I would say another great way to test traffic without mods is Post offices. Each post office is 10 post vans and 2 trucks, with the sorting stations using 20 trucks. Put a couple dozen those down and watch them flood your streets. If your city doesn't break you did good.

Given the orginal city builder had long stretches of the high way with the "no lane changes" it's a pretty big problem with the city. Some times I don't think biffa noticed the previous lane changes before he added his own. The end result is however the same, entire routes being rendered invalid due to the fact people coming off a ramp can't shift out and are forced to take the next exit.

That kinda bothered me as well

@@JustaGuy_Gaming It's something I noticed he does a lot. That thing with the lane connector where he forces every car to merge only one direction. But in this instance even if he'd left it the way it was, with each car able to stay straight or merge one lane left or right between the on and off ramp, the cars in the far left lane still couldn't take that next exit. There needs to be 3 nodes between those ramps with the lane connector allowing each lane to go straight, or merge one lane left or right

I love these videos, I watch them to relax when I want to go to sleep. Watch everything you post. Keep it up! Just a heads-up though, Biffa, the sequence of lane-changing rules you put into this section around the minutes before and after 18:10 resulted in half the trucks on the highway being unable to access the sliproad to the cargo depot. Only the trucks that came from one out of the two sliplanes at the roundabout junction could successfully get to the depot. So you might want to undo that, cos you'll have trucks needing to go all over the city in a convoluted pattern in order to get to the right part of the roundabout junction to access the sliproad.

One of the main things to good traffic(even without traffic manager) is planning your city. Most cities with bad traffic are just badly designed and have a couple of bottlenecks. I always start my cities with making a plan where my different areas will be and where i will extend my highway network(same goes for train network) and then I start with my city. often the bottleneck is that people got a point where everything comes together or from a lack of access points to a city/zone. Works without any mods

I think this is the first time I've seen Biffa do a 2 part traffic fix!!! :O I'm shocked...
@thesteelrodent17962 жыл бұрын
I generally look at the traffic like if there are a lot of cars, then you need more buses and passenger trains. If you have a lot of trucks, then you need a better network of cargo trains, closer to the commercial zones where they usually end up. If you do your public transport well enough you can almost completely eliminate private vehicles, and with the freight trains you can isolate the worst traffic to very small areas. Literally the best way to deal with heavy traffic is to ensure you don't get any. You can grow your city much bigger and faster if you plan around using trains (and metro, trams, busses, a.s.o.) right from the start because the traffic won't ever build up as much. Personally I like playing with despawning off, because when things start to jam it will often despawn busses and taxis first, and not get rid of anything else till the traffic stops completely, and the despawning makes it difficult to tell where exactly things go wrong and what you need to do to make it right. I don't agree with everything Biffa does as much of it only works short term - long term you need to rethink the layout of your city. You can go a long way just by ensuring main roads don't have industry on only one side for instance, or by making sure commercial traffic doesn't have to go through narrow residential areas
@METALFREAK034 жыл бұрын
I could watch you fixing cities for an eternity. So don't worry about editing :)

Around 20:00 - the whole issue there is the by-pass. At one side you have two dual-lanes connecting to four lanes and on the other side the most extreme lane of the original merging lanes is recycled as the lane-off for the by-pass. Loads of traffic wants to evade being pushed onto the by-pass. Looks to me like a big part of the problems are the by-pass tunnels in combination with the forced lanes.

18:18 where the traffic is coming onto that highway, traffic is being slowed because the right lane is forced to go into a turning lane, and they don't want to be in a turning lane! So you could also force the oncoming right lane into the first TWO right lanes, and the oncoming left lane into the 3rd lane of the highway. This shouldn't cause too many issues since the highway coming from under the roundabout doesn't seem to have much traffic coming in!

@stevieinselby4 жыл бұрын
@@droe2570 No they can't ... further back, there are 2 lanes on the highway which are then joined by 2 lanes on the slip road. That means that anyone coming from the highway is now in lane 3 or 4. There is only *one* node where they can move one lane to the right, so they can only ever get across to lane 2, which doesn't allow them to take the exit.

Another option with TMPE is under "Policies". If you set the "Ban private vehicles on Bus Lanes" and set the "traffic restriction agression" to medium, you can use "Bus only roads" to add "back doors" and "shortcuts" for public transport AND city service vehicles, which can vastly improve services efficiency and coverage. You can also use those same bus roads instead of walking paths to join close roads, as they still give full pedestrian/bicycle access without any traffic (except for public transport/service) I also build high speed underground roads between industrial zones to a "back door" junction in commercial zones, then using TMPE ban private cars on those, so that only delivery trucks use them. There is also a 2 lane one way road on teh Workshop, that has one normal lane and one bus lane, which is good for running in front of cargo terminals, as traffic will stay in the "normal" lane until the last minute before entering the terminal and they will exit the bus lane as soon as they exit the terminal.

I think one of the things people don't talk about with traffic despawning turned on is that this doesn't "fix " your traffic for you. As far as I know when traffic despawns this is what happens. The vehicle tries to get to it's destination...hits traffic, then despawns....but the game still simulates that person. So it returns to where it started and tries again. this reeks havoc on city services because nothing actually gets to where it is supposed to because it keeps retrying. the first time I played the game my city just ground to a halt with dead bodies and trash EVERYWHERE with the vanilla despawning. Having despawning turned on to me makes the game easier because you can actually see where the issue is and fix it. Sometimes with despawning an area just looks busy but is moving. So you move on. In reality that area is counterproductive because only reason it is moving is because half of the vehicles are starting their journey over from the beginning.

its amazing, i have commented on a year old video with particularly bad traffic which surely was designed to be like that like 5 hours ago, not this drops. coincidences are amazing sometimes. But the point i made, doubt you saw it considering how old the video was, still stands especially in the context of some cities Some cities are madr for fixing. Whether or not you go and worsen the traffic is irrelevant, i even think its a great idea because it would increase the 'educational' (in light quotation marks) value, but only as long as you really help people with cities they care about. the video i commented on was a city where you can see that it was made in a very short amount of time. I mean, its not my decision, but i feel like its not in the spirit of the format to just pick the worst but the ones that people care about because those also tend to reflect what you should really do instead of you spending hours trying to fix an entire square of 6 lane 8 block grids. also, its sometimes much harder to fix a well designed city that still has bad traffic, because its not always obvious whats wrong. still, much love for the effort you put in Edit: i guess what im really trying to say is, sure, even intentionally bad cities must be fixed and watching it come together is great, but in these cases, the video could more often than not use an even broader point of view for fixing, things like general layout, hierarchy, that sort of stuff.
