Joe, let me correct you about Macron. There are many political parties in France so there are 2 rounds of voting. The first vote is for every party, there are about 5 major parties. Macron’s party was polling in the low 20’s but enough to make it to the second vote. The second vote is for the political parties that finished 1st and 2nd. For the 2nd round of the election which is held a few weeks after the first vote, Macron was polling more than 50% and he was elected president again. Macron was facing Marine Lepen, the leader of the far right political party in France.

I agree wholeheartedly with Joe on following the trends and not assuming that any particular snapshot is going to hold. My observations: With only six months left before the election, five months before early voting in some places, we're kind of approaching the time period when not much usually changes, but we're not there yet, and we should be mindful of a year like 1980, when the lion's share of undecideds shifted to Reagan the last weekend. This showed up in private tracking polls that Carter had the results of. This is quite a different situation because both men have already been president. 2016 was more like 1980 than 2024 is. And then there's good ol' 1968, with riots at the Chicago convention and chaos in the streets of the cities around the country. Yes, there's a big difference between sacrificing only money and weapons in a war compared to sending young Americans to die in it, but the same thing could happen to Biden. If Americans focus on details and facts, instead of how they feel, then Biden wins, because Trump would sacrifice Ukraine and Palestine. Anyone have confidence that enough Americans will focus on details and facts in 2024?
