➤Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.

@MephistoDerPudel
@MephistoDerPudel 4 жыл бұрын
@@evanparker9282 Bus stops at intersections make a lot of sense though. While they may impede traffic flow, they allow easy acces to multiple roads by public transport travellers and also easy transfers between crossing bus routes. Slowing traffic down (not causing jams, but rather make people go slow and wait sometimes) is also a common theme in traffic engineering to reduce speed and therefor the risk of crashes and pollution. This includes having Bus stops on the road instead of bus bay (which also has other reasons like safety for people at the bus stop and a wider gap between bus and bus stop at bus bays). There are a lot of things at play in real cities, that aren't simulated in the game and while there's a lot of ways to improve things in real life, Biffas methods of fixing traffic in CS would fail horribly if used in real life. Especially thanks to a thing called induced demand: fixing traffic creates more traffic.

This would be great however, it says a lot that so many rely on Traffic Manager to begin with. The game mechanics, AI and vanilla tools just aren't good enough in most cases to accomplish what should actually be happening. That's not to say the mod doesn't just make some things easier (because it truly does), but the game itself is just so horrible at traffic it's pretty much necessary.

@@GusVardas It's so easy to forget just how _old_ the basic programming for Skylines is. Even with patching, the base game is five years old now and was not designed with the sort of fidelity to real traffic patterns people expect these days. That said, the traffic simulation is _good enough_ as long as a creator lays their city out aware of its properties. I personally think a prospective Skylines 2 needs an overhaul of the water engine more than traffic.

@@Vespuchian Oh for sure. I'm aware it's a 5 year old game. That's why the mods are so important and in some cases absolutely necessary. What issues do you have with water? he disabled the realistic population mod because it was causing a lag; which is I think what caused the decreasing population. Nice demonstration on why classic DDIs don't work in Cities: Skylines. Timing the traffic lights properly is essential, but very hard to do. Luckily, you can get away with replacing the crossings in the middle with bridges and/or tunnels, and then they work even better. Just as efficient as a cloverleaf, with way smaller footprint. (But roundabouts are fine, too, I guess.)

I watch hours of these videos. They are so chill and educational, and make me feel like a civil engineer. Something I've noticed is that the cities never follow the basic principles in Biffa's videos. Their round abouts don't give way, their lane maths are non-existent. It's like they don't even watch the channel. I'd love to see episodes where the submitter has already tried those things and still has traffic. Then Biffa could solve the more fundamental road design issues, which to me is the fascinating puzzle that keeps me watching. Great channel!!

This reminds me of a city I am working on. A main highway through road down the center. I have despawing turned off with proper junctions but the highway still has serious traffic backup because of lane switching. Ive updated the traffic AI with the traffic manager mod. seemed to help a bit but still annoying. The AI is not driving all the way across the road its the single lane switching that causes build up just because of how busy the highway is, a lot of outside traffic just passing through. Also have one of those crazy cross lane junctions that you switched to a round-about. Personally i just kept fiddling with it until it worked by setting the lanes at different heights to reduce cross traffic. I like verity when looking at the city from high above. Thanks for your videos Biffa they are inspiring.
@Landrassa1
@Landrassa1 4 жыл бұрын
That crazy cross lane intersection is known as the Diverging Diamond Intersection and it is a real thing. Unfortunately all the things that make it decent in real life are either not applicable in Cities(trucks being much more aware of other traffic for example) or would take forever and a degree to set up (the traffic lights need to be timed perfectly). So yeah, a roundabout setup with traffic manager simply works better in the game. In real life it would probably have a much higher incident rating than the DDI in traffic situations like these.

My biggest hints for this game are NOT to use highways. Connect straight to a roundabout once and that's it. Have main roads as arteries and place NOTHING on them. Put all services local to each neighbourhood. No buses. No trains. Garbage collection spread out. Metro everywhere.. Lots of paths..85% traffic flow on cities up to 100K is easily done.

I can't say how much i like watch you fixing traffic, and i use some of your tips in my cities, but, to be honest, when you fix highway exits, there is a little thing you do, with lane "mathematics", usally you dedicate one lane to get in or out the highway and the other two lanes to get straight ahead, and the middle nodes set to go just straight, no switching lanes, so you make not possible to cars to exit in that specific point. I think with all the correction you do, those little mistakes are normal, too much mess around to deal with. Thanks for your videos, keep up with the good fixing!

You may need to change your Shift + Ctrl roundabout setups, as the version 11 auto-setups the lines on the lanes to keep motorists in that lane, so they can only switch in the roundabout junction. 1:54

With the network extensions, it's worth using Traffic Manager to ban everything but Buses and emergency vehicles (and maybe taxis and city vehicles) in just that lane as cars will sometimes still try to use that lane. Also, it's worth allowing the vehicles in the outer most lane to continue straight ahead so buses can stay in that lane and get back into the bus lane without needing to change lanes twice. I know this isn't good practice, but banning the traffic in the bus lane actually mitigates it.

