn't even know they are walking on a bikepath.

rjh00 I mean to remind you the Brooklyn Bridge is old as fuck. They’re already updating the Tappanzee Bridge so they don’t have enough to update another
@Arjay4046 жыл бұрын
That's not good enough, the bridge was old before they put the bikepath there, they should have realized that a bikepath where they put it just wasn't going to work or a good idea. Instead they should have maybe taken a care lane away and make it a bike lane or expanded the footpath.
@pierrevallet61886 жыл бұрын
Brooklyn bridge is a touristic bridge, by a Saturday in August, we know that the bridge will be totally overcrowded, furthermore if you are hurry, you could take Manhattan bridge. I know that riding Brooklyn bridge can be frustrating,but as bicycle users, we have to accepted the tourism on the bridge or change of town.
@Arjay4046 жыл бұрын
How far apart are the bridges? As in, how big of a detour is it from one bridge to the other? Aside from that, I agree with you that if Manhattan Bridge is more capable of handling the traffic bikers should use that one, but the city also has to forbid and get rid of the bikelane on Brooklyn. (at least in the manner they did it, if they converted a car lane in a bike lane it could still work, but don't know how that would affect car traffic (real affect not just typical complaints car drivers have whenever there is any downside for them). If you give bikers a lane that leads somewhere they will use it.
@Arjay4046 жыл бұрын
I just checked the distances on google maps and it's very reasonable, Brooklyn bridge should definitely not be a bike bridge in the state that it is now, there is a much better option closeby, with only a small detour, which would be much safer and better for everyone involved, also probably much quicker on some days depending on the pedestrian traffic, what good is a shorter route if you have to go at a snails pace to avoid crashing into anyone.

@@SchoolforHackers don’t know what the dynamics of it are, but in this particular case at this time, pedestrians should be prioritized since they have the numbers by a huge amount. You wouldn’t make the Highline a bike lane. Obviously they should probably just increase the size of that platform if they can.

Bikes need to have a dedicated lane down on the road. As NYC population rises it will have to change one day. That bridge will be crammed.

New York .. wtf? Just remove one of the 20 car lanes and give it to the cyclists. This is shit.

unfortunately new york runs on the myth that more car lanes = less congestion

Bike lane road signs over Brooklyn bridge in contrast to regular roads are few and that too are quite erased making them inconspicuous to mainly tourist passengers, your cycling abilities are really appreciable.Thanks.

Why is their a bike lane in the pedestrian walkway anyway? I agree you guys are entitled to your own space but this time it looks like your space is on pedestrian space, it would be impossible for them not to flood over to your lane, it's too tight a space and their are too many people. I guess don't bike on the damn bridge huh? Or better yet, have some humility and patience, notice how there were other bikers too and not a single one of them shouted or yelled at a single person.

Well, if im not mistaken, some US majors (or some relevant folks) visited the Netherlands to have a look on our bike infrastructure. It's really not that hard, just gotta put some will behind it!
@JutlandAngel7 жыл бұрын
Problem is that in the US people don't really use bikes. Cycling is often just seen as a niche sport and not a transport option. At least that's what I've gathered from how people from the US complain about cyclists.

Don't know why I feel cycling seems to be frustrating than relaxing
@ShaidHosain3 жыл бұрын
It's because of other people not being aware of their surroundings, while in public. Also, would be more relaxing if other people did not exist

Whatta mess! And the fact that vendors are on the pedestrian side it doesn’t help either. Too many people for cycling, walking, jogging, taking pics, etc in such small pathway.

I tell you that people on the upper west side know better than to walk in the bike lane I have seen people get knocked unconscious by walking and not looking in the bike lane #respectthebikelane

No, way too many people for a 50/50 split with a bike lane. Vehicles belong on the road, period. Not on the sidewalk.

People actually did a decent job walking on the right side, I've experience much worse. Costing me about 10 minutes to cross the bridge. It's obviously very frustrating being a citizen of NYC. Lanes are extremely narrow to be fair.

Im trying to understand why some people hear the bell, the horn and the mans voice and literally dart INTO the bike lane. Or why, on some parts there is no crowding, more than enough room in the pedestrian lane and people walking in the bike lane....
@cubbykovu89555 жыл бұрын
This whole entire crossing was NOT thought out well AT ALL why not have two separate crossing doodads one for bike and one for people separated and then you have two way bike on the bike one too :)
