it also teaches us many stuff about real life thing. like population control. we, human, NEED TO CONTROL OUR POPULATION. And when we control our population growth, that means controlling our housing. and along the way, there gotta be surplus of humans. some gonna be homeless. but after some times, there gonna be some deficit like in japan condition today. IT'S ALL NORMAL. CONTROL OUR GLOBAL POPULATION. IT HELPS TO STABILIZE OUR RESOURCES USAGE. STABILIZE OUR GLOBAL CLIMATE.

Tips: 1) You can task laborers to "collect everything" in a small area a little distance from your village. This will give you a short boost to available logs, ore and stone, and the forest will slowly replenish the 'bald spot' you leave behind without having to asign a forester job. 2) when you start farming, try to make each plot small enough so that one person can work it efficiently. Lots of smaller farms end up giving you more food than a few large ones with multiple farmers working it. 3) Make multiple "forester, hunter, gatherer" enclaves around your main town to keep a steady supply and variety of food coming in long term.

I literally played this yesterday! Excellent stuff. I always keep the gatherer's hut pinned, so I can see the ring around it and make sure it is packed with trees, which maximise the output for it, the forester's hut and the hunters, which I put right next to it. Make a crossroads in the centre between them, and stick storage and a couple of huts next to them. That crossroads will form the backbone of a large community way easier than other food sources.

I love Banished my fav game, I like to start off in Adam and Eve mode (2 people) thats quite the challenge, but it takes much longer to get established. Regarding the roads, you can make them diagonal by holding down shift. You need storage close to production areas, otherwise they have to walk all the way to the village to store products such as fish etc which will negatively effect productivity

Love this game playing since it came out. TIP; when a shop reaches the resource limit like clothing they will become a labourer until they need to go make more clothing so no need to micro that unless you just want to change their profession, which is often needed at the beginning of the game.

Great to see you back at Banished. Teacher: I always set one extra on the Teaching job... if there is no work, they act exactly as a labourer; current teacher dies, they slot right into the job and you don't have to worry about not having a spare labourer. Of course you add a new extra teaching job as the old one dies. I always hated losing all my educated chillun. cheers Biffa

In Dawn of Man, you could set production limits to a percentage of the population. It could be more or less than 100%, depending on whether you wanted a surplus for trade or not. That's a pretty clever mechanic. If your population remains steady, your people will automatically make replacements for any tools or clothes that are worn out, and if your population grows, your stock of items will grow to match.

To clarify the point about markets creating even distribution, without using mods, the priority order for resource storage is (1) markets, (2) houses, (3) storage barns. Until you build a market, everyone will take what they harvest/make to THEIR house, and the leftovers are taken to the storage barn. That is why you saw the fisher delivering fish to the fisher's house BEFORE taking the rest to the storage barn. As with real life, houses don't share resources, so whatever is stored in houses is only available to the residents of THAT house. So, citizens WILL starve to death, even though the house directly next to theirs has food, and they WILL freeze to death, even though the house directly next to theirs has firewood and clothing. It is 100% accurate to real life. However, markets being the highest priority for resource storage, all resources will be taken directly to the market, THEN the nearby households will buy whatever that they need from the market, and the leftovers will be taken to the storage barn. In addition, after you build a market, all the nearby households will dump all their resources into the market, THEN buy back whatever they need. So, markets FORCE even distribution. Ignore your stats. Simply harvesting/making resources is useless. If you want ALL your citizens to have those resources, markets are what distribute them to your citizens. As such, the most efficient town layout is to build a market first, then build houses in concentric rings around the market. Think of it like a series of squares. Four rows of houses, a market, four rows of houses, a market, four rows of houses, and so on. Or, you can build little enclaves with a market at the center.

If I remember right you should not need to close jobs, nor remove builders as they will act as laborers if they have nothing to do. I'd forget to add people as they are needed then wonder why I have no firewood in late autumn. I keep thinking about dusting off the old Banished and giving it a go. Maybe I should try to Colonial mod. I looked into it a few times but always felt overwhelmed by all the new options, and ended up playing without it. It is nice to see a youtuber going back to playing older games. So many only play the newest stuff, but often revising old games is just as fun as something new...especially if it is one of the better games that has not been fully matched since it came out.
