While this may have future implications I’m excited to add this as part of my story! This number has been haunting me for too long. I’m thankful. It helps.

Thanks for the balanced conversation. It’s all good right now, but the consequences of this move are TBD.

I agree with you both. It sounds good to some in the short term. But the money has to come from somewhere. And that somewhere is usually the American people including those who will receive the loan forgiveness.

Re: "This money's going to have to come from somewhere, and we're going to end up on the hook somehow." First off, the amount of debt being forgiven is less than the amount created by the capitalized interest on the original loans. I get it. Someone signed a paper. They should pay. Look how many did pay--and have paid off all their principal but are underwater in interest. (1)This money can come from any of our Fortune 500 companies and billionaires who haven't even been paying income taxes for the past 35 years. (2) This money could be cut out of our insane Defense budget--already more than that of the rest of world combined, we could cut it in half and still be spending more than the next 9 or 10 highest spenders combined. If that's not enough to be safe, you have to admit we must be doing it wrong. (3) It could come from the over $100 billion of taxpayer money we hand over every year in corporate welfare to companies already making the most. Why is it okay to double the wealth of our billionaires during Covid, but make a big deal about handing $1200 to someone working to make ends meet and tell them it should hold them over for 4 months? Are you kidding? Other first world countries were paying their citizens full salaries to stay home during lockdown to keep from spreading contagion and death, but what was the wealthiest nation in the world doing? Shaming it's poor for not being at work and risking their lives for a minimum wage that's now been stagnant for the longest period of time in the history of our country. Talk about a poverty mindset.
