Wow!! Great video. Super clear and informative. Thank you. I can't tell you what a big deal electric blankets have been in the history of this family. They work for a while, and then they die. We do know how to care for them and we rarely if ever wash them for fear of damage...besides, the entire blanket is double wrapped in a sheet. So we never have to unplug it. We don't cram them under the bed. But they eventually just die. You've motivated me. Thanks

ATTENTION PEOPLE: PLEASE WATCH UNTIL THE VERY END OF VIDEO FOR SIMPLE SOLUTION/FIX!!! I was initially going to click off this video because I was like, WTF.. I don’t have a soldering kit and I’m sure as heck not going to open up the components like that! But he is just showing us all of that as part of his thorough explanation. The solution/fix does NOT require any of that. Just FYI for those might feel intimidated by initially seeing the components opened up like that: You won’t have to do any of that! I almost missed the ending, but happy I watched the whole thing. Thank you, sir, for posting this video!!

Thank you sooo much for posting this helpful repair. I searched the internet for a replacement control and the only one I could find for the type of blanket I have was a used one for $40.00. I could almost buy a brand new one for that amount. I did what you said and now my blanket works as good as new! Again, THANK YOU!!!

I have a vintage NOS General Electric blanket that I tried using a few nights ago. It was heating, but not as much as it should have. I'm going to try this; also, I'm going to polish the pins with emory cloth to remove any oxidation and use a pin to dig any gunk out of the receiving holes in the controller cord. Thank you!

Thanks for this. Did the control stop working because of this poor connection -- indicator light not working? Or did the control and indicator light appear fine but the blanket just wouldn't heat?

I seem to have an entirely different issue. My controller doesn't even turn on. Doesn't light up, even plugged in and switch turned on. I'm not sure why or how it broke, but it did. My hope is that its a bad solder point and not any of the resistors/capacitors on the pcb, cuz that's about the only things I have the tools for. I need to get a multi meter one of these days

I never had trouble with any of my electric blankets, I have a couple so I can change them and wash them, the only problem that I did have was it wasn't heating up and that problem was a break in the control cord, even though I could've of fixed it, I just got another control and that corrected it.

Often in the pigtail box on trailer you have to spead prongs to make contact and lights work on trailer.

I'm trying to fix my blanket. It stopped working after about the second wash. Had this worked after you washed it?
@cranebeg22 күн бұрын
My problem is something in the blanket itself, I've broken 3 controllers 😓, any ideas?

I have a Biddeford heated, throw blanket that we bought back in December that all the sudden keeps shutting off to where you have to unplug it from the wall and from the blanket to reset it so I kind of doubt ours is having the same problem yours did so being that it’s like impossible to get a hold of somebody from the company, do you have any recommendations on what I should check to try to get my blankets to work again? Which, it’s not that it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t stay on, and it doesn’t matter what heat sending you have it set to, it just turns off like some kind of protection circuit is turning it off.

Hi. Thank u for the video. Mine doesn’t power on to begin with. So not sure how to test this. Did urs power on but not heat up? In that case it makes sense to do what u did. Do you have any suggestions? It was hardly used so I hate to throw it out just yet.
@DakotaBusy10 ай бұрын
Correct. Mine powered on but didn’t heat. You could try to open up the control box and see if there are any issues. Maybe a fuse in there?? Just make sure it’s unplugged before you dive in!

I tried this but it didn't work sadly. I get no continuity for the two center sections.

Sadly, the fix didn't change anything for mine. The blanket only worked about 3 months. Never got a response from Biddeford warranty claims, they have a very underhanded way of making you register for a warranty and I kind of think it's probably not a real thing.
@summertime9629 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! We’ve been through 4 Biddeford electric blankets & last night two of the controllers just stopped working. There’s no doubt that much like Apples blatant Planned obsolescence essentially everything is infected with the same shenanigans, from all apple products, Samsung of course, our microwave, fridge & the dozen of barely used printers that of course won’t work. Anymore. 😠🤯
@Dabawar Жыл бұрын
If you call Biddeford directly, they will send you a new controller. No warranty registration needed.
@jasonmitchell76772 жыл бұрын
Did that cause the light to not work as well?
@DakotaBusy2 жыл бұрын
No. The light was still working for me. If the light is out, it’s probably something more complicated to fix.

Only 2 of the wires are need. Look at your blanket.
@spaceted39772 жыл бұрын
It's pronounced BIDDYFORD !!! Bideford !!!! Whenever I have an electric blanket that goes wrong it's always one of the very thin wires in the blanket !!!!! They don't take solder, you can't crimp them and you can't spot weld them, so they go in the bin and I buy a new one !!!! I buy ones that only have a double connector to the blanket and not four like yours !!!! Either Beurer heat pads or Dreamland, or my Livivo Electric Throw is OK, but the rest are Chinese Garbage that won't last a month !!!!
@summertime9629 Жыл бұрын
Your explanations of the pronunciations really honestly didn’t help clear up much of anything on that question- not that it matters cuz instead of knowing exactly how the garbage brand name is pronounced, whether it’s Bid-Dee-ford Biddeford, Hartford, Ford, or Sunbeam i believe they’re all as you stated, all CHINESE 🇨🇳 made garbage that’s especially made terribly I think because of the blatant-Planned Obsolescence. I & these giant bloated companies completely understand the “JUST THROW IT AWAY & BUT A NEW ONE “!!!!!!!!!!” 🤔 But that’s sorta exactly the opposite of the point because ppl don’t have gobs of $£€ to keep buying these things several times a year. I will look into your suggestions of the other brands. I’d never heard of them. But thank you nonetheless! !!!!!!!!!!!! 😆🙃😜!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❗️ LOL
@spaceted3977 Жыл бұрын
@@summertime9629 They are Brands sold on Amazon, and I was explaining when you take them apart, why they can`t be repaired if they go wrong !!!! Dreamland and Beurer have been around for Decades. If you won`t buy anything that`s made in China then you must live in an Empty Room and spend most of your time twiddling your thumbs !!!!
