_________________________________
In this video we are going to reupholster an old „German Biedermeier“ chair. The old construction is removed, and completely original rebuilt. We use traditional upholstery materials such as jute strap, springs, palm fibers for the filling, and horsehair.
The chair is intended for our exhibition in the upholstery workshop, so it was upholstered only half. This makes it easier to see the construction and the effort of upholstery.
Note: These are not instructions, but an insigt into the work of an upholstery
I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for all the nice comments. Since some have asked why the chair was only upholstered in half. The chair is intended for our exhibition in the upholstery shop and a historical market, it makes it easier to see the construction and effort of the upholstery.

A craftsman built that chair nearly 200 years ago. Would he ever have imagined that it would survive for a modern day craftsman to restore it so beautifully. Fantastic, bravo, Bellissimo.

That chair must have fantastic stories to tell.. The things it's heard... Daily things about the normal life of its owners and their pets, their kids' births, schooling, marriages, deaths of family and friends, wars, peace announcements, new technologies, sunny days, storms, floods, maybe earthquakes... It's "seen" humanity go from horse drawn carriages and walking to the space age!!! From 1 billion people to 8 billion... From pitch black nights to light pollution... What will it "see" in the next 200 years?

I finally realized that this was a demonstration piece. It was fascinating to see the springs being tied together. I knew about horsehair stuffing but not the palm leaf fiber. I need to read more about that. The green pulverizing machine was great fun to watch.

I look at antique furniture and I see a family. I think someone sat or ate or slept in it. They raised families, had good times, bad times . For me this is what antiques represent, a past life. I think they are warm and beautiful and each has a story to tell if we could but know it.