That diamond interchange received kinda undeserved reviews... It just wasn't set up correctly :D These interchanges require timed traffic lights to function properly (the same as roundabouts require yield signs). You just use two steps for each direction, super easy to set up, super easy to control the flow (by adjusting the timing for each direction), and super effective (worked for myself).

From what I've been able to tell, if you select priority for highway traffic and for onramps, it appears that the manual lane selection isn't needed. As long as the lane mathematics is correct, it appears to work. Have you tried this?

We really need some highway/road assets that are all the same width. So 2 lane highway the same width of 3. Like how 3 is the same width as 4. Just have extra space either side or on one side like the asymmetrical roads. Another alternative is still use 3 lane highways, but make 1 lane unusable with hugo.

That's a Diverging Diamond Interchange. In real life they work fine, but this one had a couple of problems. First, in game they _require_ TM:PE to set up lane connections, timed traffic lights, and junction restrictions, which hadn't been done. Second, they need more space--the section in the middle, visible between the two overpasses, should be at least twice and preferably three or four times as long. In the middle section of a DDI you have through traffic, traffic turning off onto the freeway, and traffic turn off of the freeway all going through the same section. They need at least one node to change lanes in there. Also, on a really busy interchange you can have problems from weaving (where cars turning off of the freeway and cars turning onto the freeway have to change lanes past each other). In that case, you need to add an additional traffic light on each off ramp, synchronized with the main lights at each end of the interchange, so that traffic turning right off the freeway goes while traffic from the minor street is stopped. Of course all this is much more complicated to set up, so unless you're making an American or French themed city (I'm pretty sure nobody else uses DDIs) the roundabout is the easy solution.
@TheRedBanner
@TheRedBanner 4 жыл бұрын
@@marceelino Yeah, i could see that there was no setup. The DDI needs a ton of setup.
@TheRedBanner
@TheRedBanner 4 жыл бұрын
@@kenhagler7166 I understand the DDI very well. It is my go-to for under/overpasses. I'm also a fan of the RCUT, MUT, and the CFI. The roundabout is basically a crutch in C:S, and the way they are typically used does not provide for a realistic city. I like roundabouts (I'm American, and get excited every time a new one pops up), but I have never seen a roundabout highway exit as is typically used in these videos, and as I say this I am looking at Google images just to see, and almost all of the pics are C:S. From a KZbinr who is known for fixing traffic, I would just like to see a hell of a lot more than roundabouts made out of highway roads.

If they're updating the traffic manager mods, would be neat for them to add a Hugo edition that automatically mapped lanes to matching lanes on either side of a node.

I really like Realistic Population Mod, but I don't use much High Density so it tends to make my overall population lower. Throughout the course of this video as well as the disabling of the mod the City went from 160k to 93k... a 60% reduction in population and you might expect about 60% better traffic flow from that alone. Great to see a LHD city though!

The Diverging diamond interchange can be powerful but is rarely set up properly with traffic manager.. most critical is the lights allowing entry and exit from the counterflow need to be synchronized or it all just backs up into a horrible mess as seen in this video.

The diamond junction can work, but only with timed traffic lights so that cars don't get in each others way constantly. In vanilla they just don't work.
@epiccollision
@epiccollision 4 жыл бұрын
Also diverging diamonds are not bad, you just have to micro manage them, round about are dead simple yes, but if you put the work in a ddx can be perfect.
@BandanaDrummer95
@BandanaDrummer95 4 жыл бұрын
The really problematic interchange was an attempt at a diverging diamond interchange, which require synchronized stoplights to really work. It also has the issue that it has vehicles enter immediately before vehicles are removed, which has issues that are sort of mitigated if everything is set up correctly and flowing well. Not to mention that it requires splitting a two-way road into two one-way roads, which you've mentioned the U-turn issues with before, but it also has some of those types of things internally, which just screw with the game if you don't connect everything. Also, its main advantages in the real world are safety-related, which isn't a factor in Cities: Skylines. All in all, it's a difficult interchange to build in game that with vanilla can't be set up properly, doesn't even offer that good of advantages if done perfectly, and can easily cause problems if not done properly.
@BandanaDrummer95
@BandanaDrummer95 4 жыл бұрын
Also, with this being the second interchange that I have seen you replace completely because not only was it set up wrong to begin with but you couldn't make sense of it, I might be tempted just to make videos on how to build some of the more complicated interchanges. I'd have to make a setup for making videos, but it might work.
@sanbo20

There is one part where the lane mathematics is wrong, on the second diverging diamond thing that you adjusted, you can see it at 19:08 and in the before/after part at 23:42 the road heading from right to left is 4 lane highway, then one goes off and two go straight on, should have been one goes off and three go straight on.
