Fantastic insight into this amazing film and shows how America and Britain can come together to make a great production. James was very close to some of his British co workers, and Sigourney's parents were English, so it's silly to bad mouth each country, everyone has ties to the other :-)

Just some minor cultural differences. We Brits often say 'love' to a woman like we say 'mate' to a man, its a non issue with no sexual, sexist or romantic intent. I don't agree with the Yanks on the tea breaks either as 15 mins is nothing and you'll find their productivity would have incresed after a cuppa and a sandwhich. And if calling Cameron 'grizzly adams' is the rudest thing Lance Henrickson has ever heard, he's led a very sheltered life for a New Yorker.....

Tea or not, British film crews are the best in the world and were in constant demand in the 70s and 80s. Their genius is up there on the screen. 2001, The Shining, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Aliens. Oh, did I mention James Bond? I'm a Brit and very proud of it. Tea and a lunchtime pint gives us our power....

Well said, this is why Fox sent the production team to Pinewood. Cameron is an amazing director and the Brit's were amazing set creators which resulted in one AMAZING film.
@TechnologicallyTechnical5 жыл бұрын
@@ohio He was on a tight time schedule, from what I understand the film hardly got done in time, so I don't see how it's fair to blame him for getting annoyed when a shot gets interrupted. Christian Bale also got quite annoyed in a similar fashion working on Terminator Salvation, and he's a Brit.

It was all a huge clash of cultures betwn the Brits & the Americans on the Aliens set..the key was to accomodate each other..the Americans were single-minded on the job at hand & the director wanted the whole thing to wrap on time, in order to avoid additional costs & break the given budget..but the Brits were more laid-back & simply wanted to play..the tension betwn them actually had enough drama to make a movie within a movie..if only they were each informed beforehand abt each other's working style.. & the poor tea lady must have wondered why the constant angry look on James Cameron face everytime she walked in with the goodies..if only she knew she was possibly one of the causes that could have cost Cameron a few extra millions..😉😆!

@wayne33022643 жыл бұрын
I can understand the tight budget and time constraints but when dealing with people you must remember they are not machines. People can be tricky things when attempting to get their best work out of them. There comes a time when concessions must be made to keep the crew somewhat happy with what they are doing which will be reflected in the quality of work they perform. A great leader knows how to get the best out of his people and this is an attribute overlooked by many folks in leadership roles that think that everyone has to bow and do everything as they say without any regard to those folks own humanity. Just a small compliment or calling someone by name when directing them can work wonders on that persons attitude throughout the day because they have been humanized instead of being treated like a machine. Many organizations have around a ten minute pow wow time before starting a shift just to let folks voice some thoughts or exchange pleasantries and have found this keeps the crew happy and their production goes up and more than covers for the loss of the ten minutes work time because this lets folks know they are not thought of as machines to be turned on at shift start and turned off when the shift is over.
@IronRooRoo12 жыл бұрын
Exactly. All the Brits defending this crew are out of order. There's no excuse for being that slack on a tight schedule. If you're employed by someone and you know that the schedule is short, I think it's about time to stop fucking around. For example, if I were a CEO going overseas to lead a team, and they all insisted on regular breaks. And when I complained about it, they call me ignorant and tell me to go back to my own country. It's a bogus excuse. This crew were unprofessional.

The difference being one's an actual person and the other's a film. It can be easy to tell someone's nationality or ethnicity by their appearance. With a film you'd have to look into it's production by, say, watching a documentary on it to know how many of it's crew were a certain nationality. Aliens having a British involvement is hardly common knowledge.

It's all very well saying Tea is gay (how does what you drink, & what you like the taste of define your sexuality?) & how could we not see the genius of Cameron's vision, & so forth. But that's just it.. It's Cameron's Pet Project. And all those thousand other people who helped to make this film get no recognition for torturing themselves to get it all done his way. I didn't know that this film had any large amount of European people involved in it's production until watching this documentary. I seriously doubt anybody came here just because of that. It's more likely that a Brit would feel obligated to comment because the video and comment section is talking about them (although lots of people seem to be confusing 'the crew' with 'all British people'). Why does it matter anyway?

The fact of the matter is that Jim Cameron is the boss. If you're getting paid to do a job, you do it. That doesn't mean dicking around taking tea breaks every hour, then refusing to do overtime because of the great big hole in schedule you've left as a result of all your breaks. This isn't a matter of respecting British culture; it's a matter of getting a slack crew to pull their fingers out and do some work. I'm on Cameron's side.
