34:43 - the vehicles can't change lane where they merge into the 3+3 because it's turned off so everyone is staying in the lanes they were in from the highway and turning at the junction based on that. The obsession with dedicated turning lanes has forced people to leave the highway from the sliproad at 28:45 and 43:29 as well.

Hey, you can use the Traffic Manager settings to improve the AI. That'll make your traffic all stack up in one lane when the next lane is empty and goes to the same place.
@p753694 жыл бұрын
For roundabout lanes, you're a bit backwards: ideally, you want as many lanes as there are exits (not counting the road you enter by) and your entry road would ideally have the same number of lanes as their are exits. The idea being that you choose your lane before you enter the roundabout and you stay in it until you leave (using the spiral lane layout, not concentric circles).
@BeckettSmeckett4 жыл бұрын
Spiral roundabouts are so annoying I hate driving on them. There's a spiral roundabout near where I live that isn't marked properly and is awful.
@p753694 жыл бұрын
@@BeckettSmeckett When done correctly, a spiral roundabout shouldn't hinder you as all they actually do is highlight where you should be driving anyway.
@Thederpman43 жыл бұрын
I've always been wondering about that because with the way Biffa builds roundabouts, the innermost lane is usually useless because you can't switch lanes in the roundabout. With the "dedicated turning lanes" and the inability to change lanes, the only useful lane is the rightmost one.

I hate to backseat game with you, Biffa, but a couple tips: 1) Try playing with the road's speeds. Around 40 min mark, you're busy with an city block, and a highway is only in and out that section. Maybe if that piece had a lower maximum speed (80 or 70 iso 100 or a 2-lane highway), it could better the flow the traffic from the highway to the intersection/roundabout. 2) Some metro lines in this map is fantastic: they go from one hotspot to the other, similar to what IRL metros do. Busses can be an extension to those lines. 3, most importantly) Since this is an old map, I'm glad you've gotten better in your craft. Love seeing your work. ✨ Ok, enough backseat gaming. Do what you please with those tips! 😁

33:57 Bus stops on little roads ... looks like you improvised a bus terminal in the pre-DLC almost-vanilla era. Actually a smart idea: the interdistrict bus line brings drops off people ar the dead end road bus terminal (where they can interchange to local busses) and goes directly back to the highway. What this city needs are inter-district main roads - traffic between neighbouring districts would then not go through your highway connections.

A bit of suggestion with your airport: 1. Use the mod "Airport Roads" and extend the runway to twice the length of its current length. Extend it towards inland, not towards offshore. 2. Extend the taxiway to get to the extended end. 3. Change the planes's approach path into the airport (IIRC there's a mod for it). Make it approach headibg towards the sea (IRL wind blows inland & pilots take advantage of "Headwind" (wind blowing towards the aircraft fron the front to the back; wind blowing into the sides is called "Crosswind") to slow down to land. 4. Optional but if you want somw realism, use the "Better Planes Pack" to get real-life airliners. There's tons of 'sub-packs' available, one which has all old airliners, another one with medium-haul jets & one has all-jumbos & superjumbos.

@24:51 minutes in, Biffa says that you should have one more lane on the roundabout, than the lanes coming in. I disagree, I think you should have one lane per exit ! *_And that is because the game will try to put a car one lane out, for each exit it has to pass._* - Cars that need the first exit, will be in the outmost lane. - Cars that need the second exit, will be in the second outmost lane until the first exit, and then switch to the outermost lane when it passes that, and exit out on the second exit. - Cars that need the third exit, will be in the third outermost lane until the first exit, and then switch to the second outermost lane when it passes that until the second exit, and then switch to the outermost lane when it passes that, and finally exit out on the third exit. Thus, in a roundabout, with 4 connected roads, one will be an entrance and 3 will be exits, and you will need 3 lanes for optimal transfer. Also, the connected roads, should have "pick a lane" option on the connecting roads, so they can pick the optimal lane.

Gotta admit tho... When re-opening very old cities we did half a decade ago... These cities had lots of personality, we may not know what we were doing as much as we do today, but that translated into us doing 'whatever works' with the limited vanilla items and very very few mods. I feel my new cities may be more sanitized traffic-wise and definitely better planned overall... But they feel like they have less personality... Well until I hit over 75-100k in my case. I think that's why I spend so many hours (maybe a hundred? ) trying to fix my first city and boy, yours looks easy by comparison =)

I reckon 90% of traffic problems in Cities: Skylines could be boiled down to either excessive traffic lights or over-capacity roundabouts and cloverleafs. EDIT: Biffa, at that highway T-junction you started fixing at 31:11 you're preventing anyone coming on from the highway from changing lanes at all as you've disallowed lane changing at the junction between the highway and the 6-lane road. Notice how nobody is changing lanes any more at all.
