Pictures! The shipper should’ve taken pictures of the parts before shipping to protect themselves against claims. And the buyer should have stipulated that he wanted pictures to protect himself from being shipped damaged goods.

The shipper is always responsible for packing the part well enough that it will not be damaged in normal shipping. He owes you your entire billable parts and labor charge for all the work you will have to go through to make that panel right, plus some for the aggravation. Taking the time to pack parts well does NOT take a LOT of time. Good packing IS shipping insurance.

Vlad, please keep us posted on what transpires with the quarter panel. I know you’ll handle it professionally but my thought is given that you paid top dollar for it, they should discount your full retail estimate to fix it to OEM spec…that would be fair in light of moving things forward

They should have used a wooden crate for this kind of packaging, instead of cutting old water tank and covering the rest in cardboard and bubble wrap. Some part breakers in UK seems to be loosing common sense lol.

I don't think so. I think the packaging job wasn't that good, hence shipping damage. But who's responsible? It depends on the Terms and Conditions of the sale.

Man Vlad, you're the man! Know the right people and get nice whips for customers.. Worth going to you.. Only thing, when you're going thru some of these cars wear gloves please! Don't wanna catch anything.. The shipping process often damages products. Ultimately it's how it's packaged on the sellers part. That quarter should've been wrapped in at least bubble wrap, if not in a box with the filling. So between the two..

Loved the video Vlad. I'd blame the supplier obviously the rear wing didn't have enough protection, if it was me I wouldn't have put it on the pallet with the rest of the parts.....it should have been separate.

I think this is the best one youve ever done ,let me explain,its easier to bid when you have someone telling you they want it because the pressure is off on can you sell it,? the cars a great colour ,those guys who specialise came across as great, ive now stopped giving good advice like they do after a lifetime of customers taking my time but not listening but then coming back weeks later and hoping i can pull them out of the lagoon ,as regards shipping and damage i usually take it in the neck but i think the company that sent it from the uk either charles trent or synetiq ?will be sympathetic to your pain, i believe putting the parts in a stillage cut down waa a brilliant idea and im sure they will learn from the feedback and compensate you

You get all spares for any brand of the shelf in US? Or respective company first check where parts are going and then provide you spares?

The seller should have packaged everything and placed it in a long large strong wooden crate with additional protection around the items. To package it and stick half the quarter what we in uk call a steel ‘Tote Bin’ is completely irresponsible. The seller needs to act considerably more professionally and they certainly owe you a big time discount for the damage, your time and materials repairing it! Good luck Vlad you’re the most professional and enjoyable salvage rebuilder on KZbin. Your workshop is everybody’s dream, fantastic! I thought you got the car at a fair price, the dented fender from england was a bummer. thankfully there seems to be no frame damage so these types of rebuilds LNC is best at !

⁠​⁠@@alexandrosmilonakos447Still the sellers fault. Shipping companies sign you a no fault contract when you want to send packages with them. Kinda a shitty thing, but it’s just the way things are. Seller got or needs to include the % of loss in the price of the product, so the loss they inquire from loss in manufacturing, shipping damage and customer fraud won’t impact them.

Unfortunately it depends on the incoterms agreed when purchasing. Did the purchaser pay for insurance , was that the shippers responsiblity etc

This is funny...we were the ones bidding on this...LoL. Had to throw in the towel becuase we also needed to ship to ATL, plus we did hear there was rear sub-frame damage. So good luck and double check those measurements!

I assume you saw detailed photos of the panels before agreeing to buy? Judging by the packaging and amount of bubble wrap used it appears the quarter panel was damaged in transit. Hopefully the shipped parts were all insured so thats where your claim is at. Good luck and hope you reach a satisfactory conclusion. I'm from UK myself but don't work for McLaren!! 😀

This will be a fun ride - the collision repair and the customer's actual ride. The seller should be responsible for the damaged quarter panel. Even if packed well it can be damaged by shipping, hence they should have carried insurance on the parts and shipping, not you, the buyer!

Packaging should be done properly by manufacturer/seller. No shipping company or buyer is responsible for damage to cargo.

In my opinion I reckon the seller is responsible. From what I could see the packaging was done to minimise cost rather than protect the parts. At the least the panel should’ve been in a crate of some kind. Freight is based on dimensions as well as weight so looks they just packed everything into as small a space as possible 🤔

It has to be always the seller. If something is damaged the only thing you have to provide is pictures of the damage. Everything else has the seller to figure out with the delivery company. That's why it is important to always open and inspect expensive stuff right at the moment when you get them, best case with the delivery company still there, worst case documented with a video.

Transit damage should by the responsibility of the shipping company. At the time of shipping who ever paid for it should have had the opportunity to purchase damage valuation. If they or you didn't purchase the valuation you only get a little bit based on the weight of the shipment. Kind of like scrap value.

Looking again at the damage it is obvious that the 1/4 panel is painted with colour and clear and was fitted to a car in the past . Vlad you bought a secondhand used quality panel with a lot of damage .

If they are a professional salvage yard that ships worldwide they should refund you the amount equal to labor and materials to repair the quarter. They should know how to properly secure body panels so they don't get damaged in transit.

Relating to the damage panel, check your sale agreement with the UK vendor and see what shipping terms you guys agreed. Is if FOB (free on board) shipping point, you're responsible for the damage, but if FOB destination, then the UK vendor is responsible for any damage.
